Blue Wave Tuesday

Or one can hope.  Wishing all a smooth day!

Re: Blue Wave Tuesday

  • Ugh! @ei34, forever playing the victim. I bet you, in his stories to whomever will listen to him, you’re the one somehow stopping him from seeing them.
Today is a relaxed wfh day. I’m seeing “regretting you” with some friends after work, but other than that, SSDD.

  • My H and I did a grocery store and Costco run last night.  They had long johns on sale and both my H and I bought some.   I liked the children's deal better.  It was a shirt and pants in one package for $7.  The adults was 2 shirts in one package for $10 and 2 pants in one package for another $10.  Hmmm.  I'm pretty small but also have hips and boobs that kids don't have.  Since Costco has such a generous return policy, I bought a kids extra large.  They fit fine.  Score!

I learned last night that the trick is long johns are not very warm by themselves but are good for insulation.  I'm wearing them today at work under my clothes and am better understanding their magic in my freezing cold office building.  Though at least the outside will be getting back to acceptable levels of warmth starting tomorrow.  Fall isn't over yet!  I was getting worried.

A couple major accolades for New Orleans recently.  We've never had a Michelin star restaurant, but they just updated their list and now we have three restaurants with at least one Michelin star.

UNESCO recently designated NOLA as a "Creative City" for music.

  • Oof @charlotte989875 that's rough, I'm sorry.  @short+sassy I'm also shocked that NOLA never had a Michelin starred restaurant before.  @ei34 he is so exhausting, you and the kids deserve better.

Work is just bananas.  We have one person who took a 2 week leave of absence and just...hasn't come back?  No one knows anything.  Her supervisor has also been out for at least 2 weeks and no one knows why, just that it was an emergency.  My counterpart has something going on.  She was gone all day for a doctor's appointment and on a meeting the next day, she sounded like she was drunk.  I'm swimming in work -- I just realized that I didn't even log on here yesterday just to check in b/c I worked ALL day, steadily and barely finished my task list.  I'm doing the same today but needed to take a breath.  I'm also having a feeling in my gut about the 2 new hires on the team that isn't great.

I'm headed back to school.  I have to have my paralegal certificate to change positions in the company.  I've always thought about just taking the test cold, but I'd rather not waste the money and not pass.  There's also legal writing on there and I haven't had to do that in decades, so I don't think I'd pass that part and that would bomb the test.  Additionally, I still have CA in the back of my mind, and I can get specialized certificates for CA that the company would pay me for and hire me on.  So, I've signed up for a course to help prepare you for the first level test.  My alma mater has it, so enrollment and all that jazz should be easy.  There are some really nice benefits to working for corporations.  Mine doesn't seem to be quite as soulless, so that's nice.

Otherwise, it's kinda SSDD in everything else.

  • Sending you good vibes @charlotte989875. That's really tough.

    Ugh, that's so annoying @ei34

I'm surprised about the Michelin star in NOLA too! When I think of great food destinations in the US NOLA is up there next to Vegas and New York for me.

Weekend was a blur of activity. I had Friday off but it didn't feel like it. So much running around. SIL and her H came over and we had a movie night. BIL was driving me a little bonkers but it's nothing new. Sunday we cleaned all day and then yesterday we picked up my Aunt and Uncle and had a nice day with them before dropping them off at the airport today. We wish they were here a little longer because we did have a lot of fun.

Otherwise, SSDD. My mom and dad are being a lot. It's pretty wearing on everyone. I'm just tired of all of the same complaints with no forward movement. Something has got to give with my dad too because I won't stand for abusive behaviors and he's starting to go in that direction. It's a really hard mix of obvious cognitive decompensation with just a lack of empathy for my mom as a caregiver. And my mom is just trauma dumping waaaay too much info on everyone. I get these are traumatic things that have happened and are happening, but some of these are inside/therapist thoughts and I shouldn't have to hear them nor should the family.

  • @charlotte989875, I'm sorry to hear about the layoffs!  I hope the folks being let go are able to find new employment quickly.

@VarunaTT, it sounds like a wise choice to go back to school for your paralegal certificate, then trying to independently study and take it cold.  Good luck and I hope everything goes smoothly with the classes and then the tests.

@levioosa, Now you need a break from the busy weekend!  I'm sorry to hear about how difficult your dad has become.

@banana468, best wishes for your DH's medical appointment.

Locals have been bitter for years that we've never had a Michelin star restaurant.  There are a number of conspiracy theories/accusations that the Michelin committee is "biased" and "political within the industry",  I don't know much about it and don't have an opinion.  Some of that might be true but I suspect it's mostly sour grapes.
