Wedding Woes

Wednesday (that feels like a Friday)

Hope this is most everyone's last work day this week!  I'm excited for the long weekend, the holiday, and am so thankful for all of you!  Best online friends anyone could hope to have.  Wishing everyone a wonderful (and tasty) Thanksgiving!

I started cooking last night and have the rest divided into this evening and tomorrow.  The kids and I will join one of my sisters at her parish for morning mass (the day always began at church growing up, with cousins, and we like to keep that going with our own kids now), and the kids will play parade float bingo while I'm cooking.  My mom is the queen of Thanksgiving and still adores hosting, so we'll head there around 1:30 or 2.

I'm in a good place shopping-wise but will definitely be checking a couple sale prices on Friday.  A few of our theme parks/adventure parks/theaters that we like to visit have good Black Friday ticket prices, which is helpful.  But I saw a spot on meme the other day that I'll paraphrase, something like "we all have big screen tv's now, can I have a discount on groceries and gas?". Lol...I would love 25-30% economy size rolls of paper towels and cereal.
  • Well, after getting Chiquito swabbed for strep, flu, xrayed and then tested for Covid at home he was home last night with a 100.00 degree fever (.3 degrees lower than the night before), ate and off to bed with Motrin and this morning his temp is 95.5.  He's got a cough and I'm temping him at noon to see if anything is off.  All tests are neg and lungs are clear so....hopefully something fast?

We have all the cooking to do but it's not too rough.
  • Right @ei34? I saw another meme that said “dear Walmart, we all have our big screen TV’s by now, how about a black friday deal on groceries?”.  Truth.
ugh to Chiquito @banana468, how did his memo get lost to not get sick for the holiday?

Today is a short work day.  I have some cleaning to do (thanks to someone who told me about that mold cleaner, because I’m going to try it. Plus, I brought the tree in to put up after going back and forth if I would?
last night my friend and I saw Wicked.  Super good but I came to the conclusion I don’t really like Ariana Grande. She made an OK Glinda, but something about her irks me, I didn’t know much about her as a singer either. Cynthia Erivo stole the show though.

  • I was supposed to do my cookies last night, but 5:30 just felt too late to start cookies.  So I logged on early this morning so I can log off earlier and make my cookies.  It's just for fun, so I don't have to have them finished today, but I'm waiting on my glue for my new build and don't have anything else to do.

Otherwise, SSDD.  I'll pick up our Thanksgiving meal tomorrow and head to Mom's.  Have to grab a bottle of NA wine on the way and I think I need gas too.  But it should be pretty easy and chill.  I have plenty of movies and books to keep me entertained.

  • @CharmedPam I swear my family loves to get sick around the holidays.  It's just a rough time of year for stress and sickness.   A few years ago he had the flu and I was down to 24 hours before Christmas wondering if we'd host.

  • We landed on a crock pot roast for tomorrow, so cooking will be pretty easy. It's just the two of us and H doesn't care about traditions, so we're not doing any of the normal things. Usually I host the whole family, but they're travelling this year.

Our big tv actually did break this year and we could use a new one, but I can't imagine the kind of sale it would need to be to convince me to go shopping this weekend. Friday we're getting up early and doing one of my favorite challenging hikes up in the mountains. It's supposed to be cold, but it should be ok if the sun is out. Hopefully it will be enough to wear out these dogs. They're both high energy anyway, but when they get together it's like they feed chaos off each other.
  • That’s exactly how I feel about her too @levioosa. Just not a fan. Thanksgiving at the in laws tomorrow. They invited my parents who h neither H nor I were consulted about. So not exactly looking forward to that. Then we’ll do Christmas tree shopping Friday before H goes to camp!
  • I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgivng!  I'm thankful to have such a great group of online friends.

Yesterday once I got off work went great.  We have our new tv and my H will be hanging it up today.  Costco wasn't too busy, despite being so close to Thanksgiving.  Probably because we were there closer to 7pm.  I was looking forward to getting those $2 tacos all day and they were well worth the wait.  This place even does free guacamole on the food, if you want it.  I don't know how they make any money, especially on Tuesday, lol.  But I'm enjoying the combo of awesome food for an especially low price.

We got two new things from Costco.  A stuffing with chorizo in it.  I'm also going to make my usual Stove Top with Jimmy Dean sausage stuffing.  It's not fancy, but my H and I both love it.  We also got Portuguese custard tarts on a whim.  It was the first time I'd seen them.  My H and I both tried one last night.  They are delicious!  Even better than I thought.  There's more custard in the pastry cup than it looks like.  So bites of it taste like a lot of custard with a little bit of flaky pastry.

I thought today I was going to be stressful after the fiasco yesterday, but it's been fine.  Though I'm annoyed at the guy who has been helping me.  He's supposed to be working today.  I told him I had some work for him, so be sure to check his e-mail this morning.  I've heard nothing from him nor has he started the work I sent.  WTF?  It's sad to begin with I have to "remind" him to check his e-mail throughout the day and to "make sure he fully reads my e-mails".  Both of these things have been issues multiple times.  Dude, seriously.  You are older than me and I feel like I have to treat you like a 5-year-old sometimes.  It also means I'll have to do one of the things I sent him, but at least it will only take about 30 minutes.

But it is my "Friday".  And my Fridays are half days, so the half day switches to today.  Except I have to make up two hours.  My work has a variety of schedules people can choose.  I work 4 9s and a 4.  But holidays are only 8 hours.  You have to either make up the extra hour in the same week or take an hour of vacation time.  Yesterday was also the only day I was in the office this week, with the way my WFH days are.  Yay!

  • Happy Thanksgiving WW! My kids (and grandkids) have all arrived at our house for the weekend. I've been busy cooking and getting everyone settled. Last night we celebrated DS1's birthday. We had a nice evening sitting around drinking wine and chatting. Our dog and DS1's dog are getting along fine. They are; however, exhausted because neither one has gotten their dog naps in during the day.

I've been waking up early - like I did about 2 years ago- at anywhere from 4:30 to 5:30. I like the peace and quite before H or anyone else is awake but it means I'm pretty tired at night. I have the sides to put together for dinner today. H is doing the turkey on his Big Green Egg. I did pies yesterday and DD did the cranberry salad.

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.
