Rainy and dreary here but glad to be back at work, the swelling is way down.

Busy work week here but nothing major to report. Having drinks with a friend on Friday night and looking forward to it. Ordered some new running shoes so really have no excuse anymore to not work out. Excited to get back on that wagon!

We had big storms last night, H and I were up somehow the boys slept through! Today is Muffins with Mom at daycare then it’s MILs birthday. We’re doing dinner at their house and hoping M falls asleep on the ride home!

OMG y'all, last night was ridic.  Everything ended up fine, but story time...

TL;DR: FIL went missing for a few hours last night, but he's fine and it was terrible miscommunication.   

The kiddo called after dinner to chat with DH about relationship troubles.  DH had to give him some pretty harsh truths about his options if it doesn't work out with GF and the baby is his.  He ended up going to FIL's house from GF's apartment to have a 'time out' for the evening.  Nothing exactly new from those two, but it's still stressful AF every time.   

A little after 9, the kiddo calls and asks FIL is at our house.  He wasn't. 

FIL had gone to do a FB marketplace transaction an hour away.  The kiddo talked to him at 6 and he was in the area of the meet-up, which shouldn't have taken more than 15-20 min at most.  He got concerned when he wasn't home at 9 and wasn't answering his calls.  So we're all in immediate panic mode.  We tried and tried to call with no answer, and then started calling around to hospitals, the kiddo called the PD in the town FIL was in.  We got nothing.  We tried to hack his e-mail and his FB to figure out who he'd met and where.  We ended up calling non-emergency after he was missing for essentially 4-5 hours because we didn't know what to do.  We also reached out to his brother because his security question for his e-mail didn't make sense to us.  As a sheriff is in the driveway, FIL's brother had him on the phone.  Turns out, FIL had stopped at his best friend's house who lives not far off the route he was driving back from the meet-up and left his phone in the car.  I think none of us thought of this option because in the last couple of years, FIL and his BFF have been running hot and cold, and we never know where he's at with him.   

Poor DH was having a panic attack, but he rallied so hard and collected himself to start doing something, which was trying to access FIL's email and he was taking notes as we were making calls.  

DefConn was a freaking rockstar.   He started calling hospitals while DH and I were looking up other info.  He put on his deepest voice possible and was all, "Yes, ma'am" and "thank you so much' and whatnot.  It's absolutely insane, amazing, fills you with pride, and breaks your heart at the same time to see your kid doing grown stuff and handling a 'crisis' like a champ.  I dropped him off at school late today since we were all up well past our bedtime. 

The kiddo was also apologetic that he got everyone worried.  We reassured him that acting on your spidey senses in those situations is so important because time is crucial if something truly is wrong. 

Anyway, no one did anything wrong and it was kind of a comedy of errors.  DH hasn't talked to FIL yet, but I hope FIL is understanding of our concerns and not super defensive about it all.   SIL has life 360 for her family and since FIL refuses to go iPhone like the rest of us, she's going to try to convince him to join her account/circle (however that works).  Especially since he's gotten into a retirement hobby of fixing up and selling minibikes.  

Anyway...We're all exhausted today.  But really happy it turned out this way.  

What a freaking night, though.

Damn @mrsconn23 that’s a wild night. Glad it all ended fine but yikes. 

Also- totally not the point of the story but how’s kiddo doing with the GF? Is there a question the baby isn’t his? That’s all so tough.

They are super hot and cold.  He's trying to be there, but they have always had this cycle.  It's so frustrating because it's like, "you morons have a baby coming so this petty shit shouldn't matter anymore."  But y'know, they're young and immature. 

 We are pretty sure she is having his child, but they were broken up for a few weeks (I think?) when she found out she was pregnant.  We're encouraging him to establish paternity ASAP after the baby is born.

Ugh that's so stressful @mrsconn23. But what a good kid Defconn is. A few years ago my grandfather went missing in San Francisco while he was up there visiting my cousin. He still refuses to admit he was lost but he was totally lost and confused, and that's not a good place for a 88 year old lost out of towner to be. The only reason we found him so quickly was because earlier that week my cousin had taken his phone and opted into the "find my friends" and linked her and her mom's phones so they could keep an eye on him. Thank goodness for that. 

Work today. Trying to find some motivation for a work out tonight. I don't feel like doing anything, tbh. But I need to do something. Otherwise SSDD.

@mrsconn23, that's like the intro for a true crime show!  I don't blame you all for being nervous.  I'm glad your FIL is fine.  That's amazing DefConn was so cool under pressure and able to help with something so important.

Ugh!  It's repair time again.  One of our tenants called that there are some bee hives in one of the trees at the house.  Then I come home to find out our dishwasher has died.  What perfect timing since we are about to sell the house anyway //s.  Considering the old wives' tale that things come in 3s...now I'm waiting for the third thing, lol.

We found a supposedly new GE dishwasher for $150 on FB Marketplace, so we are picking that up tonight.  It is still in the box, so I'm hopeful it really is new AND works.

We have a pest control contract on the duplex with the bees.  I assumed it only covered rats/mice, but my H called and it also covers bees!  As long as they are carpenter bees and not honey bees, there is no cost for the removal.  ((Please be carpenter bees, please be carpenter bees)).  They are coming out on Thursday.

Apparently because honey bees are a protected species, they have to be treated special and that will involve a different type of company.  I'm guessing the hive is gently taken out whole and then relocated.  There's a monastery about 45 minutes from NOLA who are beekeepers and famous for their honey.  I've heard that is where unwanted, local honey bee hives go.

Yikes @mrsconn23, what a night. I’m scared to do marketplace transactions because… well, 2024.  They offer a safe place to switch at PD parking lots, so it would reeeeeeeally have to be something I want bad at an excellent price and something I can carry into my car and then house. Lol.
yay for knowing defcon can handle a crisis like that! I’d rather be over cautious than under. 

Today’s the only day to get my grass done until Friday and I already let it get bad.  I went home at lunch to do half. I LOVE living close to work.  I’ll do the other half tonight.  I did come back pretty sweaty and red faced (easily for me) but I’m fine now.  Seriously, home ownership is for the birds.  I’m also considering getting a service for the next 6 weeks… you have to use them a minimum if three times when you sign up and maybe I don’t want to deal with the cicadas../.
