Wedding flowers 6 days before wedding

Hi. I’m hoping to hear from some florists or anyone who has had experience in receiving flowers very early for an event.  We are ordering my daughters wedding flowers from Sam’s.  Because she is getting married over a holiday week, it’s not possible to have the flowers and greenery delivered 2-3 days before the event as is suggested.  She is getting married on a Thursday, and our only options are the Friday before or the day before the ceremony.  I can’t imagine risking the day before delivery as what would we do with no flowers?  However, I am so worried that they won’t stay alive for 6 days.

Has anyone had any experience with flowers and also greenery being kept fresh that long?  She is getting married in January, so the temperature should be cool, and we have a dark cold garage that we can store them in.

Thank you for any and all advice.

Re: Wedding flowers 6 days before wedding

  • Having ordered flowers from Sam's before for my parent's Anniversary and End of year teacher gifts and a few other events...  A lot has to do with how you keep them in that time but also your experience with flowers.  Honestly, I wouldn't risk six days out for a wedding if you aren't personally experienced in handling flowers and bringing them back to life after being shipped because you can do it, but it's going to take a lot of handling know-how (Some of the flowers I've gotten there were good for 2-3 days TOPS others like the ones I get for teacher gifts last weeks so happily a repeat customer for those that time of year).  Floral Design Institute's Youtube page is one of the best out there along with Bloomsybox for basic how-to's..  You're going to need to go get some GREAT snippers from Home Depot/Menard's/Garden Center to cut all the stems along with needing some cleaned/sanitized 2-gallon buckets to put everything into..

I'd instead opt to keep the budget the same, give the bouq/corsage/bout list to a local florist/grocery florist, and let them run with the colors your daughter is using.  There's a time and a place to use the big box for event flowers, just the way the calendar works out this year probably isn't it.
