My wife’s birthday rolled around last week. She asked me and the kids not to make a big deal of it this time, so we didn’t and treated it like any other day. Now she’s mad at us! I offered to take her out to any restaurant she wants for a party with all her friends and the rest of the family, but she says we’ve “ruined” it for the year. Where did we do wrong?

Did you do what she wanted, or did you do what you always do, and she was trying to minimize her expectations.  I mean hell, you can still SAY happy birthday, even when someone doesn't want a celebration.

She said she didn't want a big deal made of her birthday, not that she didn't want you to do anything for it at all. You could've at least gotten her a small gift and/or a cake. That still wouldn't have been a "big deal."

“Nothing big” would have been to take care of dinner for the night or go out as a family to a restaurant and have the kids make her homemade cards. You’re a fucking asshole and an idiot.

Jeez you’re a loser LW. “Not making a big deal of it” does not equal “do literally nothing”. A 200’ kardashian balloon arch is a no go but there weren’t birthday cards, a couple of gifts, maybe flowers, and a nice meal and cake? 

And more than ^ the written issue, what I’m really feeling rage-y about is the disgusting attempt at parental alienation. My (admittedly overly sensitive single mom) spidey senses went up when LW says “me and the kids” and “she’s mad at us”. Stop it loser she’s mad at YOU. The adult.  He’s attempting to turn the wife into the villain and himself into the victim but needs the poor, innocent kids as co-victims. I’d pay money on a bet that he told the kids “mom is mad at us”. Classic DARVO tactic and I think he needs to take a long walk off a short cliff /rant over.

@ei34 you summed it up so well.  The guy deliberately took what he was told to the laziest extreme and blamed the wife for his lack of effort making it seem like he's the victim. 

Even in the 'rolled around' verbiage.  Dude -it's the same day it is every f*cking year.
