Congrats @VarunaTT! I'm so excited for you! When will your first day be in the new firm?

The same day layoff thing freaks me out so much. I was laid off like that once years ago and it really shook me. There's a lot of things I don't love about working for a giant corporation, but one thing I do like is the 60-90 days is notice when laying people off. At least you have a fighting chance of lining up a new job before you're unemployed.
November 28. I'm probably going to not be paid for the 24-25 b/c technically in my last 2 weeks I can't have any PTO or holiday time, but I'm not working on Thanksgiving or the day after.

I've known a handful of people who have worked at this new firm.  It has a stellar reputation and has a low turnover.  The main issue is that they are high load litigators and people get burnt out from the work load.  However, my first real litigation paralegal job was for one of their spin off firms, so I'm very well aware of what I'm getting myself into and don't mind, quite frankly.  In another 20 years I might hate myself, but right now I'm so excited to be in this new space.
Is this the same place you had a good contact at?  I can't remember if that was a friend or former coworker.

  • Congratulations @VarunaTT

Well my car was hit today when I was driving home from the doctor's. It was on an interstate. I'm not sure exactly what was happening - I was almost merged into a right hand lane (had my turn signal on and had looked - no cars). My car has a blind spot indicator and not warning. Anyway.  this car hit my right side. I wasn't in the furthest righthand lane so I had to pull across two more lanes before I could stop. In the mean time, the kid who was driving the car that hit me pulled around me and took off like a bat out of hell. My car is still drivable. The doors are just dented badly. What a pain! I have an appointment for an estimate tomorrow and have already filed an insurance claim.

On a good note, the physical therapy for my plantar fasciitis seems to be helping. The doctor said the inflammation has decreased by 1/3. He gave me another cortisone shot. I'm to continue with PT for another month and hopefully I'll be back to normal.

Yes.  Former Work BFF that turned into a good friend IRL (she was fired during Covid, it was drama).  We're both super excited to have our "work besties" team back.

Awesome!  What an extra nice bonus.

Work besties back again...but at a better company!

  • Ugh @ILoveBeachMusic. That’s the worst. I’m so sorry. I’m guessing since he did a hit and run he was squarely in the wrong.

My thoughts exactly. He was speeding and zig zagging down the interstate after he passed me so I'm guessing that's what he did when he hit me.

I see people do that crap on 465 all the time.  It drives me nuts!!  I'm sorry to hear you got hit.  I'm glad you're OK.  What a headache though, dealing with the insurance and repairs.
  • I was away yesterday so missed it but congrats @VarunaTT you deserve it and all the best on this new position!

  • What a drag @ILoveBeachMusic! Glad you’re okay
