Dear Prudence,
My older sister, 63, is a recent widow. She has been with her late husband, 67, since she was 16 (they got married in their 20s). He was unfaithful to her several times, but she chose to stay together. They have three grown children. One of his indiscretions was with a childhood friend of mine, with whom I’ve had sporadic contact over the years; she recently contacted me out of the blue to have dinner together.
Neither my sister nor I know if anything actually happened. But I was aware that he, secretly, went to a couple of her singing gigs. At the time of the (alleged) affair, my friend was 25, and he was 35. My sister is now asking me to ask my friend the details of the affair. My instinct says, “No way.”
