Hoping for a smooth day.  We all survived the busy day, today should not be as tiring.  SSDD otherwise.
  • Thinking of any of you who are intimately affected by the shut down.

I vented angrily to DH yesterday about the latest w/ the military.  Among the fall out IMO is the lack of recourse for the remaining women who stay to have any avenue to pursue claims of sexual assault.

I am ashamed more and more of those I know who continue to support the people in charge.
  • I was trying to share something about the military meeting with a friend yesterday and realized that I don't know Pete Hogsweatbreath's real name b/c of all the made up names I see.  That was a nice laugh.  I really wonder what went on in the heads of all of those military brass.  I'm sure there are some supporters, I'm not that naive, but can you imagine that worthless POS low-functioning alcoholic never having served excrement speaking to those generals who have dedicated their lives to service and exactly what that dedication means?  And speaking like it was a TED talk?  I almost feel lucky that we don't have a military class, b/c if we did, I think the military coup would've happened in that room with 24,000 years of actual military/war/defense/history training.  I really think a loyalty oath was going to happen and somehow, someone got it pulled back b/c someone must have an ounce of education.

I woke up this morning, opened the curtains, and saw a beautiful sunrise.  It made me feel good.  I've started getting my morning routine back, sleeping well, and generally feeling the extreme situation depression lifting.  I'm not worried about my mother, she has enough money sat back to survive through the government shutdown.  IDK about her healthcare, but to put it bluntly: it's not my problem anymore.  She has enough money to pay out of pocket for awhile if she needs to.  I'm shaking my head, b/c this was the exact situation I was fearing and wanted to be able to help through.

Otherwise, SSDD.  Work is getting back to normal too and next week we shouldn't be shorthanded anymore.  It's a weird feeling to feel personally good while the world is on fire.

  • Work is going to be a nightmare today. It was rough yesterday too.

Otherwise, not too much else is happening here other than the fact that I feel sick thinking about what our democracy has become.

  • My 5 year old had his first lock down drill at school yesterday. Cried the whole way to work that this is the world we live in - that gun/other violence is so prevalent and normal that 5 YEAR OLDS have to be prepared for it. It's sick. H is gone for a couple days, work is busy today, and I'm taking Friday off to go shopping with my mom. Very excited about that.
  • I saw the sunrise this morning too @VarunaTT! Something about it just makes me feel a little more at peace.

Other than that, nothing much peaceful over here. Work is still a zoo. My fucking MIL is here this week for no reason. We're going out of town this weekend and the washing machine just shit the bed. So it's the chaos of trying to get things ready to travel during a busy work week, adding in a trip to a laundromat, and having to entertain MIL. I need it to be Friday already.

@MyNameIsNot can you get a laundry service?  Just drop it off and they wash/fold everything?  It might be worth it with **waves hands** all of that.

ETA:  I'm so sorry @Casadena.  I'm just so sorry, what a burden.
  • The government shitshow just has me nauseous. I feel so helpless because what can be really done short of a civil war?

I'm sorry @Casadena. DD's twins have had drills too. I seriously want everyone in my immediate family to move to another country where guns aren't the norm!
  • I'm sorry @Casadena.  The lockdown drills are hard.  When Chiquito was younger he asked a lot of curious questions about it too which the teacher tried to call out as disciplinary issues and...the kid was curious.

I hate that the world we live in means I need to make sure I kiss my kids before they leave for school because life is too precious but I can't helicopter them.
  • M had an evacuation drill yesterday and lockdown this Friday. But we already had a real secure lookout two weeks ago. I hate it all.

Work is an absolute nightmare. I don’t even know where to start. It’s one fire after another. And zero resources.

Times have changed :( we had tornado drills and jump out of a bus drills. Which I hated because those buses are TALL.

I had an endodontist appt this morning for a painful tooth. I swear I was refereed to him years ago for another root canal problem and didn’t pay a consult fee, but today I had to pay $80 for him to tap around my tooth, jab my gums, look at the xray my dentist did yesterday to tell me my tooth can’t be saved and I need it extracted with an implant. And I can’t even get in with the surgeon till the 13th. I cry. I looked it up and those are $3-$5 k, but I don’t know what my insurance policy covers. Insurance covers part of implants, right? Please say yes.
Edit( and I wanted to pick up lunch and my antibiotics at the same time but have to coordinate with my pharmacy and their lunch break is 12:30 to 1,  so I have to work around them too.

Ugh they’re the worst @Casadena.  Our first of the year was yesterday, even the HSers hate them.  My kids' first of the year is today, they get so anxious too, now that they know why they practice.  In K they thought they were playing hide and seek with the principal.  It sucks so much that this is a reality.

@CharmedPam off sorry about the tooth pain!! Healing vibes your way!

Obviously everyone's insurance is different and dental insurance is kind of a shitshow, but I think so. Last year H broke a tooth and had to get it extracted and replaced with an implant. I want to say our out of pocket was around 1500 with insurance picking up the difference.

Laundry service is a great idea, Varuna! I forgot that such a thing even existed! Now I have to see if I can find one nearby that will have my stuff by tomorrow afternoon when we leave. My bougie neighbors have drop off, but I doubt that would turnaround that quickly.
  • I'm so sorry @casadena. What a nightmare. Gun violence is literally in the top 5 reasons I keep waffling on kids. For a government that really wants us to pop out babies they're 4/5 reasons why I lean towards no.

  • @CharmedPam, every employer dental insurance plan I've ever had puts their max payout as $1,000/year (not including cleanings).  If your employer's is the same, I've heard of one dental insurance plan that doesn't have an annual max payout but I can't remember the name.  Last time I looked into it, it was $50/month and there was a 6-month wait to get any major work done.

I think implants are often covered under dental insurance, when it's related to a tooth that needs to come out.

@CharmedPam, the oral surgery portion of my implant was submitted to my medical insurance, and they paid out according to my plan's deductible and co-payments.
The crown portion was considered dental.  I have a reimbursement account rather than dental insurance, and put the dental portion toward that.  You might check with the oral surgeon's office, which will do the work.  On a related note, I needed to have a bone graft in the upper jaw where the tooth was.  They used some bovine (cow!) bone, and it was like little plastic pellets.  I was surprised at how long the entire process was - about 9 months - from start to finish.
