In SSDD mode here. The kids’ camp ended. Working to keep some structure to the days which just keeps things running smoothly.
  • We had a nice weekend.  Saturday we saw old friends and met their son who they adopted during Covid.  It was a great time and kind of therapeutic.  Sunday we dropped Chiquita off at camp for the week and given the rain that hasn't stopped I'm hopeful her activities are fun as camp and damp is less pleasant.

We've been watching the Olympics and Snoop is the medicine I need.
  • We had a fairly mundane weekend. We felt better, but we thought it was prudent to stay home. So mostly just watched olympics and did chores. I did see a trailer for the new Twister movie, so we watched the old one Saturday. It was actually better than I'd remembered. I'm not a movie theater person, but we'll get the new one as soon as it's steaming.

I did manage to clean up the yard two hours before another storm made a big mess, so that was fun.
  • Weekend was OK.

Friday, my younger sis and BIL had their final hearing for foster nephew.  It did not go their way.  He will likely be back with his mother this upcoming weekend.  It's gut-wrenching and I'm absolutely shattered for them.  More than 5.5 years and just...gone in about 2 weeks.  We went to older sis's house Friday night for a pre-scheduled Olympics party, but also to give them love/support.  They did take a mini-trip Saturday with him just as a last hurrah and I think they didn't want to sit at home thinking about the future.

Saturday, took DefConn BTS shopping and also cleaned out his clothes.  We got rid of over half his wardrobe because he grew so fast in a few short months.  I'm so grateful we have a massive Dick's Sporting Goods clearance/outlet store locally.  We find fantastic deals there.  We are for sure done with kid sizes.  I had 2 trash bags full of clothes and was able to give BFF/SIL one of the bags for her boys.

After shopping, we just relaxed until it was time to go to Joan Jett and Alanis Morrissette.  It was a fantastic show.  We had so much fun.  I ran into my wedding photog on our way out of the venue.  It was wild.  LOL

Sunday, very low-key day.  We made smoked pork and hung out watching sports (Olympics, racing, baseball).  It was rainy out, so not much to do.

School starts Wednesday.  I can't believe it.  I need to take DefConn to pick up some supplies tonight.

Tomorrow, I'm volunteering through work.  It's an event I do almost every year and I love it.

    SSDD otherwise.
  • oh @mrsconn23 that is heartbreaking for everyone involved, i'm so sorry for your family. Sending lots of love and hugs.

I’m sorry to hear about your newphew @mrsconn23, just heartbreaking. Warm vibes to all of you
  • I’m so mad FOR them @mrsconn23. Will bio mother be a good environment for him? *hugs to all*
I didn’t get any Olympic fun. I actually don’t have nbc.  I’m sad because I thought I did! Oh well, news reports online it is.
Weekend was fun. Met up with some friends for a county fair on Saturday.  Did nada on Sunday. Today is a coworker’s last day so we’re heading out for an early dinner to say goodbye but waaaaah because she brought a lot of light and laughter into our office.  Grrr

I have a metric fuckton of doubts that she will be.
  • The weekend was good.  Saw Inside Out 2 and it was wonderful.  It was more funny than the last one and their visual representation of anxiety this time was as spot on as their representation of depression was.

Otherwise, nothing much.  I was filling my pillbox and thought, Man look at me, I only missed twice! (I have 3x/day pills).  Then I realized how much healthier I am, bc the past would've been, Dammit, I still missed 2.  Trying to get that attitude to other habits now.  My mother is kinda making me irritable, but I'm trying to give her grace.  I honestly don't think she realizes some of what she's doing, and I don't want to make her feel bad, but i also need her to get a grip on some of the things she's constantly complaining about.  But her grip usually entails a full 180 and full steam ahead and that's not desirable either.  It's her and I'm just trying to give her grace; sometimes the DDDRRRAAAMMMMAA is annoying.

I"m getting my hair buzzed tomorrow  I"ve started having some sensory issues with my hair touching my face, I'm not client facing anymore, and I work from home.  It's time.
  • @CharmedPam, Peacock has full coverage of the Olympics.  If you have a Walmart+ account, Peacock is a free subscription.

@mrsconn23, I'm sorry to hear about your nephew.  In situations like this, I wish there could at least be visitation rights.  But I know that is not the way it works.

Why is our system so flawed?

LOL, right? And having the 'insider view' of how the sausage gets made, it's so, so messed up.

They had a follow-up meeting today to plan the 'hand-off' and my sister said that the least assholish person on the other side of the table was foster nephew's mom.   The DCS crew were quite awful and needlessly cruel.  So...that's fun.

I lost my entire mind when she was telling me about how they behaved and what they were saying because a dog literally gets more consideration than this.  Upending entire lives, but 'they had a weekend' to prepare, so it should be fine...you know.

I want to burn shit down.

He's back with her permanently Sunday.  We're going over on Saturday to say goodbye.  This feels like a funeral for the living.
  • @short+sassy I believe it's Paramount with the Walmart subscription.  There's a streaming service offered with Instacart, but I don't remember what it is, that one might be Peacock.
  • JFC @mrsconn23, that’s awful. One of my friends sons is a foster Dad and going through the same thing!

    Thanks, you're right!

I have both, along with Walmart+.  Since they both start with "P", I got confused, lol.

  • @mrsconn23, it breaks my heart for everyone.  It must be confusing for your foster nephew also.  I'm sure he'll miss you all too.

My H was put up for adoption when he was 2 and placed into foster care.  His foster parents wanted to adopt him, but they were too old to be eligible.  His parents adopted him when he was 4.

He remembers his foster parents a bit and has wished he could have seen them again.
