It's the last Monday of my school year, woo.  Weekend was nice, thank goodness I was able to get my window ACs so we've been sleeping better.  Spent a ton of time at the pool, and baked a blueberry buckle for my parents as an anniversary gift (41 years) that we dropped off by them last night.  How's everyone else?

Good Morning!  I was out last week chaperoning a Girl Scout trip to DC which was temporarily relocated to the surface of the sun.  It was fantastic with 8 adults and 14 girls and we had a blast.  I'm exhausted from the lack of sleep and ton of walking (I think 27 miles in 4 days) but would love to do it again - except the zoo which is not a great place in the heat.  We kayaked, saw the Air and Space Museum, Natural History Museum, the White House, Capital, Library of Congress, Spy Museum, and toured the monuments and ended Friday with a wreath laying at Arlington National Cemetery.

@banana468, I've never been to DC.  That sounds like an amazing trip!  Other than the heat.

On Saturday, my H and a friend went to a double header movie.  It was the original Willy Wonka, then the newest Willy Wonka which is a prequel.  It's when Willy was young and first starting his chocolate business.  My friend had never seen the original, so that was fun to introduce her to it.  None of us had seen the newest one.

It was also free!  It's a summer series of movies that a local theater is doing for no charge.  Pretty neat.

I went out with the same friend/neighbor last night.  We took my dog Izzy for a walk and were then hanging out at her house.  We stayed up way too late talking.  Fun!  But now I am really dragging this morning.  Three more hours until lunch and then I can take a nap, lol.

My parents were in town all weekend bc we had N's bday party yesterday. He was SO excited about it, it was really sweet. Got a few nice presents that he loves, and had a nice time with all his family. My IL's are just irritating people and they're annoying me a lot right now. But N was happy so that's the important thing. 

We also finished painting our kitchen and it looks so nice! I'm getting so excited to continue in the living room (that we never painted when we moved, so it will look so different!). We also are talking about some new furniture, and we really need to reno our primary bathroom where the shower hasn't worked in like 4 years? Starting to feel like a grown up house finally.

We had a good but busy weekend. Friday was the dog's birthday (I know, I'm that person), so we stayed in and hung out in the backyard for most of the evening, because that's her favorite thing to do. Saturday I had to get up early to run, because it's hot AF and I'm not trying to melt. Then in the afternoon we went kayaking and hung out at our local brewery for a bit. Yesterday was mostly chores but we did get dinner at one of my favorite places. 

It's so freaking hot here. Apparently it's supposed to be 97 and humid all week. I want a pool.

Hello!  I'm dragging ass today.  We had a great weekend, but last night went way later than planned. 

Friday, my sister had her surgery.  Everything is good and she's recovering well.  She was able to go off pain meds completely yesterday.  We just need final pathology to know for sure if this is it (except monitoring) or if there's going to be any further treatment.  Foster nephew came and hung out with us while she was in surgery.  We did a Costco run and then just hung out. 

Saturday, house cleaning and chill time. 

Sunday, we smoked two pork shoulders and had family dinner.  My dad and our friends M+L came over as well.  It was a really nice time, but we were up way too late last night. 

SSDD otherwise.

Grandsons left on Saturday. I mostly have the house back in order but wow were we exhausted. I napped both Saturday and yesterday afternoons! We took them to the farmer's market Saturday morning (their Dad picked them up around 1:00) and bought sweet corn. H grilled it along with chicken for dinner last night. Soooo good! I love the first sweet corn of the season.

The puppy did a first for us last evening. H had put the butter dish on the table and left the kitchen. I was back in our room doing something when I hear H yelling at the dog. He had jumped on the table and ate half a stick of butter! Needless to say his stomach was upset all evening and he wasn't feeling well. We looked it up and butter isn't toxic to dogs but can cause pancreatitis if eaten in large quantities ( no mention on what that is). He threw up twice last evening and seems fine today - eating normally. Geez this dog is going to be the end of me. I have never had a dog jump on a table to get food or for any other reason!

I got back to the Y today and did my full spin class. I have a rescheduled dentist appointment (rescheduled from the memorial service last week) and we have our church book club tonight. We read Fever in the Heartland. It is a true story about the KKK in Indiana back in the 1920's. It is a disgusting story and just goes to show we haven't learned a whole lot. I could only read it in short bits because it turned my stomach but feel it is worth reading.

@short+sassy I'd highly recommend it.   Despite all news coverage making it appear that elected representatives are all over the place I didn't see any and we even ate in the Capital one day.   

The Troop leader picked two girls to do the wreath laying.  Living where we do there are several girls with parents who serve.  The one she picked happened to be participating in the ceremony on the 20th anniversary of her dad serving which had such an impact.  I was so proud of those kids.

@ILOVEBeachMusic, poor doggy!  I'd be feeling pretty sick also if I ate half a stick of butter and I am a whole lot bigger, lol.  I'm glad he seems none the worse for wear today. 

I always think of the KKK only being in the South, but they are sadly all over the country.  I lost my innocence on that when I was in college.  A new chapter opened in Fallbrook, CA which is in San Diego County.

But on the major plus side, they have vastly decreased in total membership over the years.  I just looked it up because I was curious.  Their heyday was in the 1920s with millions of members.  Now, there are only 5K-8K.

Interestingly, in the 1920s the states with the biggest numbers of KKK members were Indiana, Oregon and Colorado - in that order. The politicians were in their pockets and they were against Italians, Catholics and Jews along with Blacks. Every state in the Union had the KKK in them. They were less active in a couple of the the NEern states.

@banana468, sounds like a lovely trip! I hope it was fun. Several years ago I visited DC with my dad and we saw some of those places like the National Air & Space Museum (that takes at least one day in order to do it justice) and some of the monuments but there wasn't time to see everything. I'll have to go back one day and see the other places you mentioned.

Not a lot going on with me otherwise right now, but preparing for a summer trip with my family to Switzerland that will happen in a few weeks.
