’ve been friends with a couple of people who each individually need an exhausting amount of affirmation. Not only that, but they’re not asking for it like a close friend would (where I’d provide it unquestionably), but in the form of click-bait group texts: “Guess what I did last Friday? You won’t believe who I met.” In my three closest relationships, these kinds of affirmations are given and received, but when faced with casual acquaintances that pull me in deeper, all I want to say is, “Get some friends to talk about it.” How can I say that in a polite but firm way?
