I am staying IN today. Lol. I’m loaded up with food and entertainment (well, wifi) and will probably be a day where I’m not bored to be holed up in my house. -8 (feels like -22 they say). Tomorrow I have a facial at 10 am and possible trivia at night, depending on temps and snow. As much as I HATE snow and all this cold, I’m glad I’m here for it and not away so I can keep an eye on the pipes and my house.
Stay safe and warm everyone!

Re: Freezing Cold Friday

  • Brrrrr - it was -24 when I woke up with -40 windchill.  I had to get out the "big" winter coat that goes from my ankles to my knees and has a big hood.  I only walk outside from the car to the shuttle and the shuttle to the building, so it wasn't unbearable, but I'm glad most of my walk is indoors.  We look forward to a high of -14 today.  We plan to hibernate tonight and tomorrow.  On Sunday, I'll go to church and our annual meeting.  In the evening, I'm teaching confirmation.

I'm onsite until noon today, and I'll work from home this afternoon.  Planning on making chicken enchiladas this weekend at some point so I need to stop at the store on the way home.

  • Was -12 on my way to work this morning, -25ish with wind! Definitely a "big coat" day, lol. G has an e-learning day and N had a PJ/bring a stuffy day to preschool - he's over the top excited to wear his too small fleece dino jammies! I dropped him and came in for a few meetings that i had to run and will take over G's school stuff when I go home at lunch.

In a great mood today and it's really nice :)
  • Oof, I can't even fathom -40. I think I'd cry, lol.

Not too much happening today. I got the new job, at the amount I asked for, and I accepted the offer. I'm in a little funk about it. The biggest thing is right now I'm happy at my current job...but that won't stay. They always pull me around and are so chaotic, it's only a matter of time before the other shoe drops. And I guess, even if the intent is to keep me where I'm at, the chaos has been so bad that now I'm living in a constant state of apprehension which isn't great either. I know I need to branch out and look for new opportunities. I just hope I'm making the right career move.

Otherwise, looking forward to not going anywhere this weekend except maybe the gym.

  • That’s great news @levioosa. Congrats! If you need to look later on, I don’t see why you shouldn’t but for now the bump in pay sounds nice!

  • Congrats @levioosa!!

Chilly here, too. More snow today then we have a little break tomorrow and more snow on Sunday/ Monday. J was looking better so we sent him back to school today and I’m WFH.

My office is about to announce a RTO for the remaining remote employees (which is me and my teams) and a 4-day in office for all hybrid. Except they haven’t announced it yet, but everyone basically knows so they’re bungling this so badly. They can’t “decide on messaging” which tells me you don’t actually have a good reason. Although my two-above (a senior executive) spoke up in a meeting and said basically “we can do this but Exec Leadership team better be doing it to and stop calling in from their vacations homes in the Cape” and nothing has made me feel better about working for her than that.
  • That is infuriating @charlotte989875. I'm sick of companies making people return to work only because they want to micromanage. If they can't have an immediate solid reason, then everyone knows it's a bunch of bullshit. And you also know it's total bullshit when the Executive Leadership is continuing to travel and vacation while "working from home."

I'm glad to hear you're okay @short+sassy I've been thinking about you. I know this was a really big change and I'm sending you good vibes.

    Congrats @levioosa
Thats so annoying @charlotte989875. My middle sis has bee hybrid since 2020, she adores her wfh days and how much easier they are. Especially if upper mgmt gets to still stay home.

Heaviest winter coats here too- we’re supposed to have significant snow fall Sunday into Monday.

The kids’ school musical is upon us - next Thurs thru Sat! Tomorrow is the final Saturday rehearsal, 8:30-3. They have a swim meet at 4 but i opted them out, just too much. We’ll go to the earliest mass on Sunday to beat the snow, and then hunker down.

ETA- vibes your way @short+sassy, you are missed. I know you’re in a period of transition, which is really hard!
  • The cold is awful but I knew it was coming when we came up here. The heat in the apartment isn't working super well so I'm bundled up in a cozy throw on the couch. We are keeping the blinds and curtains closed where possible. Unfortunately, the kitchen doesn't have any window coverings and the dining room curtains can't be closed all the way due to the plants the landlord has in the windows. Insulation in 1955 buildings just doesn't exist.

Had a good day looking at houses yesterday. Saw a neighborhood that would be a good contender. It is small and houses don't go on the market very frequently. We will see what is available if we plan to move - I'm sure the house we saw will be gone. There is also a townhouse in Arlington Heights we want to see. We didn't think we would want a townhouse but this is a big, corner one. It is two combined into one! We will probably go see it next week. H has a meeting on Zoom Monday so no house shopping then.

We are off to see the twins' basketball game this morning. The rest of the day will be spent inside staying as warm as possible. Stay warm and safe those of you in the path of the storm.

Arlington Heights is a great town.  If you are close to the "downtown" area, it has a really nice shopping/restaurant district.  It's in a bit of "flux" regarding The Bears and their decision, but eventually the racetrack property will revitalize.  You would be close to expressways for traveling out of state.
