Hump Day

Happy Wednesday! My cold kind of spiraled...took a home test (negative) but I don't really trust home tests so I'm masking at work just in case.  Sending everyone healthy vibes..

Re: Hump Day

  • Annoyed at Delta.  The kids and I returning to Disney over spring break, and our schools always align with Passover over Easter, which is nice for Disney where most visitors around the country get off around Easter = fewer crowds the week we're going.  Even the flights, though our area has a later spring break, were low.  Crazy low, like normal non-school-break prices that I'm always so jealous people not tethered to school schedules can take advantage of.  I genuinely think Delta upcharged during Easter week by mistake, we've never flown at such a low price.

^All to say that as usual, I selected the earlier flight going, bc it's nice to get an early start, but went with an 8:30am flight coming home, instead of the 6:30 flight...why be up at 4 to race home to do a bunch of laundry?  I booked the day they came out, in early June, and since then the flight times have shifted a few times.  But last week our flight was changed to 6:30, with an 8:30 flight as well, which is exactly what it was on the day I booked.  I contacted Delta and requested we be moved to the 8:30 flight, since that's what I'd originally booked, and was told that even though the departure times were the same, since it was a new flight number, I'd have to pay the difference, which is over $500 per seat now *eye roll* so not worth it, but I don't appreciate the games they play  :s
  • @ei34 that is so weird! Airlines are such a cluster.

I'm dragging ass today. G would.not.go.to.sleep last night. Bedtime routine as normal, totally fine, then just screaming and crying for an hour. He woke up N and then they both were up until almost 1030. G was up again in the night. He went to H, but H didn't wake up (surprise, surprise...i'm bitter for sure) so I had to take him back. I'm so tired of sleep struggles and I'm out of ideas.

Last day of work today at least. G has an appointment tomorrow and we're going to take N again and then go to the Children's museum near the hospital. It's a free family day so hopefully it's not ridiculously crowded.
  • @ei34, I'd be super annoyed at Delta also.  If they are shuffling flights around anyway, why not put you all on the flight that is now leaving at 8:30am which is the original time you booked it for.

I had Southwest do something like that to me for a flight to NYC a few years ago.  My original flight was leaving around mid-day and we'd by getting to NY in the early evening.  They changed it so we'd be arriving at 11:30pm!  But at least with SW, they let me change it to whatever flights they had available that day for no additional cost.  We were able to improve it to only coming in about two hours later than what we originally had.  But then, why didn't they put me on that other flight to begin with?  Argh!

I wonder if you originally booked "mistake" pricing.  I have never been so lucky, lol.  But that happened to one of my coworkers.  He and some friends were going to Budapest.  When he went to book his flight, the first class seats were surprisingly cheap.  Not even cheap for first class, just cheap all around for that flight.  The economy seats were more expensive and a more typical fare for that kind of flight.

He hurriedly booked his tickets and then called his friends to let them know.  By the time they tried to book theirs within about 15-20 minutes, the crazy price was gone and it was back to being a lot more than the economy seats.

  • I really hate all the airlines. Everything is such a hassle for no reason. We just booked our flights to Utah for my sister's birthday last night and it's the same games. I hope our flights don't get moved around.

Nothing much else going on. It's overcast and glum today, but I don't think it's going to rain. I'm not complaining though, it's still lovely mid 70s. I get to take the dog to the vet today, so I'm already worried about my wallet. She's not cheap.
  • I gained 6.5 lbs while I was on vacation.  Boo!  Overall, I avoided carbs and limited my alcohol intake as compared to a typical vacation.  Ate smaller portions for a lot of my meals also, ie stopped when I was full.  But didn't limit myself other than those things.  I regret nothing!  Lol.  So much delicious food.

But now that I'm back to my more normal healthy/lower calorie eating, that extra weight is coming off faster than it usually does.  I lost a .5 lb. my first day back and another 1.5 lbs. since yesterday.  Hopefully that continues and I'll be back to my pre-vacation weight within a couple weeks.

While I was gone, my boss e-mailed his approval for me to WFH two days/week starting next week.  I requested Mondays and Wednesdays as my two days and he was fine with that.  Woo hoo!  I can't wait!  I already put a reminder on my calendar to take my work laptop home on Friday, lol.

WFH Mondays is especially going to be the BEST!  I always throw my normal sleep schedule out the window on the weekends.  So by the time Sunday night comes, I'm not tired and go to bed too late.  WFH will give me almost one extra hour of sleep on Mon. mornings.

  • Work is annoying today. My manager is slow playing some things that we need to move fast on. And the slow moving is only going to affect me and make things worse for me later on. And he’s annoyed I asked about it- but I’m out of here in less than 4 months and we need to know if we’re hiring someone, or if I need to find my own replacement or if we’re just winging it.
  • Was home yesterday because BK has pink eye and I have early - i'm not contagious anymore because early but BK might be. Kept her home again today in case.

Hoping all clears up quick as this week is just fkn busy. *sigh*

  • Crazy @ei34! I hate all the flight changes that happen.
i love my wfh days @short+sassy, for that reason.  I can get up later.  No shower.  No face application.  No one cares what I look like! To be fair, no one probably cares what I look like at work either.
I’m bummed.  I went on a few dates with a guy from bumble the last few weeks, thought we hit it off but he told me yesterday he was pursuing someone he had more of a connection with.  I think intellectually we had a connection but not romantically and tbh I was just hoping that would build up.  I’m not a huge flirt or show emotions right away. The guy checked ALL my boxes so it was a letdown.  Back to the drawing board.  Do people meet IRL anymore?
Other than that, I put on my humidifier on last night and woke up to the water spilling EVERYwhere.  There must have been a crack in the base. I found a good replacement on amazon but have to wait till Friday now.

  • More "fun" times in New Orleans.

It's been an extremely dry summer, rain-wise.  Normally, there is a short summer shower almost every afternoon.  There has been almost none of that this year.

Which brings us to the impeding crisis.  The MS River is too low, which is causing salt water intrusion.  Most of the cities along the river, including NOLA, get their water supply from there.  Cities further south of us have already had their water supply contaminated.  And the saltwater will be hitting here on October 13th.

The Army Corps of Engineers has plans to dump millions of gallons of water into the holding tanks to try and dilute the salt so that the water is still safe to use and drink.  But we shall see.

People have lost their minds and have already been clearing out stores of their bottled water supply.  Some stores have turned evil and started charging exorbitant prices.

I've been thinking to myself, "Y'all need to calm down."  It's about to suck.  I agree.  But this isn't a hurricane or weather event.  Bottled water, as much as we want, can be trucked down to us just fine.  And for months, if need be.

Despite that, my H was worried and we looked at large water storage containers.  So much more expensive than I thought.  Apparently, you can't just get any container to store water and keep it potable.  It has to be a food grade container.  The cheapest one I found was $80 for 30 gallons.

Now that I'm thinking about it, it would probably be a good idea to get one of the non-potable ones for things like baths.  There was a 55-gallon one of those for $28.

  • i'm so annoyed at Amazon. I ordered a cute pumpkin pillow cover. It arrived Monday but in the wrong pattern. I returned it then placed another order for the pumpkin one. It arrived a few minutes and guess what? They sent the same one as before! I don't really decorate for Halloween but rather for fall. The cover the sent twice was a ghost/Boo cover. So I am returning it and just ordered a cover from Pottery Ball. Not as cute as the pumpkin one but oh well.

H is working on refinishing a dresser for DD. He has had it for months but it was too hot to work on during the summer (he does this in our garage). I thought I had a Y board meeting tonight but it is tomorrow. I'm all dressed up (and made up) with no place to go LOL!

Good luck @short+sassy with the water situation. I didn't think there were any places south of NOLA! Guess I should brush up on my geograpy. Sorry about the guy @CharmedPam. I've said more than once I don't think I would suffer today's dating scene. I know DS2 has trouble meeting people and has pretty much given up. So unless his friends fix him up I doubt he'll find anyone.
  • @ILoveBeachMusic, yeah!  NOLA is about 60 miles from the Gulf of Mexico.  Though it's mostly small, country towns down river.  And some of that distance is swampy marsh land, rather than solid land.

  • I have one on the top of my foot @levioosa and it’s the worst! It often gets itchy during the night too and I can’t sleep.
i had no idea rhey were going through that @short+sassy
Yes @ILoveBeachMusic, it’s brutal out there. I don’t blame him. I hate dating apps but aside from girls night out (where no one approaches you) I don’t go IN public but for those dates. Lol.

  • Nothing much to report.  I just looked at my movie theatre schedule and had to make an excel spreadsheet with all of the older movies I want to see that only show 1-2 times, plus newer movies, so I can get tickets to all the things.  This theatre lets you have as many on hold as you want, but you can only buy 2/day.  Going to see the original The Mummy tomorrow and I am so excited about it.

    Otherwise, SSDD.
