Wedding Woes

Monday

How was everyone's weekend?  Mine was nice, good mix of getting a lot done with some fun moments.
Enjoyed Rihanna and some of the commercials last night, but went to bed around 9:15, can't bring myself to care about sports anymore if it's not my team.
Wishing everyone a good week!

Had a fun weekend! Traffic was ridiculous Friday for both commutes so as soon as I got home Friday, I was in my sweats on the couch.

Saturday was my nephew's 1st birthday party!! We had so much fun. My nephew is adorable. My brother and SIL put out such a great spread. I got to see and catch up with friends I hadn't seen in a while. Just an all around great day. After that N and I had our own date night - put our phones away, cooked dinner together and listened to music.

Yesterday I had a nice lazy morning reading and drinking tea. Did some laundry, cleaned the house. For the game I made bacon wrapped jalapeno poppers and sausage balls. Thought the game was great. Loved a lot of the commercials and cried during the Farmer's Dog one. Thought Rhianna was so good. And then went to bed as soon as the game was over. Also didn't win anything in either of the two pools I bought in to, which is the same every year..ha.
  • I also loved Rihanna and loved her starting with “B!tch Better Have my Money”. And yay for her being the only pregnant Super Bowl performer ever. Love it.

Finally starting to feel better from the strep throat but that’s awful and I hate it.
  • Weekend was busy!

Saturday we had Pinewood Derby for both kids.  The Cub Scout part started at 9 AM with Chiquito placing 2nd in his Den and DH made a car as a parent and his came in 2nd in the parent competition.  Early afternoon started the Girl Scout Powder Puff Derby for Chiquita's age group and she placed 1st in that group out of 33 heats!  They did a final round of the top 6 cars and she placed 3rd overall!  I'm super proud.

Saturday night I did more laundry and made dinner and we started to watch Tar.  Sunday was church and then DH and I divided grocery shopping duties between the supermarket and Costco and then I went to task making pretzel dough and browned grown meat for nachos later.  We stayed in to watch the game and had pretzels and loaded nachos and the kids got to stay up until the end of the halftime show.    While it wasn't my favorite halftime show I thought she did a great job.

    Now back to the grind!
  • Jaw and gums hurt from dentist appt.
Good news - not root canal & last of bad issues. Now all are minimal ones
Bad news - it was more invasive as the cavity was wide vs deep. They didn't anticipate that so it put everything behind. Whoops!

M picked up groceries and got cranky because I over did the freezer - so we're gonna have ice issues.

M & BK went to M's nanny's place while I slept and watched Kalidescope lol

Sunday we all slept in lol I think BK is heading into a growth spurt and I'm hoping it's legs. She's half 3T half 4T pants.
If it's leggings, she can fit into 4T - otherwise it's 3T lol

I did pull some tops that are getting a tad short in torso. Her upper body grows faster.

We didn't do a whole lot tbh.  BK & I made brownies. We cleaned - she swept and I vacuumed. She put away her toys while I vacuumed around. She swept spots I missed that had toys.

"I've got really good listening ears today mama!"
    Lol yes child. <3
  • We enjoyed our weekend getaway in Biloxi, even though the weather didn't work with us.  It was sunny on the last day and they allow you to use the pool, even after you've checked out.  I was looking forward to that but, what I didn't know is they keep the pool closed until the end of March.  Meh.  But I won $300 playing video poker, so at least that more than paid for the one hotel night that wasn't free.

We got back home Sun. afternoon.  We weren't that invested in this year's Superbowl and didn't do anything special for it.  But we watched it and it was a good game.  I liked a lot of the commercials.  The Bud Light one with the couple dancing to hold music was cute.  I saw Etrader is going back to the "baby" theme that they had about 20 years ago.
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I do not care for American football, but MIL and SIL are into it, so we went over to their place and watched until the fourth quarter.  Then we went home, and I still don't know who won.  But it was nice.
I've decided today to try intermittent fasting.  I don't usually do diets, but back in the day I used to fast every once in a while (mostly if I had eaten a lot of junk food and felt gross the next day).  My cousin did it and has a similar body type to me - sort of all of us cousins on my dad's side do.  I just need to be more disciplined in my snacking, and this is supposed to be really good for cutting down on that.
We started watching Rings Of Power over the weekend.  I hope it is good, but I have heard otherwise.

  • Glad everyone had great weekends.  I was at a superbowl party but no one really watched it. Saw some commercials the next day.  Rhianna was “meh” for all of us, but then we heard why so that kinda changed my opinion.
Saturday I went to see a production “into the woods”.  The meetup group chose seats in the back… I’m a seat snob so got something up close (it was literally $15 more), so I sat alone but you shouldn’t talk throughout it anyway. We’re going to get a subscription though, and those are priced better.
I made an appt for my “money pieces” because I wanted them done sooner rather than later.  It’s very very very subtle.  I have to gradually go light, so while I don’t hate it, I was imagining the highlights lighter.  But I like this person, it’s close, and she’s starting the process so I’ll continue with her.

  • We had a pretty chill weekend. I got to read a lot. We watched the first half of the game yesterday, but went to bed after Rihanna. The Farmer's Dog one made me cry too, but that's the only commercial I saw that was even memorable. I didn't really think there were any really funny ones, at least in the first half. I feel like so many commercials were just like "oh, let's put a celebrity in it" instead of actually doing good content. Oh well.

Tonight I'm going to Galentine's dinner with a couple of girlfriends at Sugar Factory. I just looked at the menu and I already don't get it. But mostly I'm just kind of over this group of friends, so I'm bah humbug or whatever right now.
  • I ordered a cold coffee.
    My office is hot.
My stupid left eye keeps watering

And my dentist office texted me to see how my jaw is. In case you're wondering how my appt Saturday went.
  • I had a good weekend.  Went out to dinner with friends on Friday night to celebrate a birthday.  Stayed home on Saturday and puttered around my house just cleaning and doing stuff.  Sunday I went to see my mother and then ended up going to a friend's house for the Super Bowl.  I also felt most of the commercials were very meh and I thought the half time show was meh too.  I loved everything around Rihanna, but I just felt like her energy was super low and I just didn't find her entertaining at all.  Yeah, yeah, I know she's pregnant now and wasn't when she agreed, but she definitely had seconds where she threw the attitude and felt it.  It was just seconds though and the rest of the time, she felt so unengaged to me.

Kicking off the week decently.  I wish I could figure out why I can wake up and pull myself out of bed at 5 am with no issues on the weekend days, but the week days I'm dragging to get out at 7 am.  I have also had some serious night sweats again and I have no idea why, but I hate, Hate, HATE it.
  • Weekend was ok. Went to friends house for impromptu dinner on Friday night. Saturday was the memorial service for my friend from church. I helped set up for the luncheon on Friday. Yesterday I went to church and watched Downton Abbey (I'm rewatching the entire series). Took puppy for a walk both yesterday and Saturday since the weather was so good. H got home mid afternoon yesterday. He watched the Super Bowl, I did not - watched more Downton Abbey.

Rihanna was OK. I was really looking forward to it and was very disappointed. Choreography was ambitious and the dancers did a phenomenal job.  Being a Marvel movie geek, I was hoping Tom Holland might pull off a cameo from his Lip Sync Battle days.  Not sure why she gets a pass because she’s pregnant.  Thousands of women not only work while pregnant, but up until their due date.

But thousands of women don't sing and dance in front of millions for a living, let alone on a flying platform. Not nearly as difficult to sit at my computer desk with a person inside of me...
  • I genuinely thought she slayed. The choreography perfectly made her the center of attention and she gave Rhianna not a three ring circus. Just a fabulous woman doing her thing.

Stuck in the box: Yeah - considering that she was doing some decent dance moves on a floating platform while pregnant I wouldn't compare it to most especially when she looks to be several months along.  I liked her performance but I really enjoyed a lot of the prior performances that were more collaborative efforts.  J Lo/Shakira's from a few years ago I liked more but it doesn't mean that I thought Rihanna's was bad.

    Saaame!
  • Also- this is Rihanna’s style, she’s never been an over-the-top dancing and what not. This is how she’s always performed. Plus doing it pregnant is not something any other performer has ever done so yah I think she gets some credit here.

I'll be honest that I haven't seen her perform - my experience was always radio play.

I think it was really visually interesting and the criticisms of "she can't sing" or bad dancing (not to anyone on this thread but I've seen posted) are unwarranted.

I'm just hoping for bigger like last year or even 20 years ago when it was Aerosmith and Britney.   I fully admit that this is all personal preference.

Ooh yeah that *nsync / nelly / britney / aerosmith was one of my faves.  Last year's was great too.  I like a group.  But Rihanna sounded good...I haven't seen her perform either, I'm a radio fan, so had nothing to compare it to.  My only criticism was I would've liked a full song, instead of so many short clips, but I know that that's something all SB Halftime performers do bc they have such a short amount of time and want to get in as many hits as possible.

Lmao at the "we all work while pregnant" comment from above (which I know wasn't you banana).  Umm a) boo on the anti-woman vibe from women and b) I've never performed up in the air in front of millions while pregnant.  Or not pregnant.
  • I wasn't mesmerized by the performance, but I did think it was pretty striking. I LOVED the absolute confidence of not bringing in any other "guests" besides the baby.

I *loved* that she teased a special guest and it was the baby. Genius.

We were hoping for that too!  It would have been amazing!

  • I think Rihanna was fantastic and I don't understand the criticism she's receiving.

She performed similar to how she's been for her whole career. How is she getting a pass because she's pregnant? She was suspended on a high ass platform and performed 12 freaking songs. And IMO it's a freaking boss move to not bring out any guests.
  • I honestly thought she was just so low energy.  Everything around her was great, the sound was great, the outfit was great, the choreography she did do was great (and her dancers KILLED it), but there were just a few seconds of that Rihanna energy (a runway strut, the Fenty powder pallet) and the rest felt so disengaged, like she barely cared she was there.  I was rewatching one of her videos last night and was like, THAT, her "it" factor, was what I was wanting and it just wasn't there for me.  I'm a pretty big fan and I was disappointed.

Maybe that's what I'm thinking?  I come watching from a place where I've never seen her perform before but I wanted....more?  I like watching a halftime show that makes me break a sweat while I dance and this one had me swaying in my seat but not embarrassing my children.

A lot of the big events, such as the Super Bowl, or even some of the NYE productions,  almost have to include lip synching.  I expect that.  She missed a lot of the lyrics, and I felt as you stated, that she really didn't even care.

^^^EXACTLY!!  I was like, Woman, we all know you're lipsyncing, that's fine, but...could you ACTUALLY LIPSYNC?  If it made her that mad to not say B!tch (Betta' Have My Money), why not have Shut Up and Drive or Please Don't Stop the Music or any of the other massive hits she had.  (this is a huge assumption on my part).

There's been quite a few in the past few years that were single performers with no special guests.  Gaga was by herself (and was waaaaaay better IMHO) and I think Beyonce was mostly alone (I'm pretty sure Destiny's Child came out for a song).  Madonna was also a solo headliner, but did have special guests who came out for specific songs.
