How much is typical to spend on a close friend’s wedding gift if you’re also throwing (+paying for) her bridal shower?

    Honestly?  Hosting a shower on her behalf is already a very generous gift.  I would hope a "close friend" would realize this. 
    No one can really answer this question for you as it depends on the relationship you have with this friend.  How was this shower approached?  Did you volunteer to do it?  My daughter offered to host a shower for a friend but did tell the bride it would be her honor to "gift her the shower". 
    A heartfelt note in a  card and perhaps a small personal gift seems appropriate.

    I think it also depends on your budget. I spend more on close friends' children's wedding than other weddings. I co-hosted a shower for a close friend's daughter but also gave her a gift because it was within my budget.
