Wedding Woes

This is a dumb custom to begin with

Dear Prudence,

I am a 65-year-old man and I have been great friends with a woman since sophomore year of high school. At age 20, I was invited to be a groomsman in her wedding. It was a great time. I flew home and went on with my life. MANY years later I found out that participants in weddings are supposed to pay for their attire. Never having done this before, I did not know this. After all this time I continue to be good friends with both of them and they have never said a word about it. Whenever I think of this, I feel bad. The next time I see them (they live in the next state over, about an 8-hour drive so it is not often). should I apologize and offer to pay them back? Or, after all of this time, should I not bring it up? Thank you for your insight.
