What a weekend - now it’s Monday!

First Shelley Duvul, then Richard Simmons and THEN the one that really hit home for me - Shannen Doherty.
I switched from homechef to hellofresh and that’s coming today.  I used them many many moons ago and got a good intro offer to come back to them.  Homechef’s produce has been less than stellar, so if hellofresh has the same quality of meat and better produce they win this game.  Price wise, hellofresh is a bit more but not “deal breaker” more.  Plus, they offer one free breakfast, app or dessert so that makes up for the price difference.  I’m excited to cook tonight lol.  I feel like the selections are similar to homechef but look better from what I’ve seen so far.  They have international culinary selections every week too!
edit to add; I went back to my order history and when I said many many moons ago - I meant 8 years. 2016 was my last order with them.  And it’s only gone up $10.99 in price in those 8 years. That’s actually pretty good.

I would suggest to start diamond painting @Casadena! Then you can hang up your own art!. But seriously (but also wasn’t joking with that) amazon prime starts tomorrow. Maybe see if anything you like in your cart goes down in price tomorrow? And I think adding 5+ people IS rude without asking first.  It’s a lot to host. I’d be annoyed too.
This showed up on my fb feed and I had to laugh and send it to my friend.  Actual convo I’d have with my ex husband (who had varied work hours and could be any time of the day/night. He could get “home” at 6, 10, 12, 2, 4 etc etc).
me, in my granny panties, huge sleeping shirt and clearisol all over my face:  “if you come home before 1, and can quietly crawl into bed, fine.  If I wake up before 1 I can probably go back to sleep.  Anytime after 1, just sleep on the couch.  The sound of you dragging your feet over the carpet wakes me up and I need to be alert at work tomorrow”.  Times have changed!

  • @casadena, my nephews are 6 and 8 and seem to be a lot like your boys.  They were pretty exhausting up until about 6 months ago and then have evened out somewhat.  They are still assholes to each other from time to time though.

@charlotte989875, poor J.  It's got to be such a stressful situation with him because you don't want to under or overreact when he's sick.  ((hugs)) I hope he's better ASAP and that he can grow out of it eventually.

The weekend was...OK. Friday, we went shopping and picked up dinner. Spent the rest of the evening at home and just hung out.  Saturday, grocery shopping and then my foster nephew's 10th bday party.  We went boating yesterday.

The celeb deaths and then the events of Saturday evening at the rally for the former prez all suck a lot.  The last 2+ weeks, all of the things in the zeitgeist, especially politically, have been weighing very heavy on my mind.  I was damn near sick Saturday night watching everything unfold and I really wanted someone to smack my phone out of my hand and/or at least uninstall twitter.  Hold on to your butts, y'all because I have a feeling the rough waters are only starting to churn.

I'm so, so sad Love Island US ends on Sunday.  It's been my escape this summer.  Plus a lot of the Bravo accounts I follow have been watching and their hot takes are everything.

It's my mom's bday today.  I had a moment over the weekend where I was glad she wasn't here to see ((gestures around)) all of this, but I also would desperately love to talk to her.  Ugh.

Hugs @mrsconn23 and healthy vibes J’s way @charlotte989875

Legally Blonde/the girlfriend time was a lot of fun. I can’t fully believe that the rally nonsense wasn’t staged (yes, when it comes to t*ump I’ve become who I hate, a conspiracy theorist, questioning what’s real), but maybe his followers will start to feel that guns are a huge problem? Since elementary school classrooms don’t seem to do it?

We’re about to enter another heatwave and I don’t have it in me.
  • Hugs @mrsconn23.

@charlotte989875 hugs to you too.   It's so hard when they're tiny .

We dropped Chiquita off at camp yesterday and she was initially nervous but seemed to get a groove right away and said goodbye to DH and me quickly. I'm a little nervous about the heat this week for her but after the week on the surface of the sun in DC I'm hoping all my nagging reminders sink in.

I've been watching all the political coverage and...I can't.

*hugs* @mrsconn23.  I looked up love Island and it’s probably something I’d like.  I’m done with 90 day fiancée but love my reality shows.  Love is Blind: Brazil is pulling the same old drama tactics.  Bringing in people who blindly fell in love with 2 choices (in like 10 days time?) and have to meet up in person with the other half they didn’t get or chose. it’s getting old.

I also think I need to buy apple tv.  Do I?

@charlotte989875, I wish you a period of time with no sick
    kids!

  • I have big anxiety today and it seems to be just because.  Harley has been super restless to. I'm not sure if she's just feeding off of me or if there's something in the air.  There was a pedestrian accident outside my window first thing this morning.  I heard tires squealing and then heard someone screaming help.  For me to hear it where I am in my apartment is kinda surprising.  I looked out and there were already bystanders with phones helping, so I stayed inside.  Help was here in just a few minutes, one perk of living downtown I suppose.

Work is still going okay.  Training is way different being remote.  I've done what I can do today and have stuff saved to go over tomorrow morning with my supervisor -- she's off at 3.

There are fruit flies in my home and I can't figure out why.  They're irritating me to no end.  I've moved furniture and done a deep clean everywhere, including my trash can. They are steadfastly avoiding the red wine vinegar which usually does the trick.  I'm getting frustrated.  I'm also having eye issues with my right eye.  IDK what's going on, it feels like allergies but I haven't had this much of a problem in a couple of years now.  Maybe all of this is why I'm anxious.  I've done a few breathing exercises and it helps for a bit, but doesn't stay.

@VarunaTT - is it possible the fruit flies are coming from a drain?  They are very annoying!

Our weekend was OK.  It was hot, humid & stormy.  That weather continues today.  It's supposed to get better after today.

It seemed like every time I got an alert on my phone it was about some one dying or getting shot at this weekend.  Although I think DJT is disgusting, I do not wish him harm.  I think this is just a symptom of how messed up our country is right now.

  • @MNNEBride I didn't think of that.  I'll clean the kitchen drains tonight, that's a good idea.

Ruth Westheimer died over the weekend also.

I actually didn't know about Shannon Doherty!  She's only a few years older than me.  I remember when 90210 blew up in popularity.

Richard Simmons is originally from New Orleans and came back to live here for his retirement.  He is a well-loved native son.  There will probably be a second line organized for him, which is a traditional funeral rite here.  It's a walking parade that is a celebration of a person's life.

My sister briefly met him once!  Her and her friend were seeing a movie in Los Angeles and he was sitting in the theatre.  The movie hadn't started yet and they walked over to say hi.  My sister also joked, "I didn't think Richard Simmons ate popcorn!"  He gave her a big smile, put his finger up to his lips in a "sshhh" action and joked back, "Don't tell anyone."

Oh! Like the 2023 version of the Haunted Mansion? I loved that movie lol

    I didn't see that movie so I can't say.

But it's not unusual for movies and tv shows set in New Orleans to have a second line scene.  Some brass instrument musicians in the parade and playing music...this part really happens.  People carrying black parasols and bopping them in the air to the music...this part usually doesn't but it wouldn't be unheard of either, lol.

Most weddings here also have a second line during the reception.  It's a particular song that is played.  That is the cue for everyone to get up with their napkins and form a congo line to dance in a circle around the room.  The bride leads it and she does have a parasol, lol.  Sometimes her bridesmaids do also.  You move your napkin/parasol from side to side in time to the music.
