Back from a week at the beach (Jersey shore)...my kids really became comfortable and confident ocean swimmers this year, which was fun.  Was going to stay until today or tomorrow, but got a bit family-ed out (my siblings, their families and my parents all under one roof) and happy to be home.
  • Glad you had fun @ei34
I’m supposed to leave tomorrow, but my brother is all alone now. I’m going to call and see if my hairdresser had a cancellation Sunday, and then maybe I can stay another day and help him out.  But truth be told, 4 little boys are NOT easy to look after.  One boy is angry and taking it out on people (more than usual).  One boy is more quiet.  And the other two don’t understand.  Actually the 2.5 year old DOES bring up his mommy and then says “mommy is in my heart”.  It’s the sweetest thing but so sad.
Bath & bodyworks got me.  Halloween merch is out. Are the scents halloweeny at all? No.  Are they named something with a creepy name? Yes.  Does that make me buy it? Also, yes.

  • @ei34, I'm glad you all had so much fun at the beach!  I'm jealous.  It's so neat all of your family can take a vacation together.  Though I can understand it can be a bit much after a week.  That's a big group of people, even if they are loved ones you are close to.

It's great your kids became better and more confident swimmers!  That was a huge thing with my parents.  They put my sister and I in swimming classes starting as toddlers.  I grew up next to the Pacific Ocean, which has strong and powerful waves.  I was a decent swimmer, but never felt comfortable going very far out in it.  I've never been to the Atlantic that far north.  But in FL the Atlantic Ocean is pretty flat and wave-less.  Probably why you see surfboard icons/stereotypes for CA and not FL, lol.

I feel like I'm betraying my homeland, but that is why I like the beaches better in the Gulf.  The water is warmer with nice swells and the waves aren't scary.  Though for the Atlantic side in Miami, both the beaches and water close to the shore looked dirty and gross.

All right, I'm done living vicariously and reminiscing about beaches, lol.

My friend and neighbor is having a game night/pizza party tonight so I am looking forward to that.  Though I feel bad for her.  Her excuse for the party was to celebrate her new HVAC system.  Except they screwed it up.

They had it all done and installed.  Had already left.  And then she realized the next day that it doesn't have a heat pump and it was supposed to.  They came back and took all the equipment away and reinstalled her old system, until they can come back and do the job right.  Apparently it's not just different equipment, but the installation is also different, so they have to do a bunch of work to fix and change that.  Oooofff!

But the party goes on!  Because she's a trooper!

I mentioned in a post last week that I was supposed to have a phone interview with a BBC reporter about high insurance in the Gulf.  She flaked on me (eyeroll).  It was supposed to have been on Monday.  She JUST sent me an e-mail apologizing for that (almost a week later) and tried to reschedule.  But also said she'd talked to her editor and they said they only want people willing to allow their full name in the article.

I was nice and replied back.  I told her I definitely wouldn't be comfortable with my last name used in the article.  But asked her to send me a link to the article once it was published because I'd be interested in reading it.

  • @ei34 glad your kids had fun!

Beach day today for Chiquita is canceled because of the heat advisory.  She's SO sad about it but I had to remind her that it's for her health - and she needs that!

Chiquito woke up with no fever and so far has been holding steady.  I last gave him Tylenol at bedtime so my fingers are crossed that we've turned that corner and I'll tell the babysitter that tomorrow is a lay low day and I'll ask him to wear a mask.  There's a feeling of family obligation here that makes me feel good about trying to get to the shindig.

Sunday if we can all be healthy we have the mass for our niece and hopefully some beach or boat time.
  • Glad the beach time was good @ei34

@CharmedPam my heart just breaks for those little boys. My prayers for your family.

DS2 comes home this evening. He specifically is coming home to go out to our fave Mexican restaurant and have their elote. It is only available during peak summer corn time which is now in Indiana. I've been cleaning today instead of working out. However, cleaning is a workout out on its own! We are having storms this morning and it is crazy hot and humid.
  • @CharmedPam, my heart really goes out to you all.  Especially your brother and nephews.  It's tough for two parents to take care of four little ones, much less being on your own and everyone is grieving.  You're a good sister and deserve some Bath and Body Halloween treats.  Even if they still smell like the typical vanilla or some kind of fruit/flower.

On a different note, I heard back from the e-mail I sent yesterday to the big boss.  He seemed to like my response, so I'm glad I didn't sound like a gibbering fool, lol.  Apparently there is another employee who could start doing p/t work in a few weeks.  That sounds like a perfect solution for everyone, including me and my more selfish reasons, so I'm glad he and I seem to be on the same page for more help.  I'd been worried he wanted to hire someone new and then I'd have hardly any work for them.

  • I'm glad it's the weekend.  Struggling with my lungs again this morning, so I opted to skip the shot.  I'm must go next week.  Then to top it off, a collegue walked back with incredibly strong cologne on and now I'm really uncomfortable.  I get that people love scents on themselves, but why must it be 20 square feet around you and linger when you've walked by?

I have the fundraiser dinner tonight that I'm really looking forward to.  I"m so looking forward to seeing my friend L tonight too.  We chat all the time online, but we are kind of terrible about seeing each other in person.  I'm also seeing the Barbie movie on Sunday.  I'm testing a new app called, "Go Pee" that vibrates your cell phone at a scene that isn't important so you can run to the restroom.  I really want to see Oppenheimer in the theatres, but 3 hours with no intermission is not doable.  I'd pay more for a movie with an intermission.

Watching qualifying this morning and just grinding away.
  • Early Board meeting so I’m at the office but my afternoon meeting got cancelled so I’m absolutely going home early.

M is going to my moms tomorrow night and H and I are going out to celebrate my birthday. We’re doing dinner at 5pm so I can go to bed early. I love it.

@CharmedPam that's so hard, I'm heartbroken for your nephews, your brother is lucky to have such a support system though don't neglect your own self-care (like indulging in fun scents...I got the bath&body coupon in the mail yesterday too.  Not a Halloween fan but I love autumn and their fall line is awesome!)
@short+sassy I don't adore ocean swimming.  I can do it, but we just returned from the town pool and it's night and day as far as having my eyes glued on the kids.  Aside from the occasional jetty / inlet situation, our ocean (both here on Long Island and NJ) could be described as not calm.
