Wedding Woes

Monday

Weekend was good, how was everyone's?

Re: Monday

  • My parents were in all weekend and it was really nice! We did sports class and out for breakfast Saturday, then just a chill day playing at the park and watching movies. Sunday we hung around all morning and had our nephew's baptism yesterday afternoon. Mom and dad are babysitting the boys today since they dont' have school and heading home when H and I get back from work. Loving the cooler weather and need to go get pumpkins and mums this week!
  • oh and the boys finally decided on Halloween costumes. We're going to have Captain America and a "halloween monkey" (N calls our neighbors giant scary blow-up skeleton thing a halloween monkey) so that should be fun to find, lol.
  • I had a good weekend too.  Saturday was an equestrian fest, matinee show to “little shop of horrors” and dinner out afterwards. I was home by 7, and just chilling at home watching TV. My brother texted me at 10:30.  You up?
This is never good.  My brother just doesn’t just text out of the blue. But to my surprise it was nothing bad.  He actually called to tell me that he wanted me to know he appreciates how I am with his kids.  When I come over, I do things with them and play and bring crafts.  Everyone else, grandparents and his SIL feels the need to govern and correct.  But he loves how I am with them. Awww. I don’t feel it IS my job to govern and correct. If I wanted to do that, I would have had my own!
Sunday was a bleh.  I mowed my lawn but found out I apparently have an apple tree in my yard? Apples were on the ground everywhere. I’ve been here since 2015 -and this year noticed some berries on one tree this summer and apparently apples on my backyard one.  Which makes mowing, especially unaware of them, fun.
Kids will love the pumpkin patch @Casadena

  • Weekend was good.  I didn't do anything except some household chores and going to see my mother.

The F1 race was unhinged this weekend.  It was fun to watch, but I'm glad no one was seriously hurt.  They had to treat a handful of drivers for heat exhaustion.
  • Really horrified to see the news on Saturday and Sunday, a terrible day for Israel and of course will be terrible for so many Palestinians who played no part in the attacks. Thinking of all the people I know with family there many of whom have been called up to fight.
  • Hello!  Good afternoon!

Weekend was pretty good.  Friday night we went out for our friend's bday.  There was a lot of tequila, LOL.  But we had so much fun.  Our friend is Ukrainian and some of the other people there were also Ukrainian as well.  I asked a couple of them about their family that are still over there and just what daily life is like for their family there and also for them being over here.  It was an interesting and insightful conversation.

The Israel attack coming the next morning on the heels of those conversations felt surreal.  I cannot stop thinking about the ordinary citizens who are caught in the crossfire of the terrorism and the response to the attacks.  I know the politics are complicated and so nuanced and I don't even know 1/10th of what I should about it all, but the information, media, and all the other info coming out is just heart-wrenching and horrifying.

Saturday, we got up and got some stuff done around the house.  We headed out to our friend's in the afternoon to hang out at their new house.  They found an amazing piece of property in the country and the house is just perfect for them.  We had a lot of fun hanging out even though it was pretty chilly.  I was glad I brought a hat and jacket with me.  We started watching the Beckham documentary after we got home and it is soo... good.

Sunday, we got up and ran to the store.  Only FIL came over for football.  I made a really good cheesy bacon potato soup.  It was a very relaxing day.

DH is traveling this week.  SSDD otherwise.
  • Off today for Columbus Day/Indigenous People’s Day, just in from the pumpkin patch, it was a lot
of fun. Got all of my grading/class work done Friday night so the weekend was a wonderful mix of family time and house cleaning.  Got all the warm weather clothes put away and the cold weather clothes out, just in time as it’s been nice and crisp-bordering-on-chilly the last few days.  (My fave weather so I’m not complaining!) ExH didn’t end up taking the kids (he’s allegedly in Vegas?) but I hope the kids enjoyed themselves.

@CharmedPam your nephews and brother are blessed to have you in their lives
  • @Casadena, "Halloween monkey" is so funny.  Little kids often have such a neat perspective on the world because they haven't learned something differently yet.

@CharmedPam, What a nice compliment from your brother!  It's your job to be the fun aunt.

The movie night at my friend's house was a lot of fun!  There was a lot of conversation before the movie.  Her boyfriend is a firefighter and works wacky hours, so I hardly ever see him.  But he was there and we had a long chit-chat about bourbon because he is an aficionado.  People kept quiet throughout the movie, I had been a little worried about that.  After the movie, her b/f and my H went back home.  The rest of us women stayed up for hours with cocktails and swapping stories.  She had a new friend that came and I especially enjoyed her company.

Though I felt bad for my friend.  She LOVES to throw parties and goes all out with them.  She kept the guest list on the shorter side because there are only so many people who will fit in her backyard with chairs.  Almost everyone she invited who RSVP'ed "yes" earlier in the week, sent her declining texts on Friday so there ended up being only 6 of us, including her.  She had a painting party a couple months ago and everyone was a "no show", except me.  I know it's bumming her out and hurting her feelings.  Though usually her parties are very well attended.  I'm not sure what was going on with the last two that people were being so flaky.

  • We got home from our trip on 9/30 and tested positive for Covid 10/1.  We both were prescribed Paxlovid for 5 days.  I worked 2 half days but took PTO the rest of the time.  We were just wiped out with extreme fatigue.  We both have "Cruise Cough" but that seems to be getting better.  We retested yesterday and I'm negative but DH is still positive.  He's actually feeling better than I am.  I've reschedule a bunch of stuff he had this week.  I'm feeling about 75% but am pushing through work and a few other things I have this week.  There may be some lunch break napping!

  • @ei34 that’s annoying! Abandoning responsibilities like that! Does he need a pre filled calendar with his dates on them?

  • @MNNEBride, I hope you all at least had fun on the cruise!  At least the positive tests and feeling cruddy were after you all got back.  I hope you are feeling better soon and glad to your H already is, even if he is still testing positive.

  • Off today for Canadian thanksgiving.  It was lovely, got lots of stuff done around the house.  My cousin is visiting from the Netherlands in a few weeks, so I wanted to get some things done around the house to make it nicer for when she comes.  I am very excited to see her, it has been so long.  We had dinner with the in-laws yesterday as well which was nice.  Not looking forward to being back to work tomorrow, lol!

  • You need the next day off for shopping @kerbohl. American’s at least did that part right.
