Fri-yay

How's everyone?
Having a quiet professional day at work, the students are off for Eid.  (Are there lots of celebrations by you @missJeanLouise?)
Nice weekend planned, going to an early morning members morning at the zoo for Earth Day, going to a Cherry Blossom party at my parents', softball game, and hoping stbxh will see the kids at some point.  Hoping everyone else has some good things planned too.

Re: Fri-yay

  • So happy it's finally Friday! My rash finally seems to be gone, thank god.
Not much planned for today and tomorrow, but Sunday I'm going to brunch with my SIL and a few friends. Can't wait!

    Finally Friday!
What happens at a cherry blossom party, @ei34?
Glad your rash is gone @climbingsingle

I’m hoping to get a walk in at lunch and maybe see Renfield later tonight. Tomorrow is Greese with my meetup and Sunday I head out to my parents. Overall, not a hugely busy weekend.  I can’t remember if there’s a lunch before the matinee show or a dinner after but I would prefer a dinner after since I’m already out.  Lunch before it means I got to get my butt in gear sooner.

  • Just happy it's Friday.  It will be my last calm weekend for a little while.  Jazz Fest starts up next weekend and runs for two weeks (Thurs.-Sun. each week).  I only live a few blocks from it, but I don't have my own driveway.  So I get trapped at my house because, if I move my car, I lose my spot.

I'm actually going to make this a little "test" at my workplace.  I'm going to request WFH for those two Fridays.  Fridays are already half days for me.  If they don't allow it, I will be massively PO'ed because they have let one of the people in my department WFH on a number of occasions when he had work being done at his house or other appointments near his house he needed to take care of.  It will also be a bad sign for them letting me WFH when I move and I will immediately start looking for a WFH job, plus fed up with being treated like a second-class citizen.

I'd still take those Fridays off, but would have to do it as vacation days.

  • sounds like nice weekends for everyone so far!

Nothing major here. I'm sure the IL's will be antsy to see the kids at some point, but before we see them again H is going to have a firm conversation around forced hugs and kisses and general personal space boundaries. They don't have them and it's important for us and our kids. It will go over like a lead balloon - but maybe that means we won't have to manage their feelings for a little bit? That's always a weight off.

One of the mornings we'll go out to breakfast and then an indoor play place tree house thing that we have a gift card to :)

I bought some new nail files/polish, sheet masks, undereye patches, stuff like that this week and am going to start making more of an effort to look and feel put together. Who knows if it makes a noticeable difference, but it feels good so i'm into it!
  • I'm gearing up to be busy.  Tomorrow morning is a race in town and I'm helping Chiquita's troop sell cookies there.   After that I need to get her home and into soccer clothing so she can get to her scrimmage and I'll prep to sub cantor.  The organists this time are substitutes too so I'm crossing my fingers that it goes OK.

Sunday I hope to go see my dad and it's also my parents anniversary.  It'll be a lot of driving.

  • Really looking forward to the weekend. Tonight I’m taking a long walk in my new sneakers (need to break them in before London), tmrw I’m having brunch with my dad during which he will surely ask me to draw a diagram of the IVF process but he’s honestly been so sweet about it, and then winetime with a friend because as she put it “if this works you’ll be stuck on seltzer” which should be great. Sunday there’s a marathon literally outside my window so I plan to watch and do some cleaning and chill.
  • I am tired. I didn’t get to bed until almost 1 and then woke up at 6. Oof. I was so out of it I forgot my arsenal of teas at home on the counter.

SSDD for me today. This weekend we have back to back birthday parties for H’s friend and for SIL A. I’m looking forward to them, it’s just a lot of back and forth and social energy for two introverts. But it should be fun and it will be nice to see everyone. I’m salty the heat is spiking so quickly. 87 degrees today! I would like to commit to an early hike tomorrow but after this week I might need to sleep in and then just hit the gym instead. We’ll see though. Maybe future me will get some sort of a pep in her step that I don’t currently have.

Everyone’s weekend sounds pretty nice so far!

OMG, Friday is here.  Work has sufficiently kicked my ass this week.

Work is letting us pick out sunglasses from Blenders.  They have so many cute options.

They met DH's final offer.  He talked to the boss lady again and laid out his concerns and frustrations.  She provided some more information that is making this hard all over again.  We're taking the weekend to decide.  She offered to talk to me and DH, but I'm good.  It's about us, but it's not about me and I also don't need a hard sell.

Costco tonight.  Not sure about the rest of the weekend.  Step-GMIL may be in town, so I'm sure we'll see her if she is.  We are going to try to hike on Sunday even though it will be chilly-willy.  I'll probably have to do some work too. But on the upside, we have Maisel and Ted Lasso to watch this weekend and the new Succession episode Sunday.  Plus I'm hoping to squeeze in more Shrinking.
  • Work is also kicking my ass. I was in 4 days this week and have an event I have to go to tonight. I just want to sleep. We have a busy weekend and I just don’t want to do anything besides nap and watch tv.

Both of them sound sweet and supportive. When will you do the IVF?

@CharmedPam just hanging out beneath/around my parents' backyard cherry blossom tree, with a picnic.  Though I am planning on baking a cherry pie.
@kerbohl we're the opposite, it's usually at its peak the last week of April, but it was such a mild winter that it blossomed early :/ we'll enjoy nonetheless
  • Cherry blossom… cherry pie… I see what you did there…

Starting meds today, hopefully a transfer in May!
So exciting!!! Wishing all the best for you!!!!
  • Oof, this week at work has just been soul sucking grinding work.  I love the new software, but getting my projects into it just takes TIIMMMEEEE and it doesn't help that the previous person in my position didn't know WTF they were doing, so I'm having to do clean up work before even trying to move things into the new software.  Oh well, it all would've had to been accomplished at some point, so I'm trying hard to reframe it as work that will pay off quickly.

No big plans for the weekend.  Getting my brows threaded tomorrow.  Will go see mom on Sunday.  A good friend of mine has an artist showcase thing he does with other artists every month, but he's also a great DJ and is spinning at the event this time.  So I might go try and see that, I really miss electronica and DJ shows.
  • It's been a rough work week; I'm just checking in for the first time in days. IL's are coming tonight, so that's my weekend. Hopefully I have time to blow off the driveway and get to the grocery before they get here.

@short+sassy, Did you end up getting those plug in pest things from Amazon? We've been getting mosquitos and now chipmunks on our deck and in our garage and I'm considering trying them out, but I'm wondering whether the dog would really not be bothered by them.
  • We got home from Virginia Thursday afternoon. The funeral was nice and the family time was good for all. Our three kids plus DIL made it. SIL stayed home with the little ones. Some cousins came. It is at the point that the only time the cousins get together is at funerals. H and the cousins talked about getting together sometime for fun!

I'm starting to do stuff to get ready for our trip to SC. H has a meeting in PA next week. We leave the morning after he returns so we want as much stuff pulled together as possible before he leaves.

Allergies are kicking my butt right now. I'm on meds but peak time is always awful. My eyes are an itchy red mess.

We are going to our local theater for our last show of the season on Saturday. We had to reschedule it since we will be in SC for our original date. Monday I have book club. I read the book a while back and actually saw a play based on the book. It is about Gander Newfoundland on 9/11 - The Day the World Came to Town.

I binged Deadringers yesterday while doing house stuff. Weird but good. Now I want to watch the original movie and read the book. H and I started watching Diplomats last night. It is good. The writing reminds me of The Americans (both star Keri Russell).

I have not gotten them for myself yet, so can only give secondhand info.  But one of my tenants where those units went has a dog and she confirmed it had not seemed to notice it.

They were the main reason we looked for alternative methods.  They have a really small Chihuahua dog, plus she watches her young grandson.  We couldn't put down traps or poison because of the dog and child, which is a crucial part of pest control.  We hired exterminators a few times, but that is pretty much all they do also.

For mosquitos specifically, we spray all around the exterior of the house with bifenthrin insecticide.  It only needs to be done once a year, but it is a miracle worker.  I am extremely susceptible to mosquito bites and it drastically cuts down on how many I get.

  • @MyNameIsNot I was flirting with getting those kinds of pest control, but ended up not.  I'm just still worried it would mess with my rabbits.  The rat situation seems to have died down significantly, though I did see a bunch over the weekend.  I'm going the rat trap and poison route.  The poison still worries me though.
