Wedding Woes

Wednesday

I was out sick yesterday and my face still feels like it's going to explode. Fun times. Weather is gorgeous though. What's everyone up to?

Re: Wednesday

  • Ugh we are still dealing with rainy/cloudy weather. Seems like the sun is finally trying to come out, but the traffic this morning was horrendous.

We had to move our wedding date for next year, which is not a huge deal but I definitely had some stressful moments yesterday. A band that N loves (and 90% of his guests, including his best woman) announced a festival on the same weekend we had planned, and it's 90 mins away from our venue. So after much thought and discussion, we moved it up to a weekday. Thankfully it works for all our VIPs.

  • Finally after so much back and forth Chiquita had an infusion yesterday that was covered by insurance.

Work is busy and I need to get stuff for Chiquito's birthday party.  I know he's excited but a 9 yo birthday party is something I'm going to be esxcited once it's in the past and I feel like it was a success.
  • do not do upgrade level renos .... my house is domino effect of things.

Next week my uncle is coming to paint our main level, so I've been taking art down etc. I need to get donation stuff out so we can move a bunch of stuff upstairs.
Then we'll have to buy new t.v stand from ikea - which we planned and have gift cards for - but it's everything else that needs to move.

*sigh* it's a lot more than you'd think.

We're getting a new rug and side table but those are slow roll because we're doing ruggable and that's $400 rug
  • Feel better @Casadena!
Oohh fingers crossed @short+sassy that’d be awesome if it was a permanent change

The majority of the ACs at my school are broken and I’m just roasting.  The temp isn’t even that high anymore but the humidity and all the bodies are making it ultra uncomfortable.  Otherwise ssdd and thankful we’re at the halfway point.
  • The school board in our former district, which one of my BFF's sits on (she won the seat in 2020), was taken over by Moms 4 Liberty candidates in the last election.  They just ousted 'accepted the resignation' of their (first) Black Superintendent who assumed the role in 2021.  My friend did not want this.  She voted in this Superintendent and really likes her.  She's so upset.  It's fucking infuriating.

And my friend is definitely not running again because she cannot have her girl's HS years consumed by this fuckery of her being on the board.  I know they need people like my friend, but my friend can't sustain it after her term.  She is looking to parlay her experiences into finding a career path in how to improve education with a focus on learning disabilities, specifically dyslexia, which she has (as does DefConn).

SSDD otherwise.  It's absolutely gorgeous outside.

Is this district in the southeast end of Hamilton County?

    Yes, HSE.
  • Not a great day today. We are up at DD's to help with the boys since the nanny is on vacation this week and SIL is going out of town tomorrow. I was feeling a little sore throaty yesterday (before we left Indy). DD said if I tested negative for Covid to come on up. That is what we did. Then this morning I see two messages from two of my friends who were at our reunion this weekend that they both tested positive. I wasn't around one of them very much but definitely was the other one. I will test again this afternoon but DD and her family have all been around me for the last 24 hrs. FX that I'm still negative.

On the other hand it was fun dropping off and picking up the twins from kindergarten today.
  • Oh no @ILoveBeachMusic! I hope you’re negative!
  • Still super busy at work and feeling like this may be the new normal. Someone on our team just announced they’re leaving (internally and a good move for them) and me and our director want their role reassigned to my team and our manager is still “thinking”. And okay fine but we’re on a clock here with me going out on leave and this would be the ideal solution. I’m worried because otherwise there is no back up plan.

  • It's been a struggle here.  I believe DH's meds need to be adjusted and we see his primary on Friday.  It's been like living with a very moody teenager lately.  Eats everything and leaves a mess, lots of eye rolling and heavy sighs.  Praying we get it at a more even keel before we leave for our trip, but that is in one week.

Today he's not well.  Had a flu shot Monday evening and I think he's feeling effects of that.  Then an online event for work went to Sh&* this morning and finally got that straightened out.  Good thing I didn't have an opportunity to have a 2 martini lunch because I definitely would have joined in!

@banana468 so glad insurance covered the infusion.  I was going to mention that if you paid OOP to speed up the process, more than likely a reimbursement would be a nightmare. But yay!

  • @ILoveBeachMusic, Oh no!  I hope you continue to test negative.  The vaccines are powerful, so it's possible you'll be fine.  My neighbor had friends from out of town who stayed with her for a week in her little 750 sq ft one-bedroom.  She's fully vaccinated and the guy guest was also.  But his g/f was not because she refuses to get it.  The day after they got back home, the g/f started feeling bad and tested positive for COVID.  My friend and the woman's b/f tested themselves a few times over the next week, but neither one tested positive.

That's my anecdotal evidence that there is a decent chance you'll be fine, lol.  I sure hope so!

@MNNEBride, I hope his meds get adjusted better and that you all have a great trip.  You all deserve it with everything you all have been going through!  Hopefully he feels better tomorrow after the bad effects from the flu shot wear off.

I know it was a joke but, mmmm...martini lunches.  One of my favorite cocktails because it isn't sweet.  There used to be a bunch of restaurants locally that did 25 or 50-cent martini lunches.  But, alas, most of them have discontinued it over the last few years.  Though I never had one if I was going back to work for the day, lol.  Sometimes one beer or glass of wine if one of the bosses was indulging also, but no hard liquor has always seemed like an unspoken rule at the places I have worked.

  • I woke up with the scratchy throat today too. I'm going to do a test tonight. I'm supposed to go to the office tomorrow, but I might stay home just out of caution even if it is negative. MIL is here, getting in the way and being annoying while I'm trying to work. I'm impatient that she's just hanging around in the way anyway, but my patience is even shorter when I don't feel good.

So today can go to hell, I guess.

Not medical insurance.  But I had to pay 100% OOP for a new roof when that tornado ripped some of it off.

I did not have time to wait months for their check, while there is a gaping hole to the sky in one of the bedrooms, lol.

Sometimes you have to do what you have to do for emergencies!  But it does make it longer and more annoying to then have to claw the money back from insurance.  No matter what kind of insurance it is.

    ----------------------------------

As it turned out, they only gave me a partial payment at first.  I had to send them proof I'd already paid the whole thing before they would send me the rest.  Which was so dumb.  The work had already been done when they sent me their settlement offer.  I could have sent them the proof right away, if they'd just told me they wanted it.

Though I was side-eying they needed the proof at all.  My roof was damaged.  They were the ones who came up with a number to cover my damages, that was fair and I agreed with.  What difference does it make what I did with the money?  It's MY money for MY damages.

One of these days I need to ask that question to my insurance agent.  In this case, it didn't matter because replacing the roof was exactly what I did with the money.  But if God forbid one of my properties ever burnt down, I would never rebuild it.  I'd clear the debris and sell the lot.   I'd expect to be given a check for the full value of the policy.  But this experience makes me worried that's not how it works.

  • @ILoveBeachMusic I hope it is negative too!

I had a scratchy through Thursday and Friday, but it was more just being really really thirsty than sore.  And then nothing came of it.  Hopefully that is you!

Last night was Hubby's birthday, but he decided to book tutoring on it so we didn't really celebrate too much.  My nephew just got a cellphone this year and took the time to text to wish him a happy birthday.  His older brother didn't .... and I think one nephew is smarter than the other because he knows that I'm planning to give them my old truck when I am done with it and if he sweetens me up he is more likely to be the one that gets it, lol.  Or maybe he is just a sweet boy who remembers his uncle's birthday.

It is chilly here today.  I get wanting to turn on the heat, but I am that obstinate person who refuses to turn it on until October.  I might break.  We didn't turn the AC on once this year, it was an odd year.  My utility bills have been amazing.

  • Wow!  For those of you that have Walmart+...looking at you, @CharmedPam...they just added a travel benefit through Expedia.

5% back on hotels/rental cars/activities and 2% back on airfare.

For fun, I looked at hotel prices for Cincinnati next month.  Each hotel includes how much "Walmart Cash" you get back.  It was way more than 5% back!  More like 15-25% back, depending on the property.

No such luck on flights, lol.  Those looked to be right at 2% back.

  • Someone needs to post Prudie tomorrow because I’m in an all day in person meeting. I have to behave. 😂

What?!?!  Doesn't your work understand priorities, lol.

I would normally pick up the mantle, but I am slammed at work today since I'll be out of town for over a week.  Plus leaving early and am skipping lunch.

I probably won't even have time to read/post about the Prudies (sniff, sniff).
