Wedding Woes

Just another manic Monday

I woke up this morning to a text from the utility company.  They're warning to expect power outages on Wednesday, b/c they're messing with the power lines on the big construction behind my building.  The construction is exposing a creek that's been "underground" for....forever, TBH.  I'm not sure when they covered it up, but it would've been early 1900s.  I'm happy for the project, but already tired of living with it.  Anyway, I already have a doctor appointment on Wednesday, so I'm thinking about just taking the day off, rather than move to work or deal with unknown power outages while working.

My weekend was very good.  I read a lot, watched some new shows, and just basically relaxed.  Last week kicked my butt at work and I needed to restore.  I also finished, "Kevin Can F*** Himself'.  That show is in my top 5 of all time.  Just brilliant, in so many ways.  I finished Arcane too.  IDK, I didn't love this season as much as the first season.  It's also race week, but it's in Japan.  I haven't been able to watch a race live yet, b/c of the time differences.  My bonus also came in, so moving has officially started.  I'll go buy my boxes and start packing and taking things over, slowly.  I think I'm also going to make my movers reservation; May is a busy moving time.

Otherwise, everything is going well.  Oh, I finished Red Rising, a book a friend recommended.  I think it's technically YA, but it's really damn violent.  Excellent story though, very familiar, but well done (think Ender's Game, Divergent, Shades of Red, etc).  The friend who recommended it is sharing the 2nd book with me so I don't have to wait on the library or buy it.

  • Loving your books rec's lately @VarunaTT - my sister has been bugging me to read the House on the Cerulean Sea forever and I finally have a copy to start, then you recommend as well. Apparently it's a must and i'm excited!

Spring break was fun and felt long! We were at my parents for a few days, then did a little staycation nearby and the boys had fun putzing around the farm, getting muddy, and then swimming too. Made time to check out a couple local libraries and a free natural history museum on our alma mater campus. Overall a really nice week away from home. Decided to book a spring break vacation for next year as well and my parents and sister are going to come too. So we're headed to Siesta Key, FL in a year and i'm excited for the beach!

Of course, we get home and our bathtub faucet breaks. Our primary shower is also broken, so now i'm showering at work every morning until we can get a plumber out to replace. The plumber supply store we need to order some new things from for both bathrooms are only open on weekdays, so i'm trying to figure out time for that.

Otherwise catching up at work because i fully did not look at email for 9 days straight - hoping for a quiet day to get through that.

  • @Casadena I was speaking to my BFF yesterday, and he told me there's a sequel!!  It's called, Somewhere Beyond the Sea (which after you've read the first, you'll understand why it's a perfect title).  I've ordered it from the library already.
  • I couldn’t get into “Kevin can go F*** himself”. But maybe I should give it a second try? I finished Deli Boys this weekend and loved that.
Weekend was very quiet. Friday I had a blast at my friends house for game night and Saturday was my microblade. What I forgot to remember was you can’t wash your hair for 5 days!!! Eeek. Thankfully no one will see this grease pit tomorrow as I stay inside. It was a good weekend to do it, though.

  • @CharmedPam One of my good friends found it too triggering.  The first few episodes were hard to deal with, b/c I knew what Allison was feeling, way too much.  However, that passes pretty quickly.  I described it to one friend as a darker Ted Lasso meets It's Always Sunny in PA and Breaking Bad.  It also has one of the best finales I've ever seen, with the best ending line ever.  But there is a journey of breaking and healing as well as someone who absolutely refuses to heal and the consequences of it all.

Every single department was so on point for the show, I couldn't believe it.  The way the rules of sitcoms vs. rules of IRL were applied was absolutely brilliant in the writing.  The application of "sitcom lighting and set" vs. "IRL lighting and set" was stunning.  The acting totally kept pace and levels of excellence.  I told one friend that they did such a good job separating the sitcom from IRL, that I kept thinking, "They did such a good job finding an actor for the IRL version" and then had to keep reminding myself they were the same person.  Another character is starting to slip into the IRL and literally talks themselves out of it and you can see the physical changes in real time as it's happening.  Just absolutely wild and incredible.
  • BUSY day!

My work kind of got turned on its side as the long time sales rep I work with is leaving so my bandwidth is going to be occupied with working with replacements and possibly travel.

I'm game and getting my head on but it was a surprise to start the week and say to my hubby "hey I'm probably going to be flying out of town for a bit"

And tomorrow is the 7 day before my colonoscopy time.  So diet modification starts then with me having to change up my morning smoothie and limiting other things.

Weekend was nonstop.  Phew.  I'm so tired.
Irregular day at work - the students are off for Eid so we have a superintendent conference day. The day is dragging but my friends and I did pop over to Panera for lunch.
  • Oh @MNNEBride you must be so tired! Thinking of you all.
  • Long long day. Was planning to be at home but was asked to come in person for something. Thankfully I had washed my hair this morning! My job feels like putting out one fire while deciding which ones I can leave burning.

M went to youth fishing weekend with H and had a blast. Baby J had some mama and baby time. Tired but fun weekend for all of us!
  • We are in our second week in SC. Last week the weather was ok but a bit cool - I still beach walked and read outside. So far this week the weather hasn't been great but is suppose to improve today. We have two couples staying with us this week. We are all going into Charleston today. I'd rather just stay here and enjoy the beach and supposed sunshine. I did some major shopping yesterday buying some clothes I probably don't need but were cute. I may return one of the tops.

During conversation last night I discovered one of the couples voted for Trump. I almost lost it because they have been critical of everything he has been doing. I had a cocktail so had to really be careful of what I said. I just don't get people that voted for him when they knew the kind of person he is then complains about what is happening like they had no idea! I was texting with my best friend from college just so I could vent to someone without causing a scene with a person I'm spending the rest of the week with.

Hope your H does well with the OT @MNNEBride and that you can get some rest.
  • @MNNEBride, what a night for you! You must be exhausted. Hopefully the rest of your nights go better because he sounds like he really wants to be there. *hugs*

You just reminded me of some clothing luck I had in Charleston.  I'd seen a higher end looking thrift store when we were out for dinner one night, but it was already closed.  I knew we would go right past it again when we left for Savannah and would need to kill some time anyway during the 4-hour check-in/check-out gap.

I found a 100% cashmere dress for $20 there!  Fit perfectly and is so cute.  I should have bought a lottery ticket also, considering how rarely the clothing gods are that generous with both price and the right fit, lol.
