Deceased future FIL

So my fiance's dad passed away when he was young. Since he asked my father for my hand,  i want to kinda ask his father for his hand,  more of a line "I promise this and this" but I'm not sure how to do it.  I was thinking of maybe an engraved stone and then leaving at his head stone  but wanted to see if anyone else had any other ideas?

    Something like that is really personal.    Regarding leaving anything at headstones I would avoid it - cemeteries often have rules about what can be left before it's removed and discarded and there may be a spouse or other family members that feel like they are in authority of what can or can't be placed.

    What about a photo of your FI and his dad and include a heartfelt note?
