It's been a rough allergy season but I woke up with a throat burning on another level.  I'm two green teas with honey in, and it is helping at least.

The kids have their Halloween dance tonight, they're really looking forward to it.  I'm toying with making a Costco run while they're there, bc if I rest on the couch with my book I might fall asleep lol.

The weekend isn't too busy, thankfully.  A very local trunk or treat tomorrow with some friends, Sunday morning selling Christmas wreaths outside of church with the Boy Scouts and we'll duck into our usual mass (the 9am). My youngest sister and her kids are coming over for a visit, her kids spent so much time with us this summer and said they missed Aunt Eileen's house which was sweet, so that'll be fun.  Figuring out what to make, I'd love to do my homemade broccoli cheddar soup (with a pound of buttered pasta for the little ones on the side ;) .  But I'm feeling a bit depleted so there will definitely be some rest time too.
  • I don't really have seasonal allergies but Chiquita has complained and started needing saline spray.

I'm seriously bummed about the course of the state of the nation and scrolled through photos I took when I chaperoned a GS trip to DC last year to see that I took photos of things that no longer exist.

Chiquito is headed to his 2nd overnight scout trip without a parent this weekend and Chiquita's soccer team lost in double OT and PKs.  We may have a quiet weekend with showing movies that are not suitable for the 11 yo and then Sunday morning I have book club and will return to a full house.
  • My H and I are going to Octoberfest at a local German club tomorrow.  We strategically chose this weekend because the main food tent has a different German food specialty for each weekend.  This weekend is roasted pork loin with a dark cherry sauce.  Yum!!!

There's a funny raffle.  The prize is a wheelbarrow full of beer, wine, and liquor.  The winner also gets to keep the wheelbarrow.

I actually did a mystery shop last night.  I can't remember the last time I did one!  I rarely even check my e-mails anymore for shops.  But this one has a $55 fee and was fairly close to my work.  It ended up being pretty fun.  It was a high-end jewelry store.  They are so friendly and treat you like royalty, when they think you're about to drop $15K on a gold and diamond necklace, lol.  Seriously though, the associate was personable and knowledgeable.  I enjoyed talking to her about jewelry and trying on beautiful pieces.  My story was I'd just gotten a promotion and was treating myself.  I wish that was true!

  • We are home from our trip to France. We arrived at DD's house (we flew out of O'Hare) on Wednesday and drove back to Indy yesterday. I'm getting all the laundry done. I almost forgot that I have a bone density test today. Luckily I checked my calendar this morning.

France was nice but this wasn't my favorite trip. We were constantly on the go with little down time. I think we are ready to go on trips without a group, though we do have one planned for Scotland next year. Our friends that went along (this was our seventh trip together) said this is their last. They are older than we are and are slowing down a lot. In addition, the husband has Parkinson's disease and it has progressed significantly. It is so sad watching someone who was so active slow down so much. Fortunately, we had no travel delays and we got through immigration and customs in record time at O'Hare. It was nice not being bombarded by all the news of the shit show our country has become. H watched news over there but we were on the go so much it was easy to disconnect. Now I'm back to being depressed about the state of everything!

DS2 is bringing the dog home today. He has an event with some friends this weekend so he will be home. I do miss the pup! The weekend will be cooking some white chicken chili and catching up with house stuff. Sunday will be church - Reformation Sunday for us Protestants!
  • We have a busy weekend on deck- 5k and hanging with SIL and cousins tomorrow morning, birthday dinner for my aunt in the evening. Tons of fun Halloween stuff in our town- we won’t make it to most but it’s super cute.

Not sure about Sunday yet but hopefully relaxing. Things have been so crazy lately I feel like we all need a day to rest and veg.
  • I landed at 3:30 yesterday, my friend picked me up, we went out for dinner and then to see Nate Bargatze. I saw his 2024 tour live as well and I think I laughed more on that one. But to be fair, I was really tired. His warm up, Greg Warren was a tad funnier. I’ve seen his fb reels before. Also, we saw a sign that said “parking $65 to the right. Parking $40 to the left”. We chose the $40. After you get into the lot, they let you know it’s $40 to be blocked in and $55 for easy out 🙄 I will say, it was super easy out. But I paid almost $100/ticket for some nose bleeds only to pay $55 for parking? Welcome to Chicago
Work is busy. I knew it would be. And I have to get my review done by tomorrow. I want it out of the way today though.

I’ll skip the pork loin, but put some of that sauce on some chicken breasts @“short+sassy" yum! I also wish I got a promotion that allowed me to drop 15k on some jewelry!
Bummer France wasn’t all it turned out to be @ILoveBeachMusic. Where in France? I need to look at my itinerary, i’ll be in some part of France next month!

I'm not always able to achieve it, but I try to keep Sundays my "stay home and veg" day.

We were in Provence (stayed in Aix en Provence). If it had been my only trip through this travel group, I probably would have thought it was great. However, they did a much better job on other trips. We did go to a truffle farm and learned all about truffles - and got to do tastings. We also played the French version of Bocce. That day was the most fun! FWP when I'm sad about my vacation. At least I didn't have to see the crap coming from the WH!
  • I'm very glad for the end of the week.  I had a very bad panic attack yesterday about the state of the nation.  Had to do my run and blasted RATM and Limp Bizkit to get the rage out.

Tomorrow I'm going to see Tron and Sunday have lunch with mom and it's race weekend.  Other than that, not too much planned beyond grocery shopping and other regular stuff.
