Should be a quiet evening, doing some cleaning, then pizza and a movie at home.  Tomorrow I'm volunteering at DD's middle school, the musical is almost here and they ask parents for help.  DD will be at rehearsal during that time and the younger two will just have to hang out bc they're not old enough to stay home alone.  ExH is allegedly picking the kids up around 3 for a visit.

Sunday is just mass, making a big pot of chili, and down time.
  • So cold still!  I have to fill up my car and I'm not looking forward to pumping gas but that should be better for my wallet and time if I can do it now vs. hitting a highway station.

Tomorrow we have a Girl Scout event that should take us from AM into mid afternoon and Chiquita has a retreat on Sunday.  It's time to take down the Christmas tree and assorted decorations so I think that's what Sunday has in store for us.  Side note: our town does Christmas tree collection this week and I *get* that for many the trees are down by now but The Epiphany was Monday!   So to the woods in the backyard ours goes!
  • Well we had a stressful moment where Grandpa went home and then we couldn't find him this morning. He has a tracker on his phone but where it is isn't making sense and he wasn't answering. My mom called his treatment center and luckily he is there so probably the towers are just having a really rough time triangulating.

I'm glad it's Friday. I feel tired. Luckily this week was not awful work wise and I had a moment to breathe in between patients which was really needed because I felt like an octopus with fire/family stuff. I've been so narrow focused on my Grandparent's area that I haven't really taken much time to look at the other fires and destruction and I did last night and I'm so sad. The Palisades are just...gone. So are entire communities in Pasadena and Altadena. That's what my Grandparents couldn't understand. We've never had an urban fire of this magnitude. They're used to wildfires that stay behind them in the mountains, a few border structures here and there, but this? It's like anything we've ever experienced and sadly it's going to be the new norm.

How is your uncle's family doing? @ei34

No set plans for the weekend here otherwise. Probably will go to my Grandparent's house if the evacuation order is lifted. It's still mandatory currently (didn't stop Grandpa). I'll have to be cautious because post COVID my lungs are very sensitive to fires and pollution. Luckily I have an inhaler now and I'll wear a mask if I go. For once in our city the air is clear because the wind is blowing in the opposite direction. Grandma is probably going to my Aunt's house, although my Aunt is closer to LA and I'm going to recheck the weather soon and if the air quality is bad, offer for her to come to my place.

In more positive news: I made some great nachos last night (I'm on a NY challenge to actually use stuff in the pantry) and I've worked out every day this week so far.

  • No plans this weekend.  I desperately need to do a deep clean on my apartment, but it probably won't happen this weekend either.  My arm is feeling better this morning, but we'll see how it goes throughout the day.  Wednesday and yesterday, it was painful by the end of the day.  I'll see by Monday if I need to go to the doctor.

Otherwise, SSDD, I suppose.  I've planned my movie bday party.  I rented enough time to watch 2 movies.  I always end up planning my birthday super early b/c it's something to get me through this dreary weather.  I know one movie I'm showing is Hundreds of Beavers and then I'm debating the 2nd movie.
  • oh my gosh @levioosa how scary. I'm glad everything has worked out ok so far even with all the hiccups.

IL's are coming over tomorrow morning and bringing donuts. I'm doing a quiche and fruit. Very basic. Hopefully they want to hang out most of the day, would be nice to see them in a low-key situation. G is part of a cool org for cancer/cancer-recovering kids that will often offer free tickets for area events/sports/museums that are donated and host random bowling/etc type days for families. We got tickets to a big10 mens bball game for Sunday and might try to see SIL while we're in the city. Hopefully they like it, but i think they'll be more excited about game snacks - we'll stay as long as they're interested!

I've been trying to focus on getting more sleep in 2025 and actually went to bed before 9 last night. Amazing how good i feel when i get adequate sleep - who knew?

  • I'm glad grandpa turned up, and treatment center is a good thing.

We got snow! I know it's nbd for most of you, but this is our first real snow since like 2018-19. We got about 4 inches and it's still coming down. I went out to walk around a bit this morning and it's so cool. We're going to go play some at lunch.

Nothing much else going on. A couple of friends are supposed to come over tomorrow to start planning our through-hike for this spring, but it might get moved to teams if they're not feeling the roads. Otherwise, everything is closed and cancelled here, so we're making a bunch of food and chilling on the couch.
  • A big project at work launched this week and so far, so good.  We were missed by the snow but did have a stretch of single digit temps with "feel like" temps of below zero.  It's much warmer today - mid 20s - a we have a few snow flurries.  Sunday we are in the path of some heavy snow.

This weekend I need to take down Christmas decor inside and out.  We will be watching NFL playoff games Sunday and Monday night.  I volunteer with confirmation at our church and we meet 5:30-7:30 Sunday night.  The Packers play the late afternoon game so I'll need to miss the last quarter.  Vikes play Monday night.

We have a couple of house projects coming up.  In 2 weeks, my brother is coming to put in a step through in our bathtub.  This will help DH not have to lift his feet so high to get in for a shower.  The insert is convertible so you can put a piece back in to use the tub.  Also adding a couple more handrails.

In February, he is building tote racks (4 high and 5 wide) in the garage and some additional shelving and storage for lawn tools.  Looking forward to organizing out there and eventually giving up our storage unit.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Hope everyone has a great weekend.

  • So glad they’re safe @levioosa. How scary. Of course you’re exhausted.

J is still sick. Got some steroids and hoping that helps soon. He’s having a tough time sleeping so we’re having a tough time sleeping.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Go Bills!
  • I hope J is better soon @charlotte989875

  • So glad you found Grandpa, @levioosa. That is so scary. Healing vibes to J @charlotte989875. DS1,DIL and DS2 arrived yesterday. We had a bit of snow - about 2" so their travel was a little slow. Temps are cold so we haven't had any melt from earlier in the week so now we probably have 10" on the ground. This is the most snow we've had in 3 years.

Tonight we are going to a wine tasting that I won at a fundraiser for our Y. We have a total of 9 people . I'm looking forward to doing that. Not sure what we are doing today. I'd like to have my boys go through some stuff in "their" rooms so I can get rid of it, but not sure that will happen. They will all leave tomorrow.
