Wedding Woes

Set a timer? Change your WiFi pw? Go outside and touch grass?

Dear Prudence,

Participating in the comments section of websites is taking up more and more of my time. I am not sure if it is social isolation or what, but every day I spend an hour reading and responding to stories online. Most websites require you to log in to receive content, but that also allows commentary to happen. I need help because this activity is a source of stress and frustration that I would like to remove from my life. Thoughts?

Stop doing it.  They suck you in and if you're spending so much time you're likely doing it because it's emotionally charged.  Find a new hobby.
  • Sounds like LW can’t just stop doing it. So they need a plan; set a time, use a lock down browser, log out of the websites change the password and don’t log back in.
  • I am sometimes a Reddit fanatic.  When I enjoy it, I enjoy it and do not have gult.  That's my entertainment downtime.  But sometimes I find myself getting too entrenched or angry about things.  That is always my cue to stop going there for 1-2 weeks.

Not quite the same as the LW.  But something they could try.  Give themselves a 1-week break and don't log in.  They might find they don't miss it anyway after a few days.
