Closet Questions!

We have a small closet in the master bedroom that came with wire shelving. Some of it has fallen apart and we’re looking for a better way to organize it but I have no idea where to start. I don’t have the dimensions but it’s fairly small; I can walk in and move around in there, but that’s about it. It has rods on two sides then the white shelving underneath.

Any ideas on how to start rearranging or new shelving to make it more efficient?

Re: Closet Questions!

  • I would look into having a custom closet system done. DD did that for their closet and is so happy they did. They had a weirdly shaped closet with strange angles. She felt it was well worth the money. I'm sure there are different levels of the organization systems that can be customized.

  • I’m designing a walk in soon for my room too! Have you checked Ikea? Maybe google closet organizing systems in walmart com or amazon? I’m going simple.  Rods and shelves so I’m of no help.

  • Look online for a free closet design tool like this:

You wouldn't need to buy their products but it would give you ideas of what to do.

  • We ended up going to the container store and designing ours. It wasn't cheap, but our closet is pretty large and I wanted some extras.

It was really easy and turned out really nice. They removed the old stuff and did all the installation while we were moving, so I was able to unpack clothes right into the new closet.
  • Amazon is great for inspirational ideas on organization, including for closets.

Maybe instead of shelving, those organizers that look like boxes?  They have some flexibility because they can be stacked as high or wide as there is room.

I use something like that, except the boxes are made from thick wire, for a problematic bathroom pantry.  Because it's wire pieces that connect together, instead of already built boxes, it's even more flexible.

I only have one bathroom and it's extremely small.  But there is a pantry built into one of the walls.  However, it was almost dysfunctional for what I wanted to use it for.  It was made to store towels and put a hamper on the bottom.  But I wanted to use it to store a whole bunch of smaller items, like make-up and toiletries.  It's also an old pantry that doesn't have standard dimensions and an annoying layout where the doors are a few inches more narrow than the interior.  Most options for what I was looking for were too wide.

The wire boxes ended up fitting through the door, barely.  But I could have put the wire pieces together while they were inside the pantry if I'd had to, lol.  That was my back-up plan!

In the bottom hamper part which was a high open space, I was able to put in three of those boxes.  I have exponentially more room to store things now that I can better utilize all that empty space.
