OMG do not call CPS

Dear Prudence,

My next-door neighbors have a 6-year-old daughter, “Maisey,” whom they let run around the neighborhood with her older siblings in nothing but a pair of underwear briefs. I not only think this is inappropriate, but also a danger, as I fear it will make her a prime target for child predators. I have spoken to the parents, but they shrug off my concerns, because according to them, “she’s never liked wearing clothes.” Is it time for a call to CPS?

Re: OMG do not call CPS

  • Really??  Because the kid runs around in her underwear?

I don't think it's a call to CPS.   It's weird and if she's not wearing a shirt it's odd, but also, we have an obsession with the female chest and I guarantee if it was Mason the boy the feeling would be different.  Let it go and don' raise a flag unless you see pervy people reacting.
  • OMG this is a wild overreaction. It’s a little odd, but she’s not being harmed.

And by the way- if you see someone paying undue attention to her, hanging around the neighborhood, sitting outside in a car- that’s what you call authorities for- the bad behavior not the kid.
  • Just like short skirts don't cause rape, kids in their underwear do not cause child predators.

This is not about protecting the kid anymore than the LW a while back was worried about a woman running in a sports bra. It's about being a prude and controlling what someone else wears.
