Wedding Woes

Monday

We are enjoying some spring weather here and it's lovely.  Yesterday one of my oldest and dearest friend and I went to see a show, Hedda Gabler, and then sat outside on my back deck enjoying some weed and conversation because of how nice it was.  The show was not good, but I think it was the translation.  It was a new translation and I thought it was terrible.  The rest of the time, I stayed home and just relaxed, played some video games, reading, cooking, etc.  I think it was good and I feel much better this week than last.

Oh, the Australian GP was chaotic as all get out.  There were 3 restarts, 3 (4?) red flags, and only 11/12 cars came across the finish line?  I'm not totally sure b/c I started it late, not realizing it was 3 hours (usually it's barely 2 hours).  There was one car that was pulled over in the final lap, but I didn't know if they crossed the finish line or not (it was Hulkenberg).  The fantasy team took a hit, but I'm happy to have Hamilton come home with 2nd.

Re: Monday

  • The weather this weekend was crazy. Warm on Saturday but rained most of the day. And the mall lost power while we were there. Yesterday was sunny but super windy and cold.

But I got a lot accomplished this weekend. Finally got my taxes done. Found a dress for my work party. Got my nails done at a new place, that I loved. Cleaned, did laundry and ran a million other errands.

Weekend was busy between helping my dad and sister, but nice to see family.  My dad's recovery is where it should be.  Rain stopped long enough on Saturday to get in the girls' softball game which was fun, and I also squeezed in some grading at night.  A shock was stbxh said he'd see the kids on Sunday, they've missed him so I was okay with moving a couple things around to bring them to him for a few hours.

I'm on a countdown, not just to Easter but we go on spring break starting Thursday, so it's a needed short week over here.

Eeeek! Cutie patootie @charlotte989875, don’t wake him up! LOL
i owe for taxes this year so I’m paying them on payday, the 14th.  No rush on those lol!

I noticed I’ve lacked energy SO much lately and read up that metformin may drain vitamin B12 from someone. So I got those B12 (plus other vitamin B’s) patches since I don’t really want to take another supplement in pill form.  I started them Friday and there actually was some ooomfph to my weekend routine and my mood is slightly better.  I have a feeling I really was lacking B12.
I am also adding yerba mate to my smoothies and loaded teas.  I heard that acts like a natural appetite suppressant so it’s worth a shot.

  • I'm sooo... sleepy today.  I stayed up way too late last night to watch Succession and then catch John Oliver.

Weekend was alright. We were, thankfully, not impacted by the storms on Friday other than some branches being down in our yard.   DH and DefConn will need to take the wheelbarrow around to collect them before the first mow of the year.

Before the weather hit, a house in the neighborhood behind us burned down.  It was a 4 or 5 alarm fire.  The family wasn't home at the time, so there were no injuries. But still, so devastating.

Saturday was pretty low-key.  Sunday, we smoked a pork shoulder.

    SSDD otherwise.
  • Anyone watch the CMT awards? I just started watching Bunnie & Jellyroll and love them and love that he won.  I agreed with a lot of the winners but the performances I saw clips of… not country.
do we need Gwen everywhere? She’s a has been. I said what I said.

That's so terrible! Someone I went to HS with also had their house burn down this past Friday. Thankfully no one was home, and their pets got out safely too. But they lost everything.

He woke up when we got home and asked if we could go for ice cream!
  • I flaked running errands on Friday, so we did a big Costco run on Sunday.  We had great weather this weekend, but it's chilly today.  Very annoying!  Because we only get about 6 weeks of Spring before it starts turning uncomfortably hot.  This is supposed to be the early-middle of that.  Every day has been a crap shoot of will it be an "a/c, heater, or nothing" day, lol.

Awesome surprise in the mail on Saturday.  I FINALLY got my double-paid property taxes back in the mail from the property I closed on over two months ago.  I'd been procrastinating on calling or visiting City Hall about it because I assumed it would be an exercise in complete futility and just anger and frustrate me more.  But yeah!  I can cross that off my to-do list now.  It would have been nice if the title company had e-mailed me a heads up they were mailing me a check or given me the option to pick it up.  Especially because they knew very well I was annoyed about the situation and had begged them to hold the original check, which they refused to do.  I would have had this check 6 weeks ago if they hadn't been such incompetent AHs (not just about the property taxes).

Let's see.  Two months after closing (smh) on two properties and what unfinished business do I still have left.  My pro-rated return of my flood insurance and I think I was charged too much for "future interest" on both of those properties.  I already called my lender about that last one but I was "too soon".  I need to call them again on this.

I'm usually grumpy and tired on Mondays.  Still true for the latter part.  But had such joy when I looked at the calendar this morning.  Good Friday is a holiday at my work.  I didn't realize that was already THIS week!  I was thinking it was still a couple weeks away.  Yeah!  Short week!  Plus my normal half-day Friday gets moved to Thursday.

I've always been puzzled they chose Good Friday to be a holiday and not Memorial Day.  After all, MD is a Federal holiday and GF is not.  It doesn't matter to me.  Just think it's weird.  Especially for people with SOs who get MD off, but not GF.

  • Nice weather out this weekend but I was stuck inside so I didn't get to really enjoy it.

Lots and lots of work on top of a messed up sleep cycle.

I can't wait for the end of tax season.
  • Apparently our saga with the old contractor will never end. We sent him the termination and demand letter Friday for failing to finish the work. He said he didn’t get it yet and that he was going to file a police report for the tools that he left at our house that he hasn’t been to in months. The tools are still here because he never same to get them?!!! Thankfully our lawyer emailed him the letter today and is handling it all but this is infuriating.
  • Hey dude, come get your tools.  Show your face.  We want you to.
    🙄

  • @charlotte989875 that's so crazy! As if you're holding his tools hostage. Come get them homie!

How else would he GET them??   Dude, your tools are here because you left AND NEVER CAME BACK.

I would hope that any judge would find that laughable and the reason that he doesn't have his stuff from the unfinished worksite is also why there's litigation pending against him.  It also bodes poorly for him that he's both not completing contracted work and so sloppy that he is leaving his own property in possession with other people.
  • Mostly SS DD here.

Saturday cookie pick up was WET.  I had to change my pants when I got home despite wearing a rain coat and wellies because the water ran down the back of my coat and into my jeans. We did fine and I'm glad the EZ Up was loaned.

Yesterday my MIL's cousin invited us over for a Palm Sunday meal and whoa is she generous.  My kids were there in addition to her own grandkids and they left with a ton of candy and Easter related souvenirs.  I owe her a huge TY.    DH said, "I want to say, "See!  This is what a non-stingy grandmother is like," but obviously that won't do much.  I'll just speak really highly of her to MIL.

Hmmm.  I'm wondering if the lawyer is including something about abandoned property.  I'd guess some kind of certified notice letter has to be sent first.  But might as well get that rolling so you all don't get stuck having to store his tools indefinitely.  So that if he doesn't pick them up by X date, you can legally sell or dispose of them.

Some people really suck and are so ridiculous.

He abandoned the job and the tools and then says he's going to file a police report?  Dude, please do.

Friday we had thunderstorms which turned into snow overnight.  By Saturday, we had ~5" of heavy wet stuff.  We stayed home and vegged all day.  Snow had melted off the streets by Sunday.  We did recliner church and then I needed to run some errands.  DH wasn't feeling great so he was going to nap while I was gone.  I was gone about 2 hours and at my last stop across town when I got a text that he was on the floor.  He can't get up on his own, so I speed home.  Have to call the FD for a lift assist.  I was glad he wasn't hurt but furious at him for getting up and trying to get a pop out of the front closet when I wasn't home.  PLUS he didn't have his phone with him, so had to scoot on his butt across the kitchen and living room back to where his phone was. He had strict orders not to try to get up without waking me up in the night.  So I slept like crap and he didn't need to get up.

Being a caretaker is really hard.  Especially, when we don't have any answers on what is going on with him.  Ugh.

  • Pretty good weekend here! We got some storms early Saturday, but it was otherwise pretty nice out, so we spent as much time outside as we could. I had to work a little, but not too bad. Storms are back today and we've already lost and regained power, so work is a hassle right now. We also have a pretty short spring, and I feel like it's rained more than it hasn't so far and we've barely gotten to enjoy it.
  • Speaking of abandoned property, though thankfully without police or ill will involved.  Last week, I saw I had missed a call from a former tenant.  She didn't leave a message or send a text, so I didn't reply back.  The only thing I could think of that she might want is the name of the tow company that took her abandoned car out of our driveway and I didn't know that info.  But my H mentioned later that night he had talked to her.  Yep.  That was what she wanted

We gave them PLENTY of chances and notices to come get the car after they moved out.  But, after three weeks, the home was ready to be rented again.  The car was still in the driveway so we had it towed.

The car was towed over a month ago.  She contacted us because she had personal items in the car that she really needed and wanted the name of the company who had towed it.  Maybe it was stuff she forgot about until last week but, dang.  You know your car is going to be towed.  Take an hour out of your day before that happens to come see if there is any stuff in it that you want.

I don't get people.  They moved because they didn't have January's rent.  I know they were hard up for money.  I told her if they didn't want the car anymore, junkyards will tow it away and give her some cash for it.  It's super easy to do this (assuming they have proof of ownership).  But if she leaves it for us to tow away, it's just the opposite.  She'll need to pay the towing company the tow fee and daily storage charges to get the car back or forfeit ownership.  Yet, she still went for option B.  It's like stepping over $300 lying on the ground because it's not $1,000.  But I can only give good advice.  I can't force people to take it.

A secret from the world of landlording is how many abandoned vehicles will enter your life and become your problem, lol.  This is vehicle number 4.  Plus two derelict boats on trailers.  One offroad vehicle that appeared in good condition, dude bought that instead of paying his rent.  He did finally move his vehicle, boat/trailer, and ATV once I threatened to have them all towed.  The other cars and derelict boat belonged to others, over the years.

I had actually looked into if I could claim ownership of the ATV or vehicle since they were left on my property after the sheriff's visit for the eviction.  The vehicle was a total no-go, which I expected.  Interestingly, I could have claimed ownership of the ATV.  But it had a registration, just a different type from a car, so would have been a lot of paperwork and hassle to get ownership.  Especially if title had been skipped multiple times (I'm sure it had) and would have taken a minimum of 6-8 weeks.  I wouldn't have done all that because I didn't have anywhere to tow it to, so I'm glad he finally retrieved it.

In the letter the lawyer told the contractor to contact them directly to do a hand off the materials the contractor had already paid for with our money and pick up his tools so like he clearly has a way to pick them up. Or like he could have come and got them anytime.

    It’s just so absurd.

The lawyer is great; she said there’s no charges police could even do anything about. He could have made arrangements to pick them up and he hasn’t done so. It sounded like she was laughing while she wrote that because it’s so ridiculous.

I'm sorry to hear the doctors still don't know what is wrong.  I hope it gets figured out soon and isn't something serious.

There are devices that can be bought to help lift a person up from the ground, if they aren't able to safely get up themselves.  My neighbor (C) and I looked into it a bit for our elderly neighbor who kept having issues like that.  We never got around to talking to her about it and then she sold her house to move into assisted living.  If I'm remembering correctly, there were a couple affordable options under $100.
