Vegetarian Option on Menu

On my RSVP cards I put beef and chicken as meal choices but also asked guests to include dietary restrictions where, if they designated themselves as vegetarian/vegan would put themselves into the silent vegan option. I am wondering whether I should include this option on the printed menu. My thought is that putting down the entree on the menu is nice so that people are aware that they are actually getting a dish to their dietary specifications, but I don't want to offend anyone who "didn't know it was an option."
Thoughts?

If I understand your post correctly, you are giving people a vegetarian option by asking them to specify any dietary restrictions. So everyone who doesn't eat meat would list "vegetarian," "vegan," or something like that. In this case, I would put the vegan entree on the menu. It would be very confusing to your vegetarian guests if you don't, and the people who checked beef or chicken picked what they wanted, anyway. Sure, some chicken eaters might be bummed if the vegan dish looks more delicious, but this could happen no matter what. I've been to plenty of functions where I ordered the fish or whatever, and saw that the steak looked way better. They will get over it.
  • Is there a reason you don't want to list the vegan option on your response card? DD put three options which included the vegetarian option. We did ask for other restrictions (such as gluten free) to be sent to us directly.
  • It costs more on the caterer end
  • It costs more on the caterer end
Lesson learned: Spend more to ensure that things are clear to your guests.  It can make sense to save money but consider the time you're taking on the issue.

I agree you should have it on the menu card and in addition, add it to your wedding website if you have one as an FAQ so they can understand the meal selection option.
