Wedding Woes

Last Monday of 2024

I love this week!
WFH till 2 today, off the next two and then WFH the next 2. My NYE will be rock’n. 15 of us meetup girls are doing dinner, comedy show and then ring the new year in at a local bar.  NYD I have tickets for babygirl (is there anything Nicole Kidman isn’t in?!?) what’s on your plate for new years?
This weekend was fun.  Saw Frozen on Friday and on Saturday, my friend hosted her annual year end party.  She brought in a henna artist, wine taster and a tarot reader.  The tarot reader was a fraud but we all got some good laughs in as we exited our readings to compare notes. We’d all talk to each other about them and found out she had a lot of (very generic) things to say to us and when she tried to touch on our personalities, she didn’t even get that right either. She was way off and made it a sales pitch by telling everyone they needed to go back to her and handed them a business card at the end. It rubbed me the wrong way because my friend hosting this party paid her $450 for 3 hours. We even said “a broken clock is right 2 times a day” about repeating the same readings to various people. But honestly a fun night.  I didn’t leave until after midnight. I’m wild ya’ll.

Re: Last Monday of 2024

  • DS2 left this morning. DD left yesterday with her crew. DS2 and I watched all 3 Night in the Museum movies. It was a lot of fun. He unfortunately caught his dad's cold so was pretty miserable the last couple of days. This morning he was much better. I have so far avoided getting sick. I spent this morning working out and cleaning the bathrooms. Yesterday was wash all the sheets and remake beds (except DS2's). I also took down Christmas decorations on the 2nd floor. I'll leave the main floor and basement up for a little longer but no one will be on the 2nd floor for the foreseeable future.

No plans for NYE. We will probably just stay home and watch something on TV. We will have our usual NYD dinner on Wednesday- pork, greens of some type and black eyed peas. All your social activities sound so fun @CharmedPam
  • Sounds like a super fun weekend! @CharmedPam

I hope you get to spend some good quality time with everyone and work is super slow @Casadena

This weekend was pretty good. We were going to try and stay over at the grandparents house again on Saturday but we needed a rest day. We did go over yesterday to have an early birthday dinner for my mom and that was nice.

H has jury duty this week to my annoyance. It sucks that I’m off this week and he won’t even be home. Otherwise I’m just planning on getting some rest and trying to organize some things. No big plans for NYE. We’ll probably end up staying home which is fine. We’ve been running around like bats outta hell for the last two weeks.

  • That all sounds so nice @CharmedPam and yay for visiting family @Casadena and @ILoveBeachMusic
Boo to the jury duty @levioosa - hopefully he gets released today and doesn’t have to go back - isn’t this supposed to be a quiet week for courts?

The kids and I did Trader Joe’s and Costco pop ins earlier. My dad came over late morning and stayed awhile, he’s helping me renovate the second floor (not a full size floor like the main floor, but definitely more than a crawl space attic - plenty of windows, 6.5’ ceilings) into what im hoping to be two bedrooms someday. I was lucky to be able to buy this house and stay in the school district, so I’m not complaining. But the kids can’t keep on sharing one small bedroom on the main floor. He did some insulating in a room that needed it, and he showed me how to spackle a different room.

Love that you get some family time everyone.
@ei34, what are Dad’s/parent’s for? Mine would do the same for me too and I don’f know what I’d do without them. In fact, they’re coming back to do some more odds and ends around my house on the 20th
@levioosa, super annoying! I hope it’s only one day of service.

  • I had a 5-day weekend.  It was GLORIOUS!  For Christmas, we went over to our neighbor's house.  She made turkey, we made ham.  Plus lots of delicious sides.  One of her friends who is also alone for the holidays joined us.  I was lazy most of the rest of the weekend, but did get some stuff done around the house and was proud of myself for that.  I went through a lot of clothes and my Goodwill pile is getting enormous, lol.

My "Christmas gift" to myself was finally analyzing what steel work is left for the current big project.  It's been confusing and ever changing because a different company is taking over a bunch of the packages, but "which" packages was up in the air until a couple weeks ago.

There is very little steel work left on it, which means I can have my department back!  No more dealing with the aggravating coworker (D) I've been training.  I'm letting things hang the way they are for this week, but will talk to the Big Boss next week about it.  My suggestion is going to be that D complete one dummy steel package every 1-2 weeks, so he doesn't lose what he has learned.

Today was technically a WFH day, but it kinda felt like another day off.  I only had one thing to do and it took less than an hour.

I work in the office on Tuesday, which makes me nervous for my drive home.  Drunken tourists are crazy and don't always notice when they walk into oncoming traffic, so I need to be on extra high alert. I'm not taking any time off this week.  But then I'm off Wednesday for New Year's, which is a nice break in the middle of the week.
