Wedding Woes

Don't clutch your pearls too hard

Dear Prudence,

Three months ago, my parents divorced after 34 years of marriage. My mother has since promptly gone man-crazy. She has a new guy in her life on a near-daily basis in my childhood home. What can I do to impress upon her that this is not how a respectable mother and grandmother is supposed to behave?

  • Let mom live!
  • I'm sure it's jarring to see that side of your mom, but LW you suck. Leave your mom alone and let her figure it out.
  • Some people really can't handle that older people still desire and have sex.  Get over it, LW.  She was held down by one man for 34 years, she's finding her groove.
  • I make a really big effort to normalize talking about sex with my older population. There is definitely a huge portion who are no longer active because they just aren't interested, or because of health issues, but the ones who are active are so embarrassed about it, even when they're having issues which could have solutions. Older adults have sex! (US) Society needs to get over their prudish hang-ups.

  • Good lord, she's been in a marriage for 34 years that's probably been dead for 33. She deserves to have a little fun.
  • There is a city in central FL called The Villages.  It has a population of about 120K people and the AVERAGE age of the residents is 74.

It always has one of the highest per capita rates for STDs in the country!
