Freezing Friday

Currently 20 degrees and about to get a lot lower. Stay warm to anyone in the same boat!

Feb 3rd is the most popular day of the year for birthdays (for just me, lol).   Today is stbxh's (kids made him cards, I helped them make a cake, and we have some small presents, they want to celebrate with him so hopefully we're not knocking on his door for an hour later today bc I told him they're coming even though he hasn't responded)...more importantly it's my sweetie niece's FIRST birthday (sis is like 65% sure she's done so we're all trying to soak in all the baby things)...coworker bday, a student's bday, five random FB friends, etc.  Happy belated birthday @mynameisnot I hope yesterday was celebratory!  Two of the kids each have a bday party for a friend this weekend and my niece's is Sunday evening.  So busy but fun weekend coming up.  Would I rather be under three fleece blankets on the couch?  Of course  :D  wishing everyone good weekends!

Re: Freezing Friday

  • It's -40 with windchill.

Nope. No conversion. -40 C is same as -40 F

I swear the jeep never fully thawed out.
  • Thanks, @ei34! I think today is Mr. Banana's birthday too. Happy birthday to your sweet niece!

It's my version of freezing here (not going above 40), so I'm pretty much working under a cozy blanket all day. Hopefully this weekend will also be a lot of sitting under a warm blanket. I really have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing.
  • It's currently 20 degrees F with a "feels like" temp of 5.    It's also DH's birthday!

He's sleeping in and taking the day off and once I'm out of my morning meetings I'll give him his present.

Tonight the kids are sleeping at the ILs and tomorrow Chiquita and I pack up for the yurt.  I'm SO GLAD it should warm up to the 20s tomorrow vs. the super chill of single digits that's forecasted for tonight.

Sunday Chiquita and I will head to my parents' after camping to wish my mom a happy birthday.  We'll come home and crash and then DH and I will figure out our response for the next Board of Ed meeting on Monday when we can speak to the current budget cuts.
  • So many birthday! My nephew also turned 1 yesterday.

Was 15 degrees and snowing when I got up this morning. And insanely windy! I almost got blown over. Low tonight is zero. Cannot wait to get home and put my comfy warm sweats on.

But I have a fun weekend planned! Nephew's birthday party tomorrow and then out to dinner with some family. Then brunch with friends Sunday morning.
  • Currently 1F outside - and of course today was the day when G decided he was too sleepy to wear a coat?? Fine, not a fight i'm having for the 10 feet between the car and the door. Guess who complained about being cold the whole 3 minute drive to school? Kids are weird man.

I am really resisting putting N in a real bed - he's totally ready for it but i'm terrified that he'll transition to not a good sleeper and he's SO content and good right now. Not something i can handle.

Weekend will be busy, I'm going to a workout class tonight, birthday party and maybe out to lunch (party is 10-11:30, not sure if they'll have lunch or not, but probably just snacks? idk). Sunday IL's are coming over.

We NEED to spend time getting our house in order. In the grand scheme of things it's not horrible, but both H and I hate clutter and mess and haven't had the time and bandwidth to deal with it but it's getting overwhelming and stressful to just be in the house and relax. I've made a list of a few concrete things i know we can finish over the weekend and i think that will help a lot!

Happy birthday to everyone this week! @ei34 sending good vibes for dealing with STBXH today.

It’s a balmy 2 here! Should get up to a high of 11, so don’t be jealous of us.  My friends birthday is today.  Yesterday it was for an old coworker of mine, AND my friend became an aunt yesterday too.  The 5th is exH’s. I find early February people are good people (minus the cheating part in exH), all of these people I know are animal lovers with BIG hearts.
    happy birthday to all!!

I’m just sitting here with my alarm ready to go at 11. I saw the fabfitfun spoiler choices, and as a annual member I get to select 7 of the 8 items. Customization opens up in one hr and 5 minutes lol.  Three items I really really want and this box I’m actually looking forward to.  Sometimes the email to customize is late and things sell out. One of my hopeful choices is a perfume, and I need another perfume like I need a hole in my head - but I’m trying not to get anymore cleansers and serums from them because I don’t need those either!
speaking of perfume my friend said she ordered a replica of La vie est belle and this is her first time buying perfume in like 20 years! I’m like whaaaaaat? Perfume and cosmetics are my downfalls.  She sent me a link to the replica page and most of them were all old school fragrances.  La vie est belle Isn’t too too old but the page had clinique happy, white diamonds, chanel no 5, etc.  It got me down the rabbit hole of 90’s scents. I LOVED gap dream & heaven.  Those were my scents.  I can’t remember if I had Gap Grass or just loved it and always wanted it. I also had ! .  Lol. Anyone remember their signature 90’s scent?

calvin klein sure made the list in that era:

I definitely picked the wrong week to spend in Chicago. I have only been out of the house a couple of times and have been living in heavy leggings and sweats. H is leaving Monday for Virginia for a week. He and his sister need to start going through their Dad's place to get ready for the market. He moved into nursing care a couple of weeks ago and turned 99 this past Monday. I'm pretty sure it will be warmer next week in Indy.

I don't wear perfume much anymore - depending on the scent I get headaches and sneeze. In the 90's I wore amazing grace most of the time. '80s was Giorgio.
  • I've always been allergic to most perfumes since so many rely on lilies and roses as base notes.  I love a good sandalwood or other more nature or cooking scents.  The Victoria's Secret vanilla/caramel lines were my jams in the late 90s, early 00s.  I probably haven't worn perfume since college though.

I'm probably coming into work tomorrow.  I had to take yesterday off; I had a monster headache.  I still do, but based on the frantic emails from yesterday when I took off, it wasn't worth it to still be out today.  I'm trying not to be too frustrated: this is my first new job in 6 years, this is a complicated place to work, this place is going through a lot of changes (and apparently my frustrations are being shared with the partners and getting good reception/solutions, but still), and the person I work for is busy AF, intense, and demanding.  Which I honestly don't mind except that I am good at my job and I'm not pushing out BS work.  Which the previous person in my position obviously did and he either grew to tolerate it, didn't realize it was happening, OR (and this is what another coworker and I think), his 2 paralegals were teaming up to help/cover for each other and barely scraping by.  So when paralegal 1 left, paralegal 2 only lasted another couple of months and I think it's b/c she didn't actually know how to do the job and was floundering and got out before she got caught.  He hasn't yelled or even really expressed frustration, but I've been in this field a long time and I can read it.  Every time I go through the list with him, he just sighs, says the prioritization is accurate, and to keep working.  I know in like 6 months, this will be so much better because I'll have the files worked up properly and be able to start moving them forward properly, but right now it's an exercise in patience.

AND someone pulled the damn fire alarm in my complex last night.  IDK who TF they've let into the building, but the last year has been a damn nightmare with some newer tenants.  The older tenants are getting pissed and I'm not the only one lodging complaints.  It was freaking cold at 2:00 am this morning and we all had to stand outside b/c the garage doors were locked down, which is where my car was and wait for the fire department to turn the alarms off.  A remodeled parking garage with nothing to absorb sound in it, is terrible to be in with all of those alarms going off.  Also, i will totally die in a real fire.  I'd had a panic attack, so fell asleep naked and didn't have my contacts in when it went off.  My PJs were on inside out and I'd grabbed my contacts and gone, but still, I'm a goner.

Going to a friend's house for dinner and fun tomorrow night, then spending time with mom on Sunday.  Trying to take it easy the rest of the time, except I must clean my bathroom, it's so gross.  I think this headache is sinus related.  I know the allergy shots are helping b/c of some things that would usually happen by now that haven't (missing days b/c of allergy reactions, swollen eyes, I can be around cats with no issues now), but my immune system is taking a hammering.  The ear infection was one time it didn't quite catch up and I think that's what's trying to gear up again.
  • It’s also cold AF here. -12 with the windchill and thankfully H did drop off this morning.

Things have been better this week. We talked a lot and he recognized he needs to do a lot of internal work. So that’s positive.

Heading to my sisters tonight for dinner for my dad’s birthdays. M is excited to see my mom, he misses seeing his “GaGa”s everyday.
It weird when kids go from seeing someone daily to rarely.

My mum and SFIL saw BK all last year and in summer on alternating days.
    BK is use to new routine but my mum and SFIL are like "wtf this is weird" lol especially since we couldn't see my mum for most of October due to sickness, then couldn't see SFIL and MIL from boxing day until recently because covid {they still tested positive for so long after omg}
  • It is cold.  My rabbits and chickens are .... well, I expected them to be angrier, but I guess the heaters are doing their jobs.  Still, I'm going to cave and bring at least one of them in tonight.  It's too darn cold!
Work was a nightmare, and my fun DnD game has been cancelled.  But tomorrow I'm going to the movies with my mom to see A Man Called Otto, and will probably have an easy weekend.
