Whiny Wednesday

The one thing I don't like about this office is they basically try to find the most inefficient, most-steps-taken way to do some of the most simple things.  Anyway, that means I forgot to put WFH on the calendar today, so I'm in the office and I'm grumpy about it.

Last night was a great success.  It was just really lovely to sit around a great dinner and chat with friends.  The movie was wonderful, of course.  It'd been a long time since I had seen it, so it was nice to see the movie of Hedwig and the Angry Inch so close to seeing the stage version again.  I also really loved sharing it with my friend.  If he can't host next week, I'll host again and this time, Titus, another one of my favorite movies.  We've also talk about doing some of the National Theatre movies, but those are a bit longer and I think I'll have to schedule differently.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Going to go see Reality Bites at the indie theatre tonight with another friend that I'm making efforts to hang out with more.  Another from college friend too.  Sometimes I'm kind of amazed at the friend network I've put together for myself.  I still want to leave this small city once my mother passes, but finally getting the job I've coveted for years, my apartment, and my network...it's harder to walk away.

Re: Whiny Wednesday

  • I’m whiny today because I’m in the waiting room and the dentist and I’m cranky at people who don’t say please when they’re demanding me to do something for them.

But the weather is beautiful here so I’m trying not to be too too whiny.
  • @VarunaTT that sounds like a fun night! And I love Reality Bites. Such a good movie.

It's so nice out today - actually going up to 80 which is just weird for this time of year. But I'll happily take it. Our new roof is getting started today and I'm honestly happy I'm not home for it..lol.

I admire the way you've built such a network for yourself @VarunaTT, that's not always easy to do.  Blegghh good luck at the dentist @charlotte989875

I'll throw in my whiny-ness.  DS has had a rash since Thursday- not really bothering him but it is traveling around his body.  Saw the ped this morning who prescribed a topical cream in addition to claritin or zyrtec once a day for the next five days.  Sent it to our pharmacy.  We arrived and were told it'd be ready in 10-15 minutes.  Fair.  It was a quick ride from the pediatrician's office to CVS.  Wandered the aisles, $17 accidental spending and 15 minutes later, got back on the pharmacy line.  "We're so sorry, we're backed up, it'll be 15 more minutes but then we promise it'll be ready." Okaaayyy..definitely would've just went home if I'd known at the start it'd be a half hour and come back, but left the store and killed time in the little shopping center (and spent $20 more as our pharmacy is nestled between a bread bakery and a Starbucks and the kids were getting ornery by now).  Gave them 20 minutes, all to be told the ointment isn't in stock in the store, I can check other pharmacies in the area or DS can start the ointment in two days when it should arrive at their store.  "Is it okay if he starts it two days from now?"  "I think so"  "Can you recommend an OTC ointment I could buy in the meantime?"  "It'd be better if you called his doctor, I don't know."  Okay, great, thanks for nothing!  If I didn't want to be compartmentalized into that white suburban mom category I would've asked to speak to a manager.  I did call the ped who sent the script to another pharmacy and recommended an OTC in the meantime.  But ugh thumbs down.

^that aside, it's another pretty spring day here.  Going to the Mario movie later which should be fun.  I'm not a huge video game person but as kids we wore our parents down and they finally bought the four of us a gameboy to share...I loved that super mario game.  And although stbxh is definitely the gaming parent, I have been known to occasionally crush my kids in Super Mario Party  :D so feeling excited for the movie
  • I'm whiny bc my coworker is encroaching on a project and and sent me an email this morning with some frankly insulting "don't forget to do..." and asked me to make sure to send the final product to him for review before sending to our boss. Um, what? F U dude. It's likely that our boss asked him to review first, but she didn't tell us that, and he didn't tell me "X asked me to review quickly" or anything. Just issuing directions. I also have a feeling they are promoting him to manage our team and just not telling anyone about it yet. They've done that before in related departments. It's ridiculous.
  • @VarunaTT, your at-home dinner and movie with friends sounds fun!  I'm glad you all are making it a weekly thing.

My buyer cancelled the contract :(.  Oh well.  My realtor and I decided to take the property off the market.  I'll continue to self-manage it, until we move in the Fall (hopefully).  Then I'll hire my realtor to be my property manager.  She and her H also have a PM company.  I'm hoping market conditions are better sometime next year to sell it.  Like lower interest rates, property appreciation, and/or better and cheaper insurance options for this area.

I'm trying to look on the bright side.  For now, at least I still cash flow pretty well on it.  Which will also make my loan application look stronger for when we buy our house in the Ocala area.  If my work decides they will not let me WFH once I move, I'll need to show as much income as I can from other sources so I can keep the down payment requirement lower.

We are also going to look at fixing a couple of the bigger issues in anticipation of selling next year.  If we can replace the rest of the underground plumbing for less than $7K, we'll probably do that.  We are also going to have an electrician look at the cloth wiring they found.  That might be a minor issue to fix.  At least I hope so!  It just depends on how much there is.

My H and I have been mulling over some ideas that I'm getting more excited about.  I think for our personal home, we are leaning towards a more rural "nature area" about 25 minutes from Ocala with at least a .5 acre lot.  We probably don't want to go bigger than 2 acres.  And then put a couple tiny homes or yurts on it that we will do short-term rentals on.  Definitely need to figure out the logistics for providing electricity and plumbing.  That ramps up the cost quite a bit, but the homes themselves are a bargain compared to the profit potential.  It won't appeal to the snowbirds and horse people who are looking for multi-month lodging.  Which is a big reason we chose Ocala.  But we're looking at buying a normal house next year for those folks.

It's been beautiful here this week - like summer temps! Next week it's back to typical spring weather, but it's been nice to open windows and get fresh air.

BK and my allergies have been ridiculous. We're almost out of reactin, so we may have to try Claritin kids - I'm personally not a fan, but hopefully it works just as well even for a few days.
BK is also sleeping over at my mum's place this weekend, so M & I are going to get a few things done and go for dinner. I'm hoping minimum M can get BK's other drawer done and I wanna start filling cracks in the upper bathroom to paint soon.

If anyone is curious about BK's haircut :)

Katie on Instagram: “First in salon haircut 🥰 She did so well!”

Even though there was a company merger, part of old company thing was that all the employees could move their years of service over.
So I hit my 10 year and new company sends a link saying "you hit a milestone, pick a prize"

    Folx this stuff is AMAZING
I opted for a nespresso machine. It's the 818 nespresso machine with milk frother.
I told M that part of my mothers day gift could be nespresso pods lmao
I was asking for an iced cofee maker but my coworker has a nespresso machine and told me how she does iced coffee with it. :)
    Congrats!

I'm sorry.  But if your workplace doesn't give you a silver-plated business card holder with THEIR initials on it, you are being shortchanged!

Of course, I'm kidding.  That was my 10-year anniversary gift last year.  The cherry on top is they don't even issue me business cards for the role I have, lol.

I remember @CharmedPam had a catalog also with nice gifts to choose from.  That's the way it should be (grump, grump).

I recently got a sweater with company name, and I'm a bit spicy about that because it's a new company - but it has thumb holes, so it's acceptable ;)

Also wtf get yourself some business cards and expense it ;)
    Tbh this is new. At old company, we'd get a gift card to a place of our choosing but it's a vastly different company {small company like a mom 'n pop shop vs corporate/national company lol}
  • My whine is that training for a whole new work type has been delayed and changed what seems like 100 times, and cancellations have come at the literal last minute and this is after I've asked people to reschedule.  Also, trying to get information on anything has been like pulling teeth.  It's been so frustrating.

The weather has been fantastic this week.  So at least there's that.

I could go for a week at the beach, but I'd settle for a nap. LOL

  • I keep meaning to go out and enjoy this weather…. Oops. I like inside. Inside is nice. Congratulations @MissKittyDanger, nice gift! Yeah it was me who had some good ones - but if you wait to long they get grabbed up. I have a nice set of earrings though. And what a cute pic of BK! Those glasses are everything!! Glad your night turned out so well @VarunaTT I had internet issues Monday and most of yesterday and comcast had to come out. Found out there was a “leak” in the wiring so not my fault! I bought a new modem JIC they’d tell me mine was ancient. Because it is. I’m sure Laura Ingalls used it on her homefront. Anyway, I was today years old when I found out there was a difference between a modem and router. The nice comcast guy put my router back in play and it still works after his fix! And Best Buy was super good about returning the modem opened without a restock fee - so phew. I’ll need a new router soon, I know, but for now this works. And when it’s time I’ll do my research and get a modem/router. I didn’t know! I just saw “cable modem, compatible with Comcast” so I bought it. ExH did all that stuff for me.

  • Yesterday (Tuesday) was beautiful. I had an appointment for eyebrows but afterwards I spent the afternoon on the porch reading. I'm paying for it now though because my allergies have gone crazy. My eyes won't stop itching and I can't stop sneezing. I'm on two oral medicines, a nasal  spray and eye drops! This won't last long though so I'll just power through. It really doesn't help me want to go workout though.. I also spent sometime working in the yard - cut back roses and some other plants. H has spent most of the last two days doing yard stuff that desperately needed doing. He loves being outside doing that kind of stuff. We have another day of unseasonably warm weather then the cooler temps return. I'm enjoying it while I can!
  • Reading. I used to be a reader in my 20’s but now, I can’t find a story I like or focus on anything in the written word. I’m toying with getting back to it.  I had a meet-up the other day and they were discussing a book club they started and all the girls talked about the books they were reading.
I didn’t know people still did! I thought it was a lost hobby!

I am not on Tiktok anymore, but there is a huge following on BookTok that has all sorts of genres.

I used to be a voracious reader, ie pre-Internet.  But I just can't get hooked into a story anymore.  I like reading for 15-30 minutes and then my mind starts wandering and I can't focus anymore.

I also get really sleepy when I read books, nowadays, so that's doesn't help either.  It's weird.  I'll be totally alert.  Not tired at all.  But I start to read a book and my eyelids start getting heavy and I feel tired.

I think the Internet has destroyed my attention span.

  • I'm a big reader. I belong to two book clubs - one for over 20 years. I usually read while I am working out on the elliptical. I can also read in the car but know not everyone can. I do fall asleep more easily now than when I was younger if I read on a couch or in a chair.

I read on my phone while running!

I’m also a big reader; I stopped reading for fun in grad school and my academic career but now I read all the time! I love the Libby app because it makes borrowing booms and reading on my phone super easy.
  • I'm a big reader as well and generally prefer it to TV! I average about a book a week :) I read before bed usually for 20-60 minutes.
