Wedding Woes

Monday

Weekend was great. Fall festival at the boys school, hung at home in the afternoon. Yesterday i took the boys on an "adventure" to target, costco and the library with H studied and then we had family pictures. Was nice to have a chill weekend with just the 4 of us :)

Re: Monday

  • Some progress this weekend.  Now that I can WFH two days/week, I really need to get a desk, monitor, and chair.  But since I'm (hopefully) moving next year AND the WFH is a trial basis, I don't want to be spending much money.  I knew I had a folding chair with padding, but hadn't seen it lately.  My H found it, yay.  I carefully selected a couple likely garage sales to go to and I found a small desk for $15.  It's an ugly army green, but it's solid wood and we were going to Home Depot anyway so I picked up a turquoise color and am going to repaint it.  Two down!  Now just the monitor to go.  I went to Goodwill on Friday and they had monitors.  But they were really scratched up and $40!  I don't think so.  The search continues.

I also stopped at Walmart and picked up some prescriptions and a few groceries.  I fill a lot of prescriptions so it is always an "adventure".  It's always something.  Like they were supposed to be ready last Friday, but it took 5 days to get one in.  They inexplicably didn't have one of them ready, but the guy was really nice and got it ready for me in a few minutes.  I'm just glad I noticed it was missing before I left!  I hate making multiple trips.  It's a good month when I only have one prescription trip, lol.

On Sunday, my friend and I made an impromptu decision to go get brunch.  The restaurant we went to had a mimosa flight that included four different flavors!  Yum!  Watermelon/Pomegranate, Peach/Pineapple, OJ, and something with lavender.  I got two appetizers for my entree.  Candy bacon and fried green tomatoes with bacon jam and remoulade sauce.  Both of them were delicious and I'm having the leftovers for lunch today.

  • All three weekends ^sound great ☺️

Saturday it obviously poured all day again, but sunny was cool and sunny. Fall softball season wrapped up.  ExH agreed to see the kids for a few hours on Sunday, I had to drive both ways which was annoying but it was nice to have a few hours, i was able to help my dad with a few things around their house.  Overall a good mix of getting things accomplished, with some down time.
  • Good morning!  I had a pretty great weekend. DefConn is on fall break, so no school stuff for 2 weeks.  WAHOO!

Friday, we took DefConn for a haircut.  He's had a mullet for the last 2 years (I literally hated it) and since he's been doing club wrestling and also, had a nasty case of impetigo on his ear that kept getting irritated by his hair, he decided to cut it off.  His hair has never been shorter in his life.  We went to Costco after that and then hung out at home the rest of the night.

Saturday, we went to the very rainy and muddy pumpkin patch.  It drizzled on us off and on.  We had fun and got some cool pumpkins.  After we got home, DH and I cleaned house.  FIL took DefConn for the night and BIL was at his parent's house, so we had a date night and just really enjoyed the hell out of each other's company.  Our dinner was just so-so, which was disappointing.

Sunday, we got up early and finished house stuff.  I made a huge batch of chicken corn chowder for football.  The rest of the afternoon was football watching.

2 recs: the Beckham doc on Netflix.  It was just so good.  He and Victoria are really engaging, funny, and I think they provided a lot of vulnerability.  Also, Fisher Stevens did a great job as director.

Sasheer Zamata's stand-up special on YouTube.  She's so freaking funny.

I just have to make it to Thursday, and then I'm off Friday through the following week.  We head to TX a week from tomorrow.
  • Saturday was SO WET.  We had Chiquita's soccer game in the afternoon and DH was nicely asked to volunteer our EZ up so I watched in my raincoat under an umbrella.  He watched from the dugout of a nearby softball field because his foot has another infection so he could keep his foot elevated while observing.

We chilled for the early evening, I cleaned a bit and had an easy dinner of fish Chiquita caught and was frozen over the summer.  Yesterday was Confirmation class for Chiquita, mass, and Chiquito's soccer game.  He did GREAT in goal and the score was a tie game.  After it I took the kids grocery shopping and came home to make dinner.

This is one of those autumn "you're a parent and not going to be home after work" weeks so I'm glad the dinner I made was a giant pot of pasta e ceci that will fill us for days.
  • Sounds like you got some deals @short+sassy! Our company pays for equipment like monitors and printers and all that, but we’d also have to fund our own furniture. I’m surprised they didn’t give you a monitor? And I hear you on the pharmacy thing.  Last time I picked up my meds, the line both drive thru and inside was 40 minutes long.  ONE pharmacist going back and forth in the lines, and one other pharmacist doing scripts on duty.  People were FUMING.  It’s been like that the last fee times I’ve picked up, but I heard there IS a pharmacist shortage that will only get worse.  Not sure moving pharmacies will help.

Yikes yikes yikes on that marriage @levioosa. That’s the definition of what a red flag would be.

oh speaking of documentaries, I logged into hulu and it suggested “monster inside: America’s most extreme haunted house” about the McKamey Manor.  I literally could not stop watching.  It is unbelievable that this sadistic man was not shut down prior to closing on his own. He has major issues (a war vet) and something was not right with him - yet he got away with what he did for YEARS.  It’s so crazy.

  • @VarunaTT, glad to hear the office grump is moving on!

@CharmedPam, your brews tour sounds amazing!  It does sound more fun with a smaller group of people.

I think my work is more like, "You all dragged us kicking and screaming for a WFH option.  You have one, now you're on your own for equipment and supplies."

They said they won't pay for any supplies, including paper (eyeroll).

The client I work for does supply me with a laptop.  It's the same computer I use at the office.  But if I was working for a different client, I'd have to use my own computer for WFH.

  • My company is like yours @short+sassy. We are allowed to work from home but they paid for offices in person, if we want equipment we paid for we have to go in an use it. Which I honestly don’t think is unfair.

And still on the subject of work I had just a terrible meeting last week, one dude was just in a bad mood and not listening and really angry and I was just quite shaken tbh. We had a follow up meeting today that went very well. He didn’t apologize and he won’t, but he was particularly professional and other people liked what I’m doing so that was nice.

Saw the Taylor swift movie Sunday and it was such a great experience. I didn’t see the tour in person and I would go back and watch the movie again on the big screen. And such a fun crowd, dancing and singing and handing out friendship bracelets
  • Chik-fil-a doesn't have spicy chicken tenders anymore. I'm heartbroken.

  • Weekend was good but rainy. I was in Chicago so I had lots of indoor time with the grandsons. DD is coming here tomorrow. She and her high school BFF are going to the John Meyer concert. After working out this morning, I have been cleaning the rest of the day. I am now officially exhausted and sore.

We have been having a lot of trouble with the dog. He is a jumper (I think he is part mountain goat. Well he has learned to jump up on the window seat next to our kitchen table and get on the table. I have never had a dog do this before. We tell him no and use the sonic beeper (which at times doesn't seem to phase him) or bitter apple (which again doesn't really seem to bother him). Any words of wisdom from other pet owners?
