Last day of June Monday

Everyone had a good weekend?
I had such a great time at my paranormal conference. I chickened out night 1 because I didn’t want to go to the investigation without knowing anyone there - but there’s a lot of solo people who go to these things, and I know I have to stop thinking that way. It’s weird because I am shy, but once I get into a conversation with someone I don’t always have to be.
Day two was great. The speakers were really engaging but they were all back to back, which I don’t have the attention span for. I skipped a few. They had vendors out in the hallway, but you can only shop for ghost equipment and mystical items for so long. The location wasn’t as great as the one I went to in April, which was in a downtown area and waking distance to everything. I’m already keeping my eye out for a September one. I can eat live breathe these things.

I’m glad you had a great time at the conference @charmedpam

Weekend was a mixed bag. We had the graduation party which overall was nice but pretty much everyone who wasn’t family flaked and didn’t show. Only one friend showed up and they left early when it didn’t seem like more people were coming. H was super in his feels about it which I totally get. Oh course we had way too much food since I had bought enough for more people but at least I was able to send my parents home with some food and we had leftovers. As far as a family event it was good but I know that isn’t what H had envisioned and it’s always hurtful when people flake last minute or no show. I was able to get him out of the funk a little at the end up the night but he’s still a little upset about it. And SIL B was being so incredibly selfish and I am just so over her. H was pretty ticked at her too.

Sunday we vegged all day because the party was still a lot. I’m dreading all of the cleaning later today. We finished the first season of the show Adults. It was okay. Had its moments but I can understand the critiques of it too. Unfortunately one of our boy cats somehow got up to a wreath on the wall, knocked it down and ate part of it. He’s been throwing up all day and night so we’re at the vets this morning. I’m kind of worried he has a bowel obstruction. The wreath was a fake lavender-ish plant and the “flowers” are basically barbed plastic. He threw up a piece but I’m worried there’s more he can’t get out because of the structure. So I’m sure this will be a super cheap day. Ugh.

Otherwise, I have therapy today and then I’m cleaning the house again. Already ready for the weekend where I plan on doing nothing for once. June was a beast.

  • Oh no @levioosa all the good thoughts he’s okay!

Weekend was good- felt super busy and exhausting but the boys had fun. I saw the Back to the Future musical Friday night then we didn’t Saturday morning and we had a friends 40th birthday party Saturday night. Yesterday we bummed around town; playgrounds, walks, and some creek time. The boys were dirty and tired and had so much fun!
  • Weekend was OK.

Saturday I took Chiquita shopping for last minute stuff she needed for camp and did dinner and a movie as a family.  I snapped late as I walked into her room and called her out on how I can't even get into her closet.  Words were exchanged, she yelled and we cooled down.

I've told DH I know I'm handling the things he can't right now but I'm getting tapped out.  I'm doing my best but it's a lot but it's also so not his priority.  I've always been the one who wants the house in nicer shape and it's not his bag.  I get it but it's a frustrating point of contention being married to a pack rat who is going through his own issues.

I dropped Chiquita off at camp yesterday and slowly unloaded my car realizing she's so scatterbrained and left stuff in it.  I love her counselor who promised to get items to her (Including her prescription glasses!) and then headed home to clean while DH took Chiquito to a birthday party.   THey returned as I was getting ready to vacuum and we had a quiet dinner and played family Trivial Pursuit which was fun.   I splurged and ordered ice cream for delivery as Jeni's did a collaboration with the band we were supposed to see last night but sold our tickets.  So instead we listened to the Saturday night concert and when the music was over we watched an episode of Andor while eating it.

The weekend was alright.  I'm an Amazon Preview Club member and I had a thing to watch that I LOVED and can't wait until y'all watch it b/c I know a few who would.  Gave it all the great reviews and made $80, so that was nice.  Yesterday I went to my buddy's house and watched the Grand Prix and then the last 4 episodes of The Pitt.  Buddy is also rewatching Breaking Bad, so watched one episode of that with him.

Otherwise, just more decluttering and getting things organized.  My office is pretty well finished.  Fixing a thing in my bedroom and then hopefully get that one finished.  Need to do some final touches in the garage and living room and I'll feel a lot better.  Then I'll decide on paint colors and be able to get my wall stuffs hung up.

I'm taking 2 days off next week, so I'll have a 5 day weekend.  I think I'm a bit burnt out at work, just b/c of all the changes in personal and professional hitting at the same time.  My BFF might come down to visit too, which would be lovely.

    Otherwise, SSDD.

Last few weeks have been a whirlwind. Lots of travel for work and personal. All good, just a LOT. I am gone most of next week and then overnight one night the week after, then hopefully nothing for at least a month. We spent the last few days at a lake house with H's family and it was not relaxing at all. They drive me nuts and i'm ready to be away from them for awhile. Nothing big or major, just incredibly irritating and chaotic when there is no need for that kind of energy. 12 people in a house for 3.5 days is just too much.

My parents are here watching the boys all week because they're daycare closes for a whole week. I totally get that teachers need a break, but it's super frustrating that they close for 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week and spring break, and 1 week for 4th of July.

Catching up on posts and work stuff that i've been out of the loop on! hope everyone had a nice weekend (and last couple weeks).
  • @levioosa, I’m sorry for that attendance. My friends haven’t hosted many parties the last few years and I think this is why.
I hope the vet bill wasn’t too too bad for you.
@banana468, is this sleep away camp or day camp?
@VarunaTT, enjoy the well deserved time off
@Casadena is day care closures a national thing? I just texted my friend a happy birthday text, and if she took it off, but she said she couldn’t, and had to save her time off because her daycare is closed next week too!

We had a fun day at the aquarium and just getting in from the town pool (their swim team practices began today).

Healing vibes your cat’s way @levioosa and I’d feel disappointed if I was your H too, people suck
Yay for a good conference @CharmedPam and for the upcoming long weekend @VarunaTT
Oof @Casadena on 12 ILs under one roof  - that’s definitely a trip and not a vacation! And thumbs down on daycare being closed. I never used daycare but definitely thought they were open year-round (exception of major holidays). A couple of my work friends whose littles are in daycare actually sometimes still send them in when schools are closed to have a day to get things done.

Edit- it’s posting weird so trying again

Well, we’re home with Squish to the tune of $800. I hope insurance covers some of it. That was only for an anti nausea med, fluids, X-rays and an exam. They offered to keep him overnight and do an ultrasound for an extra $1200. Jfc. So far he seems stable. We got asked if we wanted CPR if he codes and I’m gonna be honest, I have that discussion regularly for people but I was somehow surprised to get asked on a vet form. We also took Delilah in to another vet today for this weird skin thing she has going on and that was $250. 😭 But we got a $12 check in the mail this afternoon from the state comptroller for 2023 taxes so that offsets all of it. lol.

I didn't realized daycares closed either. We used an in home daycare when DD was little so that is a different situation. DD has a nanny and her contract she has so many days off a year but again, that is different. I just assumed a business daycare would have employees stagger vacations except for national holidays.

They started these closures last year and tbh had they always had them, we likely woudln't have started there. But we're too ingrained now and the kids do so well/only have a year left that we'll make due. It's extremely frustrating though even with willing help (my parents). I don't know what parents do who work full time and don't have help like that.

OOF!  Our daycare closed for Columbus day for staff training and that was a pain but a week off is rough if that's not when YOU want to be off.

Chiquita's sleeping overnight.  I scoop her on Thursday!  She does two more weeks there as well so we were trying to stock up for all the weeks she'll be gone since she's only getting 72 hours including a national holiday before we're back at it again.

Ughhh that’s annoying @Casadena but I totally get why you’re sticking with them at this point!

Huge shout out to all the parents who work year-round and have to deal with the dumpster fire of not being off when your kids are (parents aka moms who are the ones scrambling for alternate care)

I remember the additional frustration my mom had when her school district did not have the same vacation schedule as the neighboring town we lived in.  She taught in a major city and most of the educators didn't live in the city.  So when the cities and towns didn't coordinate their April vacation it made my brother and me park ourselves on Grandma's couch.  I learned a lot about Matlock and Perry Mason.

My grandma babysat my sister and I during the summer.

I WISH those were the shows she liked, lol.  But it was always game shows in the morning and then her soaps for the afternoon.  I liked the game shows, but I was too young for the soaps and found them boring.
