Re: TGIF

  • So happy it's Friday and that the air quality is much better here!

Having some friends over tonight for my best friend's birthday. Not much else planned for the weekend aside from running errands and doing stuff around the house.

    @Casadena happy birthday to N!
@ei34 glad your ex has stepped up!
  • @Casadena, Happy birthday to N!  Yay, fresh new bathroom!

I'm glad the air quality has finally improved for you all.

I've already mentioned through the week what I'm doing today and tomorrow.  Here is my gloss over, lol.  Safari to the suburbs today...I got a bonus coupon today from Big Lots for $10 off a $20 purchase, so I'm hoping they let me use it at the "going out of business" location.

Tomorrow is when my friend and I are going to that nature preserve to spend quality time with sloths!  Plus visit the rest of the animals at this location.  They said to plan for 2-3 hours to see the preserve before the sloth event at 5PM.  It's about a 2-hour drive away.  I'm thinking we should leave around mid-day and get some lunch on the way.  Lots of good Cajun places along the route.

Don't get me wrong, the Cajun food is great in New Orleans.  But when you get out of the city and into the country, it's another level!

I was looking for online for reviews/recommendations.  One place advertised it also processes deer.  That's what I'm talking about, lol!  You know it's down-home, little town great boudin and sausages when there's a butcher in the back for game.

  • I'm pretty impressed with how the paint turned out! Seems to be holding up well so far, but i really didn't want to rip down tile and mess with new drywall, so for $75 all in on paint, it seemed worth a try! Just glad it's functional again! The toilet and sink had both been broken for almost a year.

OMG enjoy your sloth day!! What a cool event.
  • I'm here. So glad it's Friday.

I think we're hiking tomorrow.  Not sure about Sunday.  I'm hoping I can sleep in on Sunday and just relax.  It's going to be rainy and cooler.  The last 2 weeks have been a lot of stuff going on all at once.  I need a lazy day.

    SSDD otherwise.

@Casadena, I love it! Don’t you love how white opens everything up?
@short+sassy, I’m jelly.  And if a sloth reaches for one of your glasses of wine, take heart in knowing you have two and a half days to swat his/her hand away and tell them “no!”
@ei34 glad it worked out for you!
happy the AQI is going down for all effected :)

i got my new glasses from glassesshop.  I like them, I used them before but noticed that because the bridge of my nose is so wide, the bar in the middle of the glasses and the side pads dig into my skin and leave marks.  So this webpage allows a custom search for a wider bridge eyeglass.
Guess how attractive the options for any bridge over 24 mm is? Lol.  The average is 18 or 19. The frames are giganic and look so funny on me! I guess I have a normal sized head, eyes closer together - but a wide nose? But they’re comfortable and don’t leave marks…. they’re just not anything anyone can see me in! (i bought them for TV watching.  Alone). Anyone have NSFP glasses? (Not safe for public)

  • So excited for fresh air and blue skies! My bedroom is yet again a dire situation so I’ve promised myself if I actually clean it, I can buy the new coverlet and pillow covers I’ve been eyeing. And the dance dress I bought online from a stranger with no way to return arrived and it is gorgeous and fits perfectly.
  • So, yesterday I was scrolling through FB after work.  My piercing place posted that they had a last minute cancellation, so they were offering it up to anyone.  I sat there for 10 minutes, called, and it was still open.  So, I have a new nose piercing!  I've wanted it for forever, but my piercer books months out and I just couldn't seem to make the commitment.  I also got a new piece of jewelry for my helix piercing.  I had a beautiful crescent piece, but the flat back was catching my hair as I'm growing it out.  He even had to unwind it out of my hair when he took it out.  So, I'm glad I did it.  Replaced it with a hoop that looks like 3 hoops in one.

Also, it's been a year of growing my hair out and I'm not sure I'm feeling it anymore.  I just look so matronly.

Not too much this weekend.  Our pride is this weekend and, no matter my personal feelings, I am so worried about it.  There have been threats of violence from a specific group.  That group has called all of the sponsors of Pride to try and convince them to pull out.  They then called all of the churches around here and rallied up the conservative base.  Their specific complaint is the name of one of the drag queens, who is from this area and has been on RuPaul's Drag Race.  There have been verified threats of people coming in dressed as police officers so they can open fire on the attendees.  Since it is an old fashioned city square, it would be so easy for someone to just drive into the attendees as well.

I know that a significant police presence, both local and county, are going to be there, and private security has been hired.  I live basically on the other side of the block of our city square where the festival will be.  I've decided to stay home, so that if anything happens, I can open my home up for a safe space.  Unfortunately, I had a shooting right outside my window a few months ago, so I know exactly what gunshots sound like when they're close.  My next door neighbor is an EMT training to be a paramedic, he'll be home as well, and we've discussed what we'll do.  I'm very fearful, I feel helpless, and I'm incredibly angry about all of it.

Sunday I'm going to see Hedwig and the Angry Inch on the big screen as part of a Pride movie month.  They have a speciality brunch for it too, so I'm just really excited for that.  I signed up to see Mortal Kombat (the 1995 version, not the 2022 travesty), but it's at 9:40 and IDK why I thought I could make that.
  • Happy birthday N! @Casadena

The nature preserve and sloth thing so fun! @short+sassy

*Hugs* @VarunaTT that’s so heavy and awful.

I’m glad the smoke is finally dying down for everyone.

I’m off today. I have a facial at noon and I’m plan I g on hiking later. I’m trying to get errands done today so I can really enjoy my next few days off. I’m a little bummed, I did a bad thing and joined the massage place near me again because my favorite masseuse was back (she had moved). After that I was busy the last 2-3 months and couldn’t get a massage. So I tried to book a massage with her and they told me she was out on medical leave until the end of July! 😭 of course I hope she’s okay first and foremost, but I am disappointed I did that dumb annual commitment when the main reason I signed up again is unavailable.

It’s H’s finals week next week and let me just say, kids aren’t the only ones looking forward for school to be over. Man needs to relax. Lol.

  • @VarunaTT I'm so sorry. I hope this weekend is peaceful and that you feel safe.
  • @VarunaTT, What a bunch of monsters!  No one's sexuality is affecting them.  Why do they even care, much less threatening violence.  Especially since they usually call themselves Christian, yet God seems very anti-violence to me.  I'm sorry to hear they're scaring people and putting a damper on the festivities.  I really hope they are just a bunch of blowhards who stay home and everyone at Pride has a great time.  But it sucks their threats will affect attendance.

  • @VarunaTT I’m so sorry.  It’s so awful you even have to think about making those plans.

  • @Casadena what a change! Also happy bday N!

@short+sassy  There's a place in Ottawa that I can do sloth encouter and we're doing it this summer. I'm very excited, I love sloths. You're going to love it so much :)

    @VarunaTT ooh new piercing!
    Also hopefully you're safe <3
  • I cannot tell you how much I'm looking forward to BK being at my mum's this weekend.
I am so tired and I have zero desire to parent.

Ideally I'll grab a nap tomorrow afternoon so I won't be too draggy but M & I aren't sure if we're doing early dinner or normal time.
I may base it on how I feel tbh.
M & I do have things to get on top of. Closet is one because I need to purchase a new desk and where it'll go is where I have a dresser.

It's a domino effect with some stuff *sigh*

Anyways lowkey weekend. I'll probably take BK to park on Sunday when she's back. Or in the back with her toys.
  • @Casadena it looks so good!
@VarunaTT That's so scary. Sending vibes for a fun and happy pride. May the bigots shoot themselves in the feet.

So glad it's Friday. Add me to the so tired list, but I'm not totally sure why. Tonight we're going to hang out on the couch and catch up on top chef. Tomorrow early run, then pool with my mom and niece, and a game at night. I'm hoping to finish up pressure washing on Sunday, but it's looking like rain here too, so I'm not sure yet. I wouldn't be heart broken to be stuck reading on the couch all day.

I found out this week that work is sending me to India again this summer. I went once before pre-pandemic and said that if I ever went again I'd take H, so here we go. I'm super excited to go and take him, but I'm also kind of relieved that this means skipping the family trip this year.
  • @VarunaTT it's really unfortunate that places that were supposed to be safe are now threatened.

My friend lives in a town going through issues that made headlines due to a principal showing the kids a pride video and parents are up in arms.  One dad complained that he wasn't informed about a "Pride Month".    Chiquita opted to attend the GSA end of year party this year (Gay Straight Alliance) for the school this year and I'm grateful that our school has a place supportive of all students.

Weekend is going to be busy.  Tomorrow we need to get the kids to a baseball game, then soccer and then drop them off with FIL who will take Chiquita to her SECOND soccer game and then they'll spend the night while DH and I are seeing Dave Matthews Band.  Sunday they'll take the kids to church and we'll meet them there.  The mass will be said in honor of our niece who would be 4 next week so it's an important one for the family to be there.    And Sunday night is Chiquitos Blue and Gold dinner.  He wants to make a cake so sometime tomorrow we need to actually bake it and then we'll decorate it Sunday to look like a campfire.
