Tuesday Hump Day

Yes I'm leaning into the short week in these discussion titles  :D

Re: Tuesday Hump Day

  • Students just left, parent/teacher conferences begin at 12:30. Shouldn't be too bad.
Making the sweet potatoes tonight after counseling, but saving the other stuff for tomorrow night.
  • This is actually my Friday since I’m taking the rest of the week off. M is going to daycare tomorrow so I’m planning to sleep, run exactly two errands, do laundry, and more sleep.
  • I’m OK with that! Lol
I got no sleep last night.  Ugh. I’m trying not to use ambien on nights where I don’t need to go into the office so this will be the routine for me all this week.  I did, however buy something from old navy at 12:30 a.m and it’s already shipped this morning! They had a “tall” blazer on sale for $30. I need a blazer once a year for our annual conference and they never have the arm length I need. Lets see if their tall’s fit my long arms! The return policy is pretty easy if it doesn’t.

  • I’ve been here an hour and I’m ready to vacate the premises lol. My motivation for this week is at 0%

I’m interested in hearing what everyone is planning on making for thanksgiving! Whose family does potluck vs you being the sole host?

We are going over to the in-laws. This year we convinced them to scale back on MIL cooking and she’s just doing the turkey and they’re buying BBQ ribs (I dunno, but I won’t complain, ha) and rolls. I’m making a salad, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, roasted carrots and maybe Mac n cheese. So basically still hosting lol. I think SIL is bringing a charcuterie board and I have no idea what SIL B is making because she’s treating it like a big secret (eye roll). SIL C usually makes a dessert.

Actually, I have a question. I’m making honey roasted garlic carrots. I’m thinking of adding goat cheese. What does WW think of the recipe with goat cheese added? I’ve made these carrots before as written and they were pretty good. Sorry if the picture is huge. On mobile.

  • Also @kerbohl and @MissKittyDanger, I’ll be around Thursday.  I’m the grinch of Thanksgiving.  There’s not one thing I like about it and I find it the most over rated holdiay.  I have to stop telling people I’m doing nothing for it, because I keep getting invites.  No.  I want to do nothing! My friend goes “I’m so sad you’re alone for Thanksgiving”.  But why aren’t you sad the other 364 days?

  • I'm thinking about taking tomorrow and Friday off, but I need to talk to Bossman first and he's not here until tomorrow.  Yesterday was a rough day here, so I'm glad he's not here, I needed the break.

Going to make Thanksgiving with mom, even if it's just for a little bit.  We have some family coming in, so that'll be okay.  Otherwise, just SSDD here.
  • I think goat cheese would be delicious with that @levioosa
  • I feel very stressed and overwhelmed at all the Black Friday shopping “deals”. Like I can’t tell what’s a good deal and when to purchase something. Is now good, will Friday be better?? So many questions!

I’m seeing a lot sales from advertised companies I buy from the same year round… Charlotte Tilbury is the only one offering 30% off SOME items and she never does a sale.  Or, rarely does one with 30% off. Everything else is…. Meh.
Edit; I have seen some that end tomorrow which also makes me wonder if something better is coming up on Friday? @charlotte989875

  • I'm off today but back to work tomorrow.  We had Chiquita's student-led conference this morning, a meeting with the school security who were VERY respectful of our situation, the need for changes and requirement to keep Chiquita safe.  So far we are already happy with one new solution implemented.   Now we're hunkering down in the hospital for a few hours while she gets infused so her colon is ready for turkey and stuffing.

Thanksgiving menu is at our house:
    -cheese and crackers
    -shrimp cocktail
-puff pastry baked with brie, cranberry sauce, rosemary and pecans

    Dinner
    -spatchcocked turkey
    -mashed potatoes
    -gravy
-sweet potato crack (baked with a brown sugar pecan mix on top)
    -green bean casserole
    -roasted brussels sprouts
    -salad
    -MIL is bringing stuffing

    Dessert
    -pumpkin pie
    -apple pie

I'm hoping to get a head start and make pie and maybe gravy tonight.
  • @levioosa, usually my H and I (mostly my H) make our whole Thanksgiving meal.  But since it's just us and possible a couple friends stopping by, we keep it simple.

Whole turkey, lots of stuffing (it's our favorite thing on the table), mashed potatoes with gravy.  My H also makes corn, which I don't like.  I make green beans, sometimes the casserole version but usually not.  He doesn't like either, lol.  Our single neighbor friend usually comes over and will bring 1-2 sides and dessert.

But this year we are driving to Nashville on Thanksgiving day so our only "preparation" is hopefully finding a delish restaurant and ordering something off the menu, lol.  And I'm probably not choosing anything Thanksgiving related.  We'll probably make stuffing when we come back.

I am biased because I think goat cheese adds good flavor to almost everything.  In the case of your carrots dish, I think that cheese will give a nice balance of tart to the sweetness.

@banana468, that puff pastry sounds extra good!

  • I’m coming to your house for thanksgiving @banana468

@short+sassy that sounds tasty! I hope you have a safe drive!

@charlotte989875 I started looking at prices leading up to thanksgiving because the past few years I’ve noticed a bs increase right before Black Friday and then they’ll say “40+% off!” But when I compare it to the screenshots I took before, nope, it’s still the same price. They just artificially inflated it right before the holiday banking on that sense of urgency to purchase which happens on BF. I’ve noticed Amazon is the worst with this.

  • We are hosting and our menu is:

    roast turkey
    mashed potatoes
    gravy
    green bean casserole
corn (because DH doesn't like green bean casserole)
    stuffing
    dinner rolls
    pear salad

    apple pie
    pumpkin pie

Mom will bring pear salad & brother will provide ice cream & whipped cream for pies.  I'll bake pies & rolls tomorrow afternoon.  We are doing an evening meal so the turkey won't have to go in before the sun is up.

  • @levioosa thanks for the confidence!

Chiquita can't do corn due to the UC so we're grateful to move to the GB casserole.  It's also the easiest thing to do since it's dump and swirl.

I definitely feel like "Black Friday" sales have largely become bs.

When it starts becoming a different "pre-Black Friday" sale every few days throughout November, I am skeptical and it all starts looking like sales hype.

If we keep going like this, the real Black Friday will become "pre-Cyber Monday" sales.  And Black Friday sales will start on Nov. 1st, lol.

  • Had my annual shopping day with girlfriends. I finished just about all my shopping. I'm sure there will be a few things I forgot. I came home and baked pumpkin pies. So we will have: smoked salmon, brie in puff pastry with raspberry jam and almonds, turkey, sweet potato casserole, dressing and gravy, green beans, rolls and cranberry salad. No GB casserole just steamed with a garlic/parsley/olive oil dressing. My sweet potato casserole which was my aunt's recipe is more like a dessert than a side.
  • All this food talk ... you are all going to feast!  I vote for the goat cheese!
I hope you all have a fantastic Thanksgiving tomorrow, whether it is with family or enjoying your own company :)
