Wedding Woes

Monday

Good morning.  I have covid and it has knocked me on my butt the last week.  I am back at work today (thank goodness for working from home) and hopefully can put in a full day's work.  Just took my last dose of paxlovid, but I still have a low grade fever and congestion, so I'm not bothering to test (and won't go out) until the fever stops.

Other than being sick AF, I watched Twisted Metal (solid fun, entertaining, and has some heart), caught up with some other shows (Extraordinary, Futurama, and Foundation), crotcheted, and sat on my butt while trying to keep Harley away from me so I wouldn't give her covid too.  How was everyone else's weekend.

Re: Monday

  • I camped with Chiquita Fri and Sat with the GS for their annual weekend where the entire service unit comes together.  We had to leave for her soccer game (another win) and I went to FIL's 75th birthday.  Saturday night I didn't sleep well so yesterday we were up, showered at home, went to church and I crashed hard after I started laundry.

  • Hi...I'm sorry you're still struggling with your symptoms @VarunaTT.  I'm glad you feel OK enough to work.  ((hugs))

We had a decent weekend.  Friday we looked a couple of houses really close to us with BIL/SIL and got some BBQ for dinner.  The houses are a no-go, unfortunately.  The BBQ was great. LOL

Saturday, we had a low-key morning and then did some shopping. We had a bonfire and s'mores after dinner.
Sunday, normal football Sunday.  My dad and nephews came over.  It was really nice day.

Emotionally, we had a really up and down weekend.  DH had a panic attack Friday night.  I was really out of sorts for over half of Saturday.  The dregs of all of that kind of hung around a little bit yesterday.

I got my paperwork on Friday.  I read it over and submitted it this morning and got my work phone and computer all cleaned off.  I talked to my manager.  This layoff was massive.  I actually feel bad for the people who are left behind.  That's got to be so stressful and they can't be feeling motivated to do shit.

In other news, this Mormon MomTok show on Hulu is wild.  Ha.
  • @VarunaTT healing vibes your way (your way too @mrsconn23)

Spent a lot of time outside this weekend enjoying the beautiful weather, and probably about as much in the kitchen, made a huge pot of meatballs since it's cooled off so much, in addition to a bunch of other things.  ExH is in a misbehaving flare up which is always fun *eye roll*.
  • Had a really fun dinner with a friend Friday night - it's so nice to catch up. Spent some quality alone time with G Saturday morning and then all of us went to the park in the afternoon and played outside when we got home! Went to the zoo yesterday morning and MIL & SIL joined us and then we went out to a late lunch - it was really nice. Boys helped me make eggplant parm and homemade tomato sauce for dinner and that was really nice too. Overall, super good weekend!
  • That sucks @VarunaTT! I’m sorry you caught it
@mrsconn23, sorry those houses didn’t work, especially with good BBQ around! I feel bad for everyone in that work situation.  I’d be on pins and needles too if there was a massive layoff.
@Casadena, if eggplant parm wasnt so taxing, I’d make more of that too.  I have a great recipe from an Italian family but it’s a lot of work and it’s also not in a homechef box kit so where do I even start? Lol

weekend was great. Kinda.  I had a salon appt and the pain wiped me out the rest of the day!i got microneedling done on Saturday along with my scalp redone. It was by a new person, actually the salon owner.
Things you don’t want to hear after a microneedle: “does the sight of blood make you sick?”
This girl went HARD on my face.  It’s still marked up! I mean yay for results but the guy who did it twice already on me did it so gentle the redness was gone in a few hours.  My face was still red the next day from hers.
Sunday our company went to a pumpkin patch for a charity event and honestly had a great day.  I wish I was forced more into charity work because I know I don’t do enough of it and I never look for stuff like that on my own.  How do I become a better person?

Also I ordered some stuff from stitchfix.  I don’t do the style anymore, but they have my measurements and know I need the height on my clothes so they suggested a faux leather coat and I thought they had my height in mind on that “suggestion”.  I love it.  It’s just short on me.  Like all my coats.  So I wonder of it’ll be cheaper to ship it to my mom to add arm cuffs/torso cuff and wait till October when I see her to get it back - or find someone local to add it? The cost of shipping makes me think local will make more sense…

  • @levioosa I am so sorry, that is extraordinarily terrible.

I just found out that my previous position is now on paralegal no. 3 since I've been gone.

Karma is a bitch, I suppose.
  • Ugh @levioosa that is so aggravating and I’d do what you did too! Cry. Especially if prep is involved.
karma is such a bitch @VarunaTT. That’s a really high turnover.

  • @VarunaTT, I'm sorry to hear you have COVID! I hope you continue to feel better.

@mrsconn23, Massive layoffs are always so awful!

@levioosa, I know you've been worried about your health and am so sorry at how difficult and frustrating it has been to see that doctor.  I hope you get answers soon and it's the best outcome it can be.

I didn't do much this weekend except relax, which was well needed.  My H and I did a restaurant month lunch at one of our favorite places that's also near our house.  They even had my favorite dish of theirs (Migas) on the prix fix menu.  It's scrambled eggs with small pieces of chorizo throughout.  Liberally garnished with tomatoes, green onions, and tortilla strips.  Usually served with avocado, but they didn't bring that out to me until the end.  But one of the best parts of the dish is the sauce.  It's like a white Mexican crema sauce, but whatever they add gives it a nice tang and hint of spicy.  It's the same sauce they use on their fried green tomatoes appetizer.  Which was also included in the lunch deal.  Yummy!

But I'm also jealous of the big batch of meatballs @ei34 made this weekend!

Yes, a hurricane is headed straight for Louisiana again (sigh).  So I'm keeping my eye on that.  At least it's not expected to be above a Cat. 1, so hopefully there will be minimal damage across the state.  If it stays on the current path, NOLA is barely in the eastern edge of the cone.  But we're expected to get a lot of rain when it makes landfall on Wednesday, which invariably leads to some parts of the city flooding.  Fortunately for me, Wednesdays are my WFH day anyway.  So I can stay planted in my house and not go anywhere.

I applied for a job years ago that my friend told me about.  She worked there and referred me.  I made it through a gauntlet of FOUR separate interviews on four different days.  Only one of them a phone interview.

I had the inside scoop from my friend they were only interviewing one other person.  But they chose the other person!  Womp-womp.

About two months later and right before lunch, the other person threw the few personal items she had on her desk into her purse.  Walked into the HR office and told them she was leaving for lunch and not coming back, LMAO.  She didn't explain why she was leaving and the office was mystified.  There hadn't been any turmoil, conflicts, or bad blood.

I already had another job by then.  But definitely felt, "Ha!  Guess you should have hired me."
