Today definitely feels like it should be Friday.  Pretty meeting heavy at work today, unfortunately, and busy later with kid stuff.
A bunch of students (and one of my sisters, a cousin, one of DDs friends) are on planes right now heading to fun vacation destinations, next week is spring break for local schools and flights have gotten so out of control that more and more families are just pulling their kids a few days early.  The roads this morning and the hallways now feel kind of empty.
  • We are on spring break next week too with no plans.  Making it spring break and holy week with a kid making her Confirmation kind of kills possible plans because she's tied up in church events.

Last night I was beat and crashed hard.  I thought I'd make it through the first episode of the new season of Righteous Gemstones and just 20 minutes in I told DH I had to have a conversation with my pillow.

Conversation with my pillow. Lol, I love it.
@ei34 that kinda makes sense for cost and crowds to pull kids out early. I’m probably not the best example,
given how stupid I am in my adult life, but my parents pulled us out of school from time to time to travel with them.
I didn’t get around to cleaning my skincare cabinet but I can tomorrow during “work”. I was up at 4:30. My sleep is whack. I already took gummies right before bed and an ambien at 1, and was still up at 4:30. That’s too early. I don’t have to get up till 7 on office days (8 on wfh ones). Maybe I need a 10mg dose now? I’m on 5mg. Anyway, i worked out from 4:30-5:30 and went back to bed for a bit over 1 hour for some good sleep. Whomever says workouts energize and revive you doesn’t have my body. They put me right back to sleep! Even outdoor walks make me sleepy.

  • @ei34 in one of the wealthy OC school districts near me, so many people pulled their kids to ski in other states after good snowfall that finally they added snow days to the calendar that they could call if they knew like 50% of their students would be gone anyways. That was when I was a teen; I wonder if they still do that. I always thought it was crazy (also income wise, could never relate lol).

I was homeschooled for a few years so my perspective is skewed but some of the most magical and growth induced learning was the days we skipped “traditional” structure and went to museums or aquariums, events, etc. I wish we still supported field trips the way we used to. Structured learning is so important but so is exploration and the arts and our poor schools are just struggling for the basics.

Not too much going on here. I had an extremely horrifying moment last night where I looked up the DoD website re:9/11 (rabbit hole situation, I don’t usually go looking for 9/11 stuff) and holy shit. It’s not just propaganda, it’s North Korean style propaganda. The first and second paragraph didn’t even match each other. And the first paragraph was grammatically so horrendous I had to read it twice to believe what I was seeing.

Otherwise I’m a little tired but here. Trying to decide on a workout for later but am feeling .0003% motivated to do it. It’s 90 degrees here in a heat wave and I’m not ready for summer yet.

Are you taking orders? I’ll take 20 degrees of that please and thanks.

  • I've seen a few people I know who either pull their kids for a full week for a vacation or who do it early.

I can see it for some especially with really strong students but it's just not something I'm comfortable doing.  Chiquita has missed school for a Girl Scout overnight but I call that a learning and enriching experience vs. The Mouse or an Aruba beach.

WIth DH just not feeling great I'm not sure that we have a vacation happening this year.   I'm more than OK for a week off for day trips especially given where we live.
  • @CharmedPam gladly. I’ll even split the difference at a minimum.

  • Calamity!  Last night unexpectedly turned busy with errands.

My H was doing laundry.  That room is next to the kitchen.  He and I were both in the living room, but then I went to the kitchen to get a drink.

As I walk into the kitchen, I see the washing machine is a few feet away from the wall and there is a GIANT puddle of water in both the laundry room and about 5' into our bedroom (on the other side of our laundry room).  Fortunately, none of these areas are carpeted so the only damage was having to clean up all that water.

Turns out the drain hose had pulled loose from the washer.  At least it was an easy fix!  But we needed to go to the Home Depot.

Weellll, since we were going to Home Depot anyway, I decided we would also get a couple of other errands done so I didn't have to do them on Friday.  Amazon picks-ups and returns at Whole Foods.  Then a trip to Costco because we were out of Coke and eggs.  Though of course, that somehow turned into a $290 trip, lol.  Because you know...Costco.

@MyNameIsNot, I know you were talking about getting a new tv.  Costco has a 58" one for under $300.  My H was pouting when we saw the display because we had just bought a new one in November that was around 50 or 52" for about the same price.

  • Oh no @short+sassy, that’s the pits. Thankfully no rugs were involved. And that $290 is exactly why I let my membership lapse lol

We actually bought the tv last week, also from Costco. But my H is ridiculous, so it's 85".

The new tv is prompting me to want to paint the room and refresh it a bit. We really haven't done anything in that room since we moved here 5 years ago. I feel like adding this enormous tv just draws my attention to the other stuff the room needs.

    Ridiculous or practical? Lol

My birthday was yesterday. I treated myself to a 90 minute massage. It was wonderful. We went out to dinner at my favorite Italian restaurant. I had cannoli cake for dessert - yum! Headed to Chicago tomorrow to celebrate H and GS3's birthdays. Will stay the week to be nanny since the real one is on vacation. So today is packing and also putting stuff together for my girls' trip the day after we return from Chicago.

ETA: I meant to post this on the Friday thread and I posted it on Saturday morning.
