Mexico pretty safe?

We're thinking of a honeymoon in Mexico but my parents seem to think it's unsafe.  Are they just paranoid?

    Like traveling certain places of the US, you've got to be a savvy traveler no matter where you go!  Research where you're going.  Know the risks, plan and prepare for them.  Parts of Mexico are probably safer than parts of the US and visa versa!

    You make a fair point, @MesmrEwe. No place is completely without risk; it's about being informed and taking reasonable precautions. A honeymoon is a special time - with some planning one could surely experience the beauty of Mexico while feeling comfortable. Best of luck to the couple as they research destinations and consider all factors carefully. Safety need not come at the total expense of adventure or cultural exchange. A balanced approach serves best.
