Choosing ceremony and reception venue

we have currently narrowed down our venue choices to 2.  we are going to look at a third ( San Diego Safari Park ).  we are having difficulty choosing between the two.  Both are good options for us, and we are looking for advice. Neither one of us had the aha moment. But neither one of us are aha people.

Our background : we like wine, Disney, San Diego zoo, hiking and running.    Our top two choices are currently the Dana at Mission Bay and the Disneyland hotel. Both receptions would be ballrooms of the Dana has some windows and opens to outdoor space where you can see the bay. This ceremony site would be obviously by the bay.

At Disneyland, the ceremony site would be also outdoors at the rose Court garden, followed by a ballroom reception, as were too big for their really gorgeous window.

both on site-coordinators are organized and have good attention to detail.  The Dana is cheaper, but both are affordable for us. Both have many hotels nearby, as probably 1/3 of our guests are coming from out of town.

both would be good options with different vibes and we like both. We are slightly more resistant to Disney as a lot of our family and friends expect us to have that.

appreciate thoughts on how to make the final choice between two excellent venues, that we both like.

Re: Choosing ceremony and reception venue

  • I would go with the option that's easiest on guests.
  • First - make sure you've done your due diligence, read over contracts, add-on fees (this can double or triple the cost!), guest parking, write out 100% of the names you plan to invite and add it up as-if 100% will show, make sure after all those the venue is still within your budget.

Also, as banana mentioned - which is easier for your guests?  Especially those who may have mobility issues (even if everyone is healthy in the guest list - it happens - someone sprains an ankle, has a surgery, light duty from pregnancy, etc. or they keep their needs quiet because they don't want to burden anyone) or location in proximity to the majority of your guest list.

If you've done all the due diligence ahead of time, the venue is large enough for 100% of everyone invited and your budget, simply "flip a coin, you can't go wrong!"
