Wedding Woes

Tuesday

I went to a local festival on Saturday and it was a lot of fun.  It was free admission and they had good food and music.  Folgers has a processing plant here.  They had free coffee for people to enjoy at the festival and were also giving out goodie bags with beau coup different samples.  Better schwag than usual from a lot of vendors.  For food, I got "gumbo ramen".  I'd never heard of it before, so I had to try it!  It was basically ramen noodles, but with a gumbo broth.  They also loaded it down with shrimp, two kinds of sausage, and chicken.  Yummy!

Sunday/Monday were very disappointing days.  My new glucose emergency kit pens apparently have some ridiculous temp requirement of keeping them between 68-77 degrees.  I ordered a make-up fridge from Amazon that was supposed to have adjustable temperature control.  It didn't.  It can be hot or it can be cold, but it can't be in-between.  Apparently such a thing doesn't exist for any kind of affordable price.  I guess I'll do the best I can and hope it works if I need it.  Just to piss me off further, I can't return it to Whole Foods like I normally do for Amazon.  I had to print a UPS shipping label, re-package it, and drop it off somewhere that accepts UPS packages.

Monday, I found out I'm probably going to have to quit the gig job that I've been doing for 10+ years.  It's just become too much work for the pay involved.   I'm waiting to hear back from my scheduler regarding the latest change.  Then when I got off work, I spent 2.5 hours running around doing returns at three different places.  The UPS dropoff place I found that was thankfully near my house.  I will need to keep them in mind, plus the employee who helped me was extra friendly.  Then Whole Foods because I had other Amazon returns, and Walmart who is always a problem with returns.

Re: Tuesday

  • We had a fairly busy weekend with kid games.  Friday Chiquito had a baseball game that was from 6 until after 8 and Saturday Chiquita had a soccer game that ran nearly the same time.  It's starting to be cool out there making the night games ones that nearly require hats!

Sunday we had mass and I spent the afternoon tidying and nagging Chiquita to make major improvements to both her space and community space.  I could tell you all the sweatshirts she'd worn in the last week between what was on various couches and chairs and in her room.  It's making me crazy!!

The nor'easter blew through and now it's just a gray day with debris outside.
  • Oof, I feel so frazzled and unorganized today. I've never had a job where I get SO many emails daily. Some important, some FYI, some to deal with if ever there's time. I have lots of filters, etc. but still haven't figured out a great system to manage it.

Weekend was fun. Saturday we played in the morning, went to a park and out to lunch, another park, then had an early night with snacky dinner and a movie on the couch. Sunday we hung out in the morning then H took N to a bday party while G and i had some quality time at home. Yesterday the boys were both off so H and I took the day too. G had a quick bloodwork appt, then we went to the fancy donut shop, then to the zoo! Finally got to see the newly designed and reopened monkey/ape exhibit.
  • @banana468 the best things I've found (b/c IIRC Chiquita has an ADHD dx too) is to just put a laundry basket in the spot that most things are already collecting and/or is most convenient to her (rather than a hamper in the closet for instance) and then then mantra "don't put it down, put it away".  B/c it's the "putting it down and forgetting it" that is my issue.  I even have a little sign of that in the corner of my bathroom mirror; since habits are so hard to create, I need the constant reminder.  I wish I could explain, but I literally don't even see the mess, I just walk right past it.  Until it's overwhelming; then I can see it and then it's a big project to clean and boom! executive dysfunction.  I also really love using the Finch app.  IDK if it would work for her, but I keep a list of daily tasks (so I don't have to try and remember...which I don't...and then beat myself up for not remembering.  I remember one thing...sign into my Finch).  It's a fun mental health app that doesn't have any negative feedback (your finch doesn't ever tell you, "you didn't do this one"), you get clothes, trips, etc. for your finchie AND the goals/rewards don't change (as you get farther into your finchie journey, it doesn't take more points to achieve things).  It's not perfect, but it's the only app I've found that actually helps me.

Is it bad that I'm ready for Thanksgiving break already?  I just feel worn out lately.

I finished my Lego Halloween wreath, and it's impossibly adorable.  I have it on the inside of my door so I can enjoy it.  Very fun and unique build.  Now I have to finish rhinestoning a costume for a friend.  They bought the stones for me to do this.  I had to nix the design plan I had, b/c they bought small stones and it would take too many stones that I don't have and too much time.  I had to message them and say, Buy 16ss and 20ss, not 10ss and smaller, for next time.  I'm just doing a scatter pattern but it's still taking forever with such small stones.  Everything else is same old, same old.

Boo on the pens @short+sassy @banana468 the night games this time of year are so chilly! @CharmedPam yay for all of the fun plans coming up.  I know you love this season.

The long weekend was nice.  Saturday was a good mix of fall fun and family time, Hamilton on Sunday was awesome, the kids had a ball and added it to their list of Broadway shows they want to see again (it'll be a while guys, mom takes you once lol).  Sunday night and all day yesterday was a hardcore Nor'easter, we lost power but thankfully only for a little over an hour.  Was a nice day inside, cooked a big pot of chili and baked corn bread to go with it, along with cookies for the kids' snack for the week.

  • @VarunaTT - inside the door! Inside! Why haven’t I ever thought of that? I’d love a picture of it if you can
@ei34, I hear you on “you go once”. Very few shows have I seen more than that, but I have a handful. I love hottix and todaytix, but it’s also hard to please me because I’m such a seat snob. It’s great for my local theatre because most of those places don’t have bad views.

  • @VarunaTT we left a laundry basket in her room for days!  We did talk about the need to improve habits.  It's the function of taking the extra few steps to do things like hang up the hoodies and stay in that habit.

Her room is really tiny which is annoying.  I get it.  But we're not moving either so we have to work with the space that exist and maybe if she goes away to college she'll have tricks up her sleeve for small space living.
  • More bad news (sigh).  Things are looking rocky again at my workplace.  I'm related to the Procurement department, but no longer actively in it.  I just found out they are closing it at the end of the month.  There are three employees in it.  One of them was retiring at the end of the year, so not too bad for him.  The other two employees are being laid off.

My work has also been slow, so this does not bode well for me.  It was the retiring employee who told me.  He's been a friend for years.  He sang the "WKRP in Cincinnati" song as he was leaving my cube, lmao.  He knows I want to move there.  I replied, "You got that right."  I need to really boost my job hunting.

  • Weekend was good! Carved pumpkins, M had two birthday parties, and we just tried to spend a ton of time outside. J is sick and o caught whatever cold he has. He was coughing a ton last night so I didn’t sleep well. Rough start for a short week that already feels long!
  • Oh no @short+sassy, I hope it doesn’t affect your position :(
