Wedding Woes

Wednesday

Nothing much for today.  I'm already ready for the weekend though.  Arm is slowly getting better.  I think whatever it is in my rotator cuff, it must be minor.  All of the exercises she's given me are easy to do and don't cause any pain, but I'll keep doing them, b/c I do not want rotator cuff surgery at all.  I've seen those enough in my clients and just no thank you for myriad of reasons.

I tried to work on my new build last night and whew, my arm does hurt when trying to do that.  I think I'll only be able to do a page of the manual at a time and that might be pushing it.  But I can't just keep sitting around bored.  And I'm fighting off cravings, b/c my brain really wants to numb TF out b/c of all of this.  So I need distractions that are better than just TV.

    Healing vibes your way @VarunaTT!

Just had X-rays and waiting to see the ortho. Glad that I hired a baby sitter for the kids (schools are closed here in observance of Lunar New Year) bc it’s been a longer wait than I’ve had in a while and they’d be cagey by now. Would like to knock a few errands off my list later today.
  • Glad your arm is doing ok @VarunaTT

Exhausted again today and just generally anxious over everything. Work, government, existence....you know, minor things. H is pissing me off but it's hard to tell if it's real or if I just hate everyone this week. Trying to keep myself in check. I'm the only one here from my team today and the whole floor is quiet, so i need to get my one task done and hopefully will not be bothered by anyone.

We have 2 cancer fundraiser gala's coming up and i hate shopping for dresses. No store has great selection, or if they do the size selections are atrocious. I'm not quite plus size, but definitely at the higher end of normal sizing ranges, but even with measurements, fit is so dependent on material and cut. FWP for sure, but i'm finding it extra stressful this week.
  • I'm glad your arm is feeling better! @VarunaTT the blessing and curse of PT is keeping it up helps with old injuries and new injuries, it's just a time eater.

I hope the appointment goes well @ei34

@casadena what about Rent the Runway?

I am in a doom spiral at the moment. I watched Jim Acosta's farewell on CNN last night and it sent me into a panic. It felt so dystopian, so canary in the coal mine. I was up thinking all last night about exit plans and feeling helpless for everyone. I've decided I need to request all of my college transcripts and make copies of all of my licenses just in case. And then I saw my passport expires in 2028 and I was kicking myself for not just renewing it last year. Anyways, just another day on this hellish planet.

@charlotte989875 all the hugs to you!  I'm crossing my fingers as we progress through the winter but I remember when the kids were little and I felt like adulting had so much extra pressure because I was sleep deprived so my immune system sucked while hanging out with those cuddle monsters who had NO immunity and every winter was a sinus infection or bronchitis or random fevers or the dreaded norovirus. And you also are employed which makes it that much more fun to need to be "on" while feeling awful.

I hope you are able to sneak naps over the weekend.
  • I keep going back and forth on my passport.  If you google my real name, my association and leadership with atheist and queer organizations is all over the damn place.  I also don't want to leave my mother to live in whatever hell hole this ends up being.  I'm so worried about my trans friends, sometimes I can barely breathe.

Speaking of Jim Acosta, there is a new "paper" on Substack called The Contrarian which is being built by the former WaPo reporters who have left.  I'm going to be getting a subscription; at the same time I worry about things like this now, b/c am I going to get on a list somewhere?  I've never been so torn in my advocacy roles.

@Casadena I second RTR.  You can look through the reviews and they really are helpful re: body type and size.  If you order it delivered soon enough, you can also get a return/send back of a different size if you like the dress.  I've heard some rumblings of not great customer service anymore, but they've still served me well.

I have all of the same concerns. H told me the other day that he has been putting on Fox news and "other side" videos on youtube on mute while he does something else just to throw off the algorithm and make his digital footprint less "suspicious" in case things really go south.

Oh @VarunaTT, I had the rotator cuff issue 2 years ago too (I almost wrote last year but it was Summer of ‘23! I did do PT and got a cortisone shot.  It helped a lot but I’m still living with the pain.  It really flares up when I do the breaststroke when I try to swim. Which I haven’t attempted in a while.
My passport expires in 2028, but I’m in the dark on why that’s bad and I need to renew it sooner rather than later?
@cassadena, your body type sounds like mine and it’s SO hard to buy dresses!  I do like Calvin Klein at marshalls, ross, etc.  very good prices too!
Speaking of passports I booked Europe for the end of this year and another cruise for next year.  We got a great deal on both, the cruise comes with the drink package. Woohoo! Next year, I’m sailing through Valentine’s day weekend and I’m like “if i’m with someone romantically then, oh well! (Checks my record) nah, I’ll be fine”.

  • @CharmedPam We're afraid that we won't be able to renew passports b/c of this administration.
  • My passport renewal is in process now. We have a trip to France planned for next fall and mine expires next December. They've cashed the check so I'm hoping for a quick turn around.

My head is exploding. Was talking to my Trumper hairstylist today. Her SIL is an undocumented immigrant but he works, pays taxes and owns his own business - they won't deport him right? Ummm you voted for this mess and they could very well deport him. The press secretary said last night that undocumented immigrants (she didn't use that term) are criminals so they will be deported at some point. I feel sorry for my hairstylist's grand daughter who was born here (different father) and won't be deported but her mother has plans to stay with her husband if he is. What a shitshow.

It's Devour week in Indy so I'm going out to dinner with some friends tonight.
  • Yeah - after yesterday's shut off w/ Medicaid I tilted my head and wondered what MIL and FIL would have thought if this was as recently as 5 years ago and FIL's mom was alive and at the time on Medicaid.  They would have been OUTRAGED that she was going to be affected by the changes.
