Wedding Woes

Another Thursday

I can post Prudie later if no one else is around. What's everyone up to? Feels like the weekend just ended and it's already starting again tomorrow.

I have to interview 2 candidates this afternoon for my old job and I'm actually kind of nervous. It's been awhile since i've interviewed anyone. Trying to gather my thoughts and write down questions to be prepared but also stay flexible based on how the conversation is going. Hopefully they go well!

Re: Another Thursday

  • Good luck with the interviews!

Not too much going on over here. The air quality is absolutely abysmal. Literally almost as bad as when we had all of the fires. Of course now we do have a few fires too after some fireworks started some bush fires. Yesterday the air was so thick I could barely see our local hiking spot from the freeway. There were a lot of breathing treatments in the clinic yesterday.

Thinking of everyone and sending to good vibes and hugs to everyone struggling with their health.

  • You just reminded me to check our AQI @levioosa.  Back down to 52, which is good because I have a sculpture walk tonight with meetup. I told my parents I’d go back next week but before I start to rearrange my appts and stuff, I have to make sure I’m needed. I don’t want to cancel things if they don’t need help with the boys.

@Casadena, good luck with the interviews!  Hopefully you find someone great.  I'm having flashbacks.  One of my first jobs out of college was working directly at one of those temp/placement agencies.  Interviewing people looking for work was half my job.  So, so, so many interviews, lol.

@levioosa, I hope the air quality gets better in your neck of the woods.

I signed up for Prime again after a 3-month break.  In anticipation of Prime Days next week!  They also gave me one-month free.  $45 total savings from that break and the free month.  I was immediately greeted with an offer for a free $5 gift card with the purchase of a $50 one.  The promo is for anyone with Prime.  The $50 gift card has to be purchased by July 10th.

I got another free offer from Harrahs to go to Laughlin, NV for a week in September.  My H and I talked about it last night and started to get excited about going.  He's never been and I haven't been since I moved to NOLA 25 years ago.

But we neglected to look at the temps, which I just did.  GD, Laughlin!  I thought NOLA was bad.  I was expecting it to still be hot in late September.  But like maybe, at worst, the high 80s/low 90s.  The average high in late Sept is the low 100s.  For funsies, I could see from the graph that July is their hottest month, so I looked that up.  Average high in July is 112.

Thankfully, I haven't booked it yet.  He and I will need to re-evaluate later tonight, lol.  But then after the sun goes down, it's not too bad.  Lows are the mid-70s.  Gamble during the day, hang out in the pool in the evening?  But then some of the other stuff I want to do is during the day.  Like jet skis and boat tours up the Colorado River.  I'm torn.

These are the situations when I laugh if my local peeps say but it's a dry heat.  Puh-leez, it's still hot AF and over 100 degrees!

Edited: Also enjoying jamming again to Amazon's streaming music now that I'm Prime again.

  • I love prime! Aside from delivery, which pays for itself sometimes, I’m starting to really use the music, podcasts and videos. My smart TV in my gym currently only has prime hooked up to it.  Watch “Jury Duty”. It’s great!
i’d also still go to NV, like you said, stay indoors during the day and out at night!

  • So, I've been slowly decorating my apartment to my own likes, loves, and wants.  Which has been amazing, b/c I've never had that experience before.  To be frank, this probably keeps me from dating too b/c I don't want to share my space at all or move from it.

It started with a window film in this pattern.  I have a huge window feature that is in between the bedroom and the living room, so needed to cover it.  I loved this, it had the right style (mid modern century) and colors that I wanted:
uniQstiQ Pattern with Doodle Circle Peel and Stick Wallpaper 25 inchesW x 125 inchesH Multicolor G0019_125

Well, I then found that pattern in a duvet.  Which is great b/c the window film shows through so it pulls that pattern into the bedroom (everything else is white, blue, or orange; bedroom is large enough that it's not overwhelming).  THEN, I found it in a shower curtain.  Put that up in the bathroom and used a 2nd one to make Euro pillow shams for the bed.

Well, I just found the pattern in peel and stick wallpaper.  I have a giant wall on one side of my living room that is probably at least 15'x15 just from rough measuing.  But I didn't want a whole huge wall of this pattern, so I'm going to cut out giant 5-7 circles and put them on the wall.  Probably 3, but maybe 5 depending on the sizes of circles i use.  That way, the pattern is there, the wall is getting some decor love, but it's not completely overwhelming.  So, the entire open floor plan is all pulled together with matching elements, but you can never see all of the matching elements together at once b/c of the way the apartment flows.  Then I think most of the big elements are finally finished and the rest will just be from living.  I'm excited.  This might be my "vacation" plan.

Otherwise SSDD.  Just trying to get things up to date and prepped for vacation.  And of course, lots of stuff on MY work will be happening that week.  **sigh** it's like a setup **laughing**

  • Speaking of music.  As much as I love Adele and even specifically that "Hello" song, has it ever occurred to anyone else that the protagonist in the song is a total stalker, lol?  Calling their former love a million times and the person never answers or contacts them back.

Like Police's "Every Breath You Take".  A scary, not a romantic song, if you listen to the words.  But I like that song anyway, too, lol.

Because both songs have such great lyrics that resonate with missing a lost love and what "could have been"...if you gloss over the stalker-vibe words.

  • I love that pattern @VarunaTT!!

Good luck with the interviews @Casadena. If you don’t mind a little advice, I’ve done a fair amount of interviewing- write down the questions you know you want all candidates to answer and lead with those. Take notes while they’re talking. It’s going to make everything so much easier when you have to decide who to hire!
  • Well today sucked. H had his MRI yesterday and a meeting with the doctor today- fully tore the ligament off the bone so he needs surgery. Which he is having tomorrow at 7:30 in the morning. I’m not rearranging everything. Even my ultrasound I was supposed to have tomorrow. I’m angry and tired.

  • @charlotte989875, I'm sorry to hear surgery is necessary!  I hope everything goes well and he has a smooth recovery.

    I'm sorry @charlotte989875.

After the last few weeks and other trips we've made to the ER it's frustrating when you know that your plans have to be reworked.
  • @VarunaTT that's one boundary my mum decided on if her bf moved in - she wasn't changing her style, and if didn't like it - leave.
Tbh he's added a few things to the overall look that benefits.
