Dear Prudence,
My first marriage failed because my ex went back on the timeline we agreed to. We were just out of college and wanted to travel. We had a pregnancy scare and my ex decided that she wanted to settle down and start a family then and there. We were barely scraping by in a studio apartment. I wanted babies someday. She wanted them now. It felt like I didn’t even get a say.
Fast forward 10 years, I am very happy with my second wife and we are expecting. Out of the blue, my ex messaged me on social media.
She told me about her fertility troubles and a failed surrogacy and then proceeded to lay all the blame on me. I was a coward and a hypocrite. It felt like a slap to the face. For whatever our troubles were, I never wished ill on my ex and wanted her to have the life she wanted. I am at a loss on how to respond if at all. I don’t want to add to her pain. So what should I do?
