Leave the party house

Dear Prudence,

I (M22) am a school teacher who can’t seem to get a date. My roommate (M26) is just about the only fun person I know. Even though he’s still in med school, he manages to drink everyone under the table, go swimming every morning, and be the life of every party. He’s basically the only cool thing in my life, although sometimes annoying to be around. I finally have the opportunity to move out. An older friend (M38), who is finally leaving his cheating wife, has offered me a room at his place. In a lot of ways, I think this is a better situation given my personality, but I’m afraid that leaving now will cheat me out of a good time while I’m young. What should I do?

Re: Leave the party house

  • You don't need to live in a party place to have a good time.
  • You can still hang out with party roommate even if you don’t live with him.

But it sounds like it’s time to find some hobbies and things you’re interested in.
  • Seems like moving out is the best option, since he sometimes finds his roommate annoying.

He will probably like him just fine when they are no longer living together and only socializing as friends.  It sounds like the best of both worlds.

  • This letter is bit all over the place.

LW, if your roomate isn't a good match, he isn't, move out.  Make an effort to still stay friends if you want to OR put yourself out there to find other friends who are more your speed for fun.

LW doesn't say what he's doing to find a date, but if he's relying on "fun" roomate to introduce him to someone to date, that's not really going to work.  "fun" roomate will be introducing LW to his people...who also probably won't be a good match?  That is a different issue that LW needs to examine and start working to get out there for people he's interested in.
  • I’d stay. All roommates are annoying and there’s a lot of good with this one.
  • Roommate doesn’t drink everyone under the table despite being in Med school. He drinks everyone under the table because he’s in Med school lol.

And all roommates are annoying. You think 38 year old doesn’t have some stupid habits that are set in their ways?

  • Wait, what does any of this have to do with not being able to get a date?

Anyway, I'd live where ever is cheaper.
