Wedding Woes

Monday

Phew, what a weekend.  How's everyone today?

Re: Monday

  • Weekend was good but exhausting. M had a cookie party at his friends house Friday night- so weird that we’re entering the stage when he gets invited to party’s after school! He had a blast! Saturday was gingerbread house making #1 with friends then H and I went out to a Christmas party Saturday night. J then woke up at 4:30 Sunday morning and would not go back to sleep as a fun reminder of why we never go out.

Yesterday was gingerbread house #2 and hanging around resting. We were all exhausted but a super festive weekend!
  • Weekend here was good, but too fast. Saturday was nice and sunny, so long run at the park was good. Saturday night we went to a local distillery for fancy cocktails and then ended up going out for Cuban. Yesterday was a hike in the rain that wasn't great, but then I had a holiday dinner with my oldest group of girlfriends. One is recently divorced and the other separated from her long term partner a few years ago; so they're hot and heavy in the dating apps. Hearing their stories is a trip.

Five days of work left in 2024! I'm close to counting down the hours.
  • Yay for the festive happenings @CharmedPam and I hope that your neck continues to improve @VarunaTT. I hate randoms kinks like that.

Weekend was great, a nice mix of fun things without too much craziness, although with all of the Cookie baking I don't think I sat down.  The swim meet was fun to watch and the nativity pageant was really sweet.

It's a holiday pajama day at work today, and only four more wake ups til holiday break, so it's not the most Monday-ist Monday around.
  • I went to boat parade with my friend on Saturday.  It was fun but ended up being much shorter than expected.  They were supposed to go back and forth on Lake Ponchartrain for about 2.5 hours, but they only did it once.  Most of them were sail boats.  My friend owns one herself.  She said the water was especially choppy and could potentially be dangerous conditions, so she wasn't surprised they turned back in after one round.

But we'd brought wine and cheese/crackers!  So we hung out next to the lake anyway for a while and caught up.

She has a crazy amount of cookies she needs to make for a variety of people/groups next week.  I volunteered to help her and will also use the opportunity to make some of my own no sugar-added ones.  I'm ambivalent about cooking/baking, so I don't usually bother doing it.  Cooking, yeah.  Because I need to eat and want leftovers to grab over the course of the week.  But baking is more carby (even with Stevia) food treats and not meals, so I don't spend the time that often.  However, baking with a friend sounds a lot more enjoyable and I'm looking forward to it.

G's bday party yesterday was awesome. He had 10 friends at an an indoor playplace thing. We had a little party room and they played for a long time, then had pizza. chicken nuggets, juice, and cake, and then played some more. It was incredible seeing how much fun he had and how strong he is, especially since there were so many moments the last few years I worried that he wouldn't even make it to his 5th birthday. It's pretty incredible. Rest of the day was opening and playing with presents, movies, and early bed time :)

  • All the hugs to you @Casadena.   The milestones can feel so emotional for parents when it's just normal aging and after trauma hit in a different way.

  • It's a cold gross rain today.

I had my pre-screen today for my first colonoscopy that I'm due to have days after my 45 birthday.   Chiquita is looking forward to this rite of passage for me.

Tonight Chiquito should get to see what role he has in the pageant and Chiquita has choir rehearsal.  Then we  have dinner reservations which I'm REALLY looking forward to.

The weekend was decent.  Chiquita had an audition and we find out this week how she did.   If she didn't get accepted then it's still great practice for her and it was her first time singing an Italian aria so kudos to her.

Saturday night was the town light parade.  DH and Chiquito were in it and DH's car was the float puller for Cub Scouts.  It was in the low 30s but I had hot chocolate for us and Chiquita and I didn't get too cold til the end.  MIL and FIL said they'd come watch but they punked out due to the cold.  I get it but still pulled the MIL line, "You missed a great parade!  They did such a good job!" to add the guilt that they missed the efforts of their child and grandchild.  Tsk. Tsk.

Sunday was Mass and cookie making.  I'm not done but used the mixes I had and made a batch of sugar cookies, gingerbread and meringue mushrooms as I have the goal of making a Yule Log.
