Wedding Woes

Prime Tuesday

Me: *I don’t need anything* *I don’t need anything* *I don’t need anything*
Amazon Prime: You need this.
Me: Fair enough!

Re: Prime Tuesday

  • I got Pedro without helmet as Mando with Grogu, blanket basket, file folder for BK's school stuff I wanna keep, silicone oven/bbq safe containers AND I got the Scrub Daddy BBQ brush for M's bday that's this friday but it won't come until next week.
  • I'm trying VERY hard not to buy anything for Prime day.

Also hi - haven't been around since last week. I had to put my dog down on Thursday and I'm still an emotional wreck. I held her as she took her last breaths. She was 6 months old when I adopted her and turned 13 last month. I'm just happy that it was fast. I buried her in the backyard and am working on making her a gravestone.

the whole weeks was pretty nuts. Our fridge completely died Friday night and they can't get a repair person out until Thursday. It's an LG fridge and only two years old!

So, yeah. Just trying to get through the days right now.
  • oh man, @climbingsingle i'm so sorry for your loss. Lots of hugs for you.
  • I’m so sorry for your loss, @climbingsingle.  And that’s way to early for a fridge breakdown. What a week!

I got a bunch of stuff I don’t need, yup.  Some games for the kids…. Got a bathroom mirror that replaced the one that shattered when I did my remodel, so I’m not counting it as a “fun” purchase.

  • Oh no @climbingsingle.  I'm so sorry for your loss.  Boo to the fridge being out and it taking for-ev-er to be repaired.

I'm here.  Trying hard not to work, but shit keeps popping up.  My office is full of suitcases and stuff we need to pack.  I'm waiting for my final Amazon packages.  I'm *not* looking at Prime Day because we don't need to give them any more money and we need the money we have for the trip.

I don't want to go to this 4-hour meeting this afternoon, even though I am grateful it was moved to zoom.  Still...it's a no from me.  LOL
  • @climbingsingle, I am so sorry to hear about your dog!  We love them so much and it's not fair their lives are too short.  And what awful timing for the fridge to break down the next day.  It's too late now, but Coleman makes an awesome large cooler that will keep food cold for up to 7 days.  At only $80, it's the "poor man's Yeti".  Ironically, I think I got mine at Prime last year for $45.

Already spent over $300 at Amazon and I'm not done yet, lol. But I also used $60 in gift cards.  $10 of that was "free" gift cards.

Some of it was impulse.  But most of it is stuff I regularly buy or had my eye on buying.  I have a pair of extra comfy slide sandals that are still nice looking enough to wear to work.  I bought a pair last year for $20.  But then they raised the price to $40.  $17 right now for Prime!  My original pair is about worn out, so I bought that same light brown color.  As well as another pair in black.  Score!

I'm actually skipping my next month's "Subscribe and Save" because most of the items on it were even cheaper during Prime.

I was also excited to see it is 7% back instead of 5% back with the Amazon store card, when also choosing "No Rush" shipping.

  • @climbingsingle so sorry for your loss pets are such treasures
  • My sister told me that her BF talked with my parents while they were visiting about proposing soon and my mom gave him an old family ring to use, so i'm really looking forward to that! I'm excited for my sis. I'm also excited to go dress shopping with her - she's not a huge fan of WEDDING stuff so i need to find a few places that are either secondhand, vintage, or just very her style (romantic, boho, nontraditional). Also helping plan stuff will be fun :)

Adding literally everything to my amazon cart *eye roll*. I'll wait to check out until later in the day just to mull over what is really "needed' vs "exciting to have bc i feel like it's a deal"
  • I forgot my phone at home today, which is keeping me from getting notified of all of the Prime deals and I'm not upset about that.  I just don't really need anything.  Plus when I checked my wish list of stuff...um, i think they raised their prices, then had a "prime day" drop on things.  So, the weight set I wanted is still $100, but it's now showing 34% off?  There were a few things that looked like that, b/c I watch their prices to check for drops on the "I'd like to have but don't need right now".  No thank you.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'm struggling with concentration today and I'm just ready to not be here for a bit.  Already in vacation mode, I guess.
  • Kind of in an eyerolling mode over a family wedding.  We received the invitation over a month ago to the entire family.  Then the week Chiquita was hospitalized we got a family text that they received the responses back and now they're over capacity so are any people interested in getting a sitter.

We responded yes thinking it would be a family member opening up their home (the wedding and reception are local to many family members but it's about an hour and a half from our house) and today a cousin chimed in that they found us a sitter and they're happy to share her rates with us and the us is our family and BIL and SIL.

BIL and SIL are driving 8 hours to attend this and BIL said that it's not like they have a place to drop their kids of AND this is a visit they're making out here.   So the offer for a sitter is now looking like sitter in BIL and SIL's hotel room.

Chiquita's awake and alert but not high energy and I'm not down for paying a sitter to watch my kids in a hotel for 5 hours in a new place so instead I think DH and I are back to square one looking for either a sitter or two families that would be interested in a 12 hour play date for the kids.

The bride is from a big family so I get it.  But I'm annoyed at the bait and switch and now cost thrust on us and the family is also very much aware that Chiquita was hospitalized too.   In any other area I'd just roll my eyes that it's bait and switch but now I'm feeling extra prickly and possibly somewhat unjustified.
  • I got new beats in ear headphones for Prime Day. That was my only exciting purchase.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss @climbingsingle. We went through that 2 years ago with our two dogs - on the same day.

I've bought some Christmas gifts so far from Prime day. Haven't looked for anything for myself - don't really need to.
  • I’m so sorry @climbingsingle

@VarunaTT I think Amazon is actually in a class action lawsuit right now for that.

It’s the family birthday week. We are going out tomorrow for BIL A’s bday. Then Friday we are begrudgingly going to SIL B’s bday. There’s been drama and overall it’s eye roll worthy but whatever. It’s so hot here (100 today) and I’m bummed summer finally hit us. But we should have fun with SIL A and her H tomorrow. We have plans to go to. Mexican restaurant we like and then there’s a cool game place near by. I took the next two days off of work so I only have to survive a half day on Friday.

@levioosa so glad it's a short week for you
@climbingsingle oh jeez, nothing worse than saying goodbye to a beloved pet dog, sending all the love and comfort
@banana468 yeaahhhh I'd be at that wedding with all of the originally invited guests and not scrambling to find an OOT sitter. Sounds like poor planning on the couple's part and absolutely not a problem you and your H should be scrambling to solve
  • @climbingsingle oh I'm so sorry :( that's hard

@ei34 DH is kind of pissed.  I'll admit that the wedding invitation in the inside said "Children of immediate family only" but the outside was addressed to our family.  And his family is kind of notorious for overriding things after stuff is printed.  To add - when talking to him he just tilted his head wondering if this means that all the sibilings are bringing even their toddlers?  I think he feels shut out which hurts again - especially in a family where they put family above all else.

Our kids are among the 70+ in their generation so it's tempting to just bring them and show up at the reception with them in tow but the other issue is that I know this is going to be something that gets to MIL (because BIL and SIL were basically told that the sitter will go to their hotel) and she's already feeling icy to that side.

So while DH and I are really frustrated by this, if we did the route of showing up with our kids and just forcing them in we'd start to have the reputation that we're quite similar to his mom who the family knows is..a handful.      She's likely going to be audibly abrasive because that's how she is when she feels like she or her children are wronged.

Tonight I'm hoping to run into one of my friends and if not, I'll text her to ask if she can take Chiquita maybe even for a sleepover.  If not then I'll look for a sitter that will watch my kids for 12 hours.  I'll be annoyed that it'll be at my cost but it will be in my house vs forcing my kids to get dressed up to attend the ceremony in a church that doesn't have AC.

  • @climbingsingle, I'm so sorry for your loss.
