Wedding Woes

Only Wednesday

Jeez.  This is one of those "is it really not Thursday yet?1" weeks.  I feel like I've lived three lives since Monday.  How's everyone else?

Re: Only Wednesday

  • I don't know what day it is.  Traveling for work and then coming home a day early has me all confused.

I'm heading to the office late this morning for a group picture so I am in dress clothes rather than my usual WFH mullet.  It's chilly but sunny and the sun always helps the mood.

I'm not even tired, just drained.  Work should be a bit more back to normal though today, and this evening isn't too crazy.
ExH FaceTimed the kids yesterday morning (before we left for school, so early) telling them they should all hang out and he was off Tues and Wed, asking if they were free - and when they said they had school he seemed miffed.  I followed up with a text offering him to take them out today around 4 or 4:30, and he declined, saying he was only free until 3 and lamenting that I just loved to keep them apart.  Um...I'm sorry they have school?  So obnoxious.
  • For me, being mentally or emotionally spent is harder to recover from than being physically exhausted. I hope you get some downtime soon!  I'm sorry your ExH is delusional and then blames you for keeping him from the kids.  Did he think it was spring break or something?

  • At that point is he honestly thinking that you're "keeping" the kids from him or is he so out of it that he's acting extra creative with his BS?

Ugh.  So the plot thickens and both of DH's suit pants were food.  I have a call now into a local store in our empty mall to see what is possible.  I am really sympathetic to his fatigue and feeling awful but I'm also so angry that this was preventable, that I asked him to do it and he didn't.

Yesterday I found out that while I Was out a direct report gave his notice Monday.  I have job security but I may either need to make a choice of taking a position that requires travel or downgrading my position as I will no longer have the same situation of people reporting to me.  I'm really on the fence about what to do and so much of it has to do with childcare and whether or not I think DH can step up if I'm out so frequently.  I had insomnia for hours in the middle of the night.
  • Ugh @ei34 and @banana468 what frustrating situations.

N got sent home with a fever yesterday and I'm home with him today after the two of us were up most of the night. Fever, chills/shaking, tummyache, etc. Seems to be feeling ok today but very crabby.

Golf was good last night! It was fun to play again and i had a good group of people that i mostly knew so that was nice. Have a couple things to finish for a meeting at 3, but wow I need a nap. 4ish non-consecutive hours of sleep on the kids floor is not sufficient.

We were all supposed to go to my parents tomorrow afternoon, but we're thinking I will take G and give N more time to recover. Then I'll take N for a solo weekend in a few weeks.
  • I'm in the same boat, just wiped already.

Yesterday at about 5:30, I was still working and H finished up and let the dog out. Typically we go out with her and sit on the deck or play ball with her, but he was distracted with something and just opened the door for her and went to the kitchen. 5 minutes later we heard wild fast barking and both ran outside. He got there ahead of me just in time to see a coyote tail running away. Apparently, it was very close to the house and got caught off guard by the dog, and they tangled. My girl got a bite wound on her hip and we ended up spending the rest of the night and the wee hours of the morning at the doggy ER. She's on the mend with a few stiches and some meds now, but it was a long night.

I'm not an emotional person, but the pet hospital is one of the most emotional places I've ever been. Those people must really see some shit, and so much of it is so heartbreaking.

Other than that, work is still just insane and I'm counting down the days until this one mini project wraps next week and we can go back to the normal level of wild.
  • Well, I'm okay.  Tuesday I lost power at around 9:30 am b/c of a massive storm that came through in about an hour.  There was at least one tornado that touched down a little more than 1/2 a mile from me.  I think there was another funnel that formed, but never touched down, about 4 miles away.  It's hard to tell from the photos, b/c it might also all be one tornado...it was ginormous, but seems to have been momentary.  The damage it did was massive, though.  No one has been killed and no reports of injuries, but the city power went down.  There were 50K out of 120K out.  Mutual aid was called in; the big problem was that the utilities large facility where they store the trucks and such was also damaged (the tornado was RIGHT THERE on them), so their response time was delayed.  I was lucky enough to get power back around 8 last night, but there's still 41K w/out.  Schools are canceled, b/c 25 buildings are still w/out power and they're still trying to assess damage.    There are so many trees uprooted, telephone poles just snapped, and lines down in a lot of places.  Something, we still can't figure out what, flew over my apartment building and into the parking lot next to it.  It looks like a shed roof or something, but it's so crumpled up, it just looks like Trash Heap from Fraggle Rock.

Also, I wish I could scream from the rooftops about how great my employer is.  They are not making me burn PTO for this.  I've never had an employer do that unless the full office closed.

I'm a little discombobulated at the office today, but working through it.  One of my friends still doesn't have power so he might come over to assuage his boredom.  Otherwise, SSDD.

Only Wednesday is right! Feels like this is dragging.
@ei34 that is ridic. He was shocked they had school? During school hours?
    @VarunaTT how terrifying!
@MyNameIsNot, also equally as terrifying! Glad she’s OK

SSDD for me. We went to Hunks last night. Our ticket was $20 for GA. When we walked in the dude at the door suggested we get VIP if we wanted to see anything.  Shamed us when we said no.
As it turns out, I was good on “seeing anything further”. Our whole group was disappointed at the dancing, songs and even men. And gosh some girls are THIRSTY!

  • I got home yesterday from Austin/Texas hill country. Not my favorite trip but I can now say I've been to Texas and don't have to go back.

Today I did some laundry and got a haircut. H and I decided at the last minute to go buy flowers. Hopefully I will get them planted within the next couple of days. Saturday we are having friends over for dinner so I need to get the house cleaned up. H tries to keep things neat while I am gone but I have standards for guests.

I too am confused about what day it is. I just told H it is Thursday oops!

Glad you are ok @VarunaTT. That is super scary. @ei34 your exH is definitely a piece of work. Good grief what does he expect - just take them out of school!
